Oh for the love of...

So Jason Mraz's new album is due in mid-July, and everyone at [info]jasonmraz is frothing at the mouth for new music. There are bootlegs and such, but nothing matches the real studio tracks, right?

Well, apparently the Mraz team has requested that people ignore any leaked tracks they might find and wait for the actual release (because, you know, it'd work so well if parents showed their kids where they hid the presents and then said 'but I know you won't peek, you good kids, you!), so it appears that we'll only be able to hear 'Wordplay' when it hits the radio.

[info]mandalony offers up several yousendit files of the song, and the comm goes totally apeshit with gratitude. [info]jscoutii25 is not so impressed, however, and starts a bit of a bickerfight about Jason's wishes. We're all clairvoyant here, didn't you know?

I didn't think Mraz fans could possibly wank more than this, but there's a page two! Featuring Captain Reiteration, 'I'm glad you people listen to reason so well, OMG I'M THE BEST FAN I DIDN'T DOWNLOAD IT NYAH, and the beginnings of the same argument all over again.

[info]mandalony has also made a screw y'all second post that should be worth watching for bonus wank.

Hell, I downloaded the damn song - and I consider myself to be 'a true fan' - but I've somehow managed keep myself from driving up in the STFU catering van. Perhaps that took up all of the superhuman self-control these other brave souls seem to exhibit.

EDIT: A bit of random funny - A rather cryptic apology is also offered, and no one has any idea what's going on. You may not go blind from too much wanking, but it appears that memory loss could be a serious risk.

EDIT THE SECOND: Good lord, two more posts about it! Because everyone knows that the best way to end the drama is to keep posting about it.

I vaguely remember, in the halcyon days before the advent of the intarweb, taping shit off the radio and then letting all my friends listen to it or, even worse, making them a copy of the tape.

Then, almost without fail, we'd buy THE ACTUAL RECORD WHEN IT CAME OUT (provided it wasn't some impossible-to-find import).

We didn't get arrested or anything!

Neato, huh?

Seriously. It's like saying "oh noes, we can't make a teaser trailer for this movie, that might satisfy people enough that they don't want to see the movie itself!"

Bzuh? I heard Wordplay, I loved it, now I'm twice as determined to get the album. And it sure as hell wouldn't have played on the radio here, where we basically have three options: bubblegum pop, classic rock or country.

I think someone needs to remind the anti-download preachers that the only bad publicity is no publicity. People will be much more excited about your album if they can get a few sneak peeks into what it's all about.

Oh, word. I remember my mother being horrified when I went out and bought a double-deck tape player, because that meant I would shortly fall into the fast, dangerous world of prostitution, drug addiction, and tape pirating.

And for all the noise that the industry has been making over illegal copies probably since Edison first whined about kids copying the grooves from his wax cylinders onto their candles at home, I've never actually met anyone who cared if anyone else copied music.

It's funny that the people complaining about the single being leaked (a DAY before it officially hits radio stations, no less) are doing it on behalf of an artist who permits taping at this shows and has 200+ concerts available at archive.org. When Jason asked his fans not to pass around the album if they get hold of promo copies before it's released, he was talking about the ALBUM, not the first single. He even made a crack suggesting fans should a CD from live versions of all the album tracks that he has previewed on his spring tour. He just doesn't want the entire album to be leaked before it's released, but these "defenders" of Jason's music don't get it and are dumbasses. *headdesk*

"Wordplay" is awesome. =D

Thank you for saying what I was going to say so I don't have to type it up. This is so dumb, because it's not like those of us who got ahold of Wordplay (which is amazing beyond words) aren't going to buy the album. God forbid this diehard Mraz fanatic didn't want to have to wait to hear it until she and her best friend harassed local radio into playing it. *rolls eyes*

Ah, Mraz wank...so beautiful to see him here on f_w.

He had a song called The Remedy. It namedchecked Dangerous Liaisons. You know, I've heard it a lot, but I'm fucked if I can remember the tune. The chorus goes Aiiiiiii won't worry my life away, oh., and he half-raps, half-sings the verses, and one of them opens with something like 'Heard fireworks on the fourth of July....' Fuck, you can tell I'm not a hardcore fan.

The point is, you've probably heard it. It was a big hit about a year, year and a half ago. Think John Mayer, back before it was obvious that Johnny Boy is just one giant ball of suck. Mayer on crystal meth might be a good way to think about it. Though Marz always reminded me of Edward Norton as Smoochy in Death to Smoochy, actually, but that's probably just me.

Go here and here and start downloading. "Wordplay" isn't available but lots of other stuff is. Avoid the studio recordings, which are good but not where Jason shines, and watch/listen to the live stuff. Also, read his journal on the first link. His most recent entry is kinda wanky and drama queeny, but also very funny, especially the accompanying photo.

omg, the same thing just happened in the Gackt community earlier this week and I debated posting it on here.

Basically his single Black Stone got leaked a few days early before it's official release. It had basically been up on bittorrent and had made been posted numerous times at every file sharing jrock/pop community on LJ.

But someone made the mistake of posting it the day before it came out on the Dears community (the main LJ comm for Gackt) and people freaked out cause it was early.

Then another third freaked out cause "you should buy it, not download it!" debate started

The highlight was the person who admited having the single already (before the download was posted) but going on about how no one should download/listen to it before it was released. It baffled the mind.

Selfrighteous fans are stupid.

Yeah, well, I can even understand downloading that, as his lastest album was this "love letter to fans" filled with ass love ballads where he sounded like he was going through puberty all over again. I'd download that too, to make sure he still wasn't on whatever it was that made me think that this style of music was the best idea EVER.

(I just cheated and ripped my friend's newly bought copy OMG I'M GOING TO BE KILLED BY THE FANGIRLS).
