Mostly Harmless HGTTG Wank
Nothing major, but IMDB has a wanky Hitchhiker's Guide thread, which I present here for your reading pleasure.
The Caucasians' Guide To Colour"> in which people bitch about Ford Prefect being black, and the other posters being racist.
protocol africa begins : In my view, there was never any doubt Mos Def would muck-up this character.
After seeing a valid turn in Something The Lord Made, HG2G was very fortunate in receiving his services.
However, in-line with the majority of cauasian society's perception, his exterior facing unfairly warranted a floodgate of reproach.
And to think, this brand of thinking towards a sci-fic film-filled with tons of alien beings and distant worlds-yet skin color was still an issue.

thank you, i hate mos def for the following reasons;
the characters of arthur and ford, in the books, intentionally are dull, malaise stricken pasty white brits. he's saying something about himself (adams) and the british populace as a whole. it's easy for ford to blend in as one of these lifeless, do nothing, post wwii era, bland white guys. although that's my inference im sure plenty of folks share it. i won't argue the point if you want to disagree, go stick your head in a bloated hollywood mockery!
"Mos Diggity dog", a name, sillier then Zaphod Beeblebrox, only he's serious, turned one of the greatest characters in literature, again my opinion, and allowed the Diznee corporation to co-opt him into a political / pc marketing tool ala Carl Rove. hey let's hope they can use that clout to further their corporate goals shall we???? Douglas would love that!!!! oh wait no, he climb MOUNT kilimanjaro TO STOP CORPORATE RAPE OF RAINFORESTS AND ENDANGERED SPECIES, A CRIME, the former, THE DIZNEE CORPORATION IS MOST CERTAINLY GUILTY OF.

4. my final statement to the insane go!! go!!! yea, hollywood movie!!! crowd is this; from all that I know of the author of this work, the novelization format of the story, I remember one paticular thing which is what attracted me to the work initially, and everyone else who's ever read anything by the man and that was how much douglas gave ridiculous detail, anything funny, relevant or necessary was expressed in his writing, that's the essence of it, if ford was black he might have mentioned it, it would have been a distinguishing detail, something to differentiate Arthur and he, but no he didn't do that. did he? But he did mention when Ford turned into a,........ A PENGUIN. You can think what you want, there's room for any concept if you want it bad enough I guess. Good luck to you.

areosmith777, however, has more important stuff to complain about: I wasn't thrilled w/ his performance, but I attribute that more to writing than I do to Mos Def in particular. I just felt like they didn't give him enough screen time to really draw out the character. I mean, they totally glossed over the towel, which is one of the most central parts of the book and his character in particular.
Oh well, guess that's it for now. (Though you can always check out this long and incredibly detailed thread where someone insists that Trillian wasn't British in the books.) So long and thanks for all the wank.
