On [info]0kingdom_hearts, user [info]brw_0074 posts several questions in one day which are deemed by the members to be stupid. Flamewars ensue.

Question one: Why did they change Aries to Arith?

Question two: Who should hook up with Cloud?

Question three: Are they going to keep the theme song?

Mind you, the OP's grammar is much worse than mine.

Finally he agrees to save all his questions for one post per day. No word from him since; maybe he's been scared off.

Since when did Aerith = Aries? (And conversely Aerith = Aeris, but I digress.)

Of course, there's the better question of why so many people are attached to such a bland character, but that's a seperate wank. oO

Back when FF7 was made, dubbing was really bad. A lot of the names were changed around

Reno = Leno
Elena = Yrene
Rude = Ludo (I could be wrong with this one)
Aeris = Aerith

So I think it was KH trying to be more on par with the original concept. God I'm a geek.

I dig Leno and Yrena and use Aerith myself but Ludo? Sounds rather stupid.

Er no, I think it's probably got to do with some Japanese katakana having no set Roman representative because there are so many Romaji set thingies.

Using the most common Romaji set that I can't remember the name of:
"re-no"
"e-re-na"
"ru-do"
"e-ri-su"
would be how one would translate, but the transliteration can take liberties with spelling. They just used what looked good, probably.

Translation issues. I believe there's no difference between the -s and -th sounds in Japanese, because they don't have a -th sound. That's still no excuse for 'Aries', though.

Yeah, I know. It's just silly when all of the Japanese merchandise had "Aerith" in English all over it and the translators decide to go in a different direction. *shrugs*

The worst part is he friended me on LJ because I was nice to him once....Now I feel kind of obligated(as punishment for my stupidity...) to continue the niceness until he decides to bug someone else...I wonder if telling him I'm a slash/yaoi writer will scare him off? Or should I just let him find out on his own?

Generally ignoring posts and not replying works just fine, in my experience. I have a couple on my friends list like that... I friend everyone, so... but I never read their entries because they're so unreadable.

I have this bizarre mental affliction that makes me have to be nice to almost anyone on the net while I'm a total bitch in RL....it's weird and annoying.
I don't think it would be so bad if he would use the fucking spell check....

Hey, look, RPG wank! How I've been searching for ye! Can anyone tell me why that particular "genre of wank" doesn't show up more often? Maybe the Final Fantasy fandom, among other RPG fens, just pales in contrast to HP or LOTR... Or are there not many RPG fans on F_W?

I have the same question about comics. I mean. Come on. I know it's out there, my friends talk about it, but I can never find it. Why are 'Spot and 'Space never on f_w? it makes little soletas sad*.

And, you know, god forbid that Leon/Squall have a REASON for the name change. Like, a plot point? Sheesh. And some people would rather play the game and not play the large sections of plot? WTF? I mean, how does one play an RPG and just duck the flying bits of storyline?

Also, we've had the s/th discussion FAR too much in the FFVII fandom. Must it be carried into KH? Stupid fanboys/girls. Su = th AND s. Maybe I should just start calling her Aerisu and solve the problem, eh?

I had a friend like that back in high school. She loved fighting games but hated RPGs with a passion. everyone else in our little dork club loved RPGs. She used to bitch at us all the time and say things like "Why do they do that? If I wanted a story I would just watch a movie!"(Also note "watch a movie" because she hated reading too.)

I started playing FFVII after my husband had gone most of the way through it.

I wanted to rename Aeris/Aerith to Deadmeat. He wouldn't let me. *pouts*

So I named her Aerith instead.
