AMVs Bring All the Insecurity!Wank to the Yard
Much like fanfic authors, only without the pairing wars. Brakus, the main man of this old wank, is at it again. Though this time, he trades AWA for Anime Boston.

But it doesn't get truly wanktastic until he whines to the AMV LJ Comm about it. And gets eaten alive.

Enjoy!

P.S. - I admit to dipping my toe in it, but I don't think it was enough to warrant a spot at [info]i_wank. If you all disagree, I'll move it.

ETA: LJ COMM POST BAHLEETED! Anyone have a screencap for posterity?

I wonder what his reaction to a rejection slip from a publishing house would be--most of those places take only a tiny percentage of what they get in submissions.

What a whiner.

For someone who's such "a whiner" I only see one post of his, and he hasn't bothered to reply to any of the bullies that wrote back.

One does not always need multiple posts to be a whiner. One is often sufficient.

But, since you mention it--he got rejected, bitched on the non-LJ message board, then took it to LJ, then to his personal journal. That's more than "only one post," unless I'm mistaken.

*kicks animemusicvideos.org* Why why why aren't you working? I have a vid to upload, dammit!

You know, it seems like every large-scale AMV contest spawns a whiny thread like this, assuming the people running the contest in the first place didn't make some dire mistake in encoding and/or presenting the vids. *cough*AX2002*cough*

That much said, the fact that vidders will eat their own kind is largely the reason I stay away from the AMV.org forums. Perhaps if this guy applied the time spent whining to learning how to better create (and from the sound of the discussion, encode), he might have a fighting chance.

Then again, the AMV Conspiracy will probably keep him from getting his vids from making finals at every contest. Because you know those judges go all out just to screw over the newbies. They should just hand out lube at the door to everyone seated in the AMV creator section of the audience.

Maybe you noticed that the guy only made the one post and didn't reply to anybody else who ripped him or ate him alive. I think that more than anything shows that he himself isn't propogating the wank any further, just the other folks who just seem to disagree or have a bone to pick with him -- or just grudge wank from the higher-profile creators.

I also understand that Brakus submitted everything after having tested his entries for playability. If something screwed up there, then the blame for screwing up his videos lies with the people who put together the contest, not with the creator himself.

I gotta give ol' Brakus credit for not replying to these bullies, though. Shows a lot more maturity than either the other people there, or some of you here for that matter.

Y'know, Brakus, if you're going to create a sockpuppet, the least you could do is not provide an e-mail address with the same username/domain as the website on your Org profile.

If the contest screwed up, their bad. But it seems your video is the only one I've heard technical problems about. If it was the contest's fault, I highly doubt you would be the only one affected.

AMV judges are not conspiring to shut out everyone who doesn't use After Effects (hell, I won at AWA Pro, and I use nothing but good ol' transparency). People who don't use effects don't work harder than people who do. If you're so insecure about yourself that you need to throw a tantrum when you lose (repeatedly, I might add), then please, take your toys and go home. This playground is for big kids.

P.S. -- Deleting your wanky post because no one gave you sympathy, then trolling around F_W with an obvious sockpuppet to defend yourself doesn't make you any less wanky. In fact, it makes you more mockable.

Eediot non-vidder question: Why doesn't everyone use something like Quicktime, instead of being ded of codes? Is the software too hard? Do PCs have trouble with Quicktime? Are there problems anyway I'm not aware of? I'm so sick of downloading things I can't, you know, watch.

You can't watch .MPG? A lot of editors use that one specifically because it's universal.

Can't speak for the whole AMV community, but the reason I don't use Quicktime is because it's not as tweakable as .MPG, or .AVI codecs like DivX or XviD. Those codecs offer a compression-quality ratio that Quicktime simply doesn't have. Plus, .MPG and .AVI don't require a completely different player to view.

[/geekiness]

I meant .mpg, sorry! (I can play those with Quicktime. Can't tell I don't vid, huh? XD) It's .avi files that kill me.

Ahhh, I getcha. I don't really use .AVI codecs for that reason, actually; I don't want to drive people crazy who don't have the right codec, and .MPG suits my purposes just fine. Though having DivX or XviD usually solves that problem, since those are the two most often used (for both AMVs and fansubs, I might add).

What I don't get are the ones who use DivX, XviD, or .MPG to edit with, then complain that Premiere is constantly crashing on them. It makes my head hurt x_x

Yeah. I've had a couple of different DivX programs (mac user) and I keep having problems. I'm afraid my hard drive's just too full to deal and that's the problem.

I don't, and Premiere constantly crashes on me. So, I figure in Adobe words, "Premiere" means "Wehatehumanityhaha".

But if you can tell me how to keep Premiere from crashing all the @#$!ing time, I'd be real thankful. (and much less homicidal) <3

Sorry, my sarcasm doesn't come through too well from the other end of a keyboard. I know judges aren't out to screw newbies -- I've had my vids played at cons as well (and have even won a few awards) -- but it seems like every con (except maybe Yaoi-Con) I've entered and had my vids played, there's thread spawned about how the judges are on crack/playing favorites/out to get the newbies. My husband won Audience Favorite in his first AMV contest, so I know it's not true; but the vidding community can be vicious, and Brakus unfortunately only serves to confirm my experiences.

(If you want to see some true viciousness, check out the old Fanime 2K4 AMV Contest thread over on animemusicvideos.org. I'm hoping the discussion thread for this year's contest -- which I just attended over the weekend -- is more level-headed. I can't see how it could be worse.)

Though that much said -- congratulations on your winning entry! ^_^
