Comics need more Pandex! At Newsarama, an announcement is made that a couple of upcoming Teen Titans issues will be written by Gail Simone and illustrated by... Rob Liefeld. Now, for those of you who aren't intimately familiar with comic authors, Rob Liefeld is something of a controversial choice, mainly due to his tenuous grasp of human anatomy. (For examples, his webpage.) Wank explodes on the discussion thread. Now I can't complete my collection! As stated elsewhere, I have all of the new Teen Titans run but will be forced to skip these two issues due to Rob Liefeld being the artist. Chicks with dicks. Is it me, or does Cassie look like she has a bigger package than the guys? Someone wonders what the big deal is. I don't quite understand the hatred here. I'm looking at the pictures and other than Cyborg looking like a bodybuilder (and frankly, I often wonder why superheroes don't look like bodybuilders more often since that is what you would need to be to be in the superhero business) I see no real problems. Can someone specifically point out what is wrong here? Simply saying "wrong anatomy" is not enough. I want it pointed out. Someone explains, complete with illustrations. (Page 5, scroll about halfway.) Sample: Figure I: #10 - Here we have an example of one of Liefeld's trademarks: Invented muscles. The back of the upper arm, like Cyborg's here, has two muscles that would be visible. Not upwards of ten. He's being published, so he must be a good artist. I know I'm in the minority but I have always liked Liefelds work. I know people think his characters are not proportioned correctly and people could never get into the positions that he puts them in, but this is supposed to be fantasy. When was the last time any of you guys had your comic book art published? Hate is trendy! What I do see here is a lot of zombies repeating something they heard or read in an effort to look smarter. Sure, there are people who have real opinions and support them with arguments, but the others just sound like they hate Liefeld because is the trendy thing to do Muscles and boobs make you cool. The muscles and the boobs look cool and why would someone want a wimpy rendition of Robin or Kid Flash? I don't know about you guys but I don't like characters who look like some of the kids I used to beat up in high school. Comics aren't supposed to be realistic, anyway. I'll pay YOU money if you can find me any human who actually dresses up in a costume to fight crime, lives in a giant "T" tower, and would choose the super heroe name "Robin" to scare the crap out of bad guys. Oh, wait these are just comic book characters......duh! I'm starting to sound like one of these morons in here who can't stop complaining. Seriously, you guys need to get over it an quit being so jealous and stop nit picking. Perspective. Remember, guys, there's a thin-line between obsessive hatred and obsessive geek-outs. Flowcharts and pictures? I think we're looking at geek-outs. I hate you all, but am far to cultured to just use one sentence to say so. Robs drawing comics and I ain't. His work is energetic, dynamic and fun. Furthermore, he seems like a really cool guy so I don't understand where all this misdirected rancor is coming from. I used post here all the time but not so much anymore and its all due to the high level of jerks who think everyone wants to hear their hateful b.s.. I've had enough of seeing this insane amount of hate directed at creators who issue press releases with lots of enthusiasm and excitement for their work. Case in point J.Scott Campbell. THe man comes on to these forums and has to defend himself from one attack after another from vicious insults. I mean damn, he was so enthusiastic about his series and it really pissed me off to see so much hatred directed at him. The guy is an awesome creator and it baffles my mind that he even took the time out of his drawing schedule to even reply as much as he did and defend himself. If anything people should be happy that we even get updates like this about creators but with this continuing hatred I seriously doubt many of them will choose to isue press releases here at Newsarama anymore. Whats the point if all you're going to get are some insanely psychotic and hateful replies? Seriously people, get a grip on yourselves. I also don't understand why people keeping beating a dead horse and trashing Rob Liefeld at every turn. If you don't like his art, move on. If you do, its great to be you right now. I mean he inspired me to pick up a pencil as a kid, how can I hate someone for that?-The answer is I can't and won't. He inspired me to draw, him and the rest of the Image guys. They all rule in my book. Crotches and feet and an insult to small-breasted women. 2nd Never in a MILLION years would I be so desperate, pathetic, and lame that I would think of looking at comic book characters' crotches and feet to evaluate an artists job. I mean c'mon dude, you can't be serious can you? You've resorted to complaining about someones crotch and their feet. So Wonder Girl has Mooseknuckle, so what? As far as feet go, Liefeld's drawing of feet look like anyone else's drawing of feet that I've looked at. I guess if I learn how to draw feet real good I'll become a successful comic book artist. 3rd Plenty of people complain about Wonder Girl and her big tits, I love it when Rob Liefeld draws because he always draws big tits! I think Joe Mad, Hughes, and Cho took a page from Liefeld. And is it just me or has anyone looked at Wonder Girl and thought that she looks good but there's just something about her that she can be smoking hot, like if she has the potential to look so much better but no one has been able to bring that about her? Well the man to do that is finally here and his name is Rob Liefeld. Who ever takes after Liefeld is gonna have some big shoes to fill in keeping Wonder Girl looking as good as he's made her. Believe it or not, it all degenerates from there. Update: Liefeld responds! So do his fans! |
