icon_crack, an elite fandom icontest community. (From the userinfo- "We're not elitest bitches, we're just trying to create something that people can enjoy and strive towards.")

She is rejected because her icons are [paraphrasing here]"all the same, too much brushwork, not sharp enough and too much text."

Skippy does not take this well. Despite stating, "I'm not arguing with your decision," she wanks long and hard. Much tl;dr from both sides.

Some people are so pathetic. All that drama at icon_crack has just pissed me off. Its not the person so much, just others getting involved. And saying that we only let our friends in! Thats bullshit cuz I've had the other mods saying no to people that I really like and me too. Its not a popularity thing, its a top notch icon thing. I think its made Krissie not wanna put constructive critism now too which is wrong because personally I find it really helpful. Ug its just doing my head in. How we can have so many mature responses a few wankers ruin it for everyone.

Eh. Aside from the tl;dr factor and the fact that all this argument is over an "elite challenge community" for icons which... whatever... it's not that wanky. The long-winded person who was rejected is pretty reasonable, if interminable. She seemed mostly peeved that they told her she needed more practice when she'd had a lot of experience, and that they criticized her for not using techniques that she was actually using.

yeah, they were definitely wankier in this instance--not quite to the battle-of-wits-with-the-unarmed degree, but approaching it. she seemed to know how to handle herself in a debate while they didn't quite realise they were having one.

but i ponder whether it isn't inherently wanky to argue with community mods when they give a decision in this kind of well-defined situation. it's not like when a mod goes "you're trolling" and she was just defending herself as not-a-troll. she submitted her artwork to be reviewed by a panel and then got offended at the opinions and started Implying Things about the qualifications of the judges. i just can't imagine a situation in which her claim that she was just calmly rebutting wasn't disingenuous.

There is wank here, but it's pretty small, and it comes from the community owners, not the applicant. The applicant was very measured and mature in her replies -- which, as she notes, the community does not say they won't accept. The owners were the ones who became insulting and condescending at times.

Mostly it seems like a pretty mature discussion about a difference of opinion, with a couple of wanky moments tossed in for flavor. Eh.

i think she was doing a bit of deliberately missing the point. rather than consider any of what they said as even potentially valid critique, she seized on their assumption that she didn't know how to use photoshop and presented her experience with technique as support for her stylistic choices.

she's practiced at making herself look logical and mature in a way that the mods aren't, and she uses that to camouflage a lot of condescending attitude. her argument seems sorta like the icon-maker's equivalent of "i have a master's degree in english so you can't criticize my fic", though in one of its least wanky incarnations to date.

	Wow, I must have no taste, because I didn't think those icons were that bad, I liked them better then what some of the people who said "no" were using. But this is why I can never be cool, even on the internet. I don't understand most elite comms (even though I belong to one, but it isn't icon related). What is considered "elite" anyways?
