Can we NOT act like children? ~blinks innocently~
There is this rather small but fun fantasy Roleplaying Multi-User Dungeon(MUD) called Cities of M'dhoria. Some Imms (short for Immortals which means staff on a MUD) were complaining about some Roleplay done by the player-base but somehow everthing seem fine and handily resolved until... Lo and behold, players suddenly get this message as they logged on the 13th(as close as my memory serves): "M'dhoria is closing on Sunday, May 15. Say your goodbyes". From information gathered on the grapevine, it seemed that Verayes and Marrius basically told off the creator Sativa in the board about his vision for the game. Sativa threw tantrums and decided to delete the entire thing (Sadly, the first to go was the board so I have no copy of this). Then in a span of a few hours another announcement came on, the game will not go down but the reason is now announced to all and sundry by another mod by the name of Graven:

Okay, now a little bad news. Yes, children characters will remain removed from the game. That was not actually my decision, but agreed on by many of the staff. I’m sorry, but that’s just the way it’s going to be. Like Sativa said to many of you, that’s just a philosophical difference we’ll have to agree on going forward. Also, an overall raising of the maturity level and the intensity level of the game will slowly begin. More on that later and in the coming days. It’s going to happen, and the wild part is that I know that so many of you would be more than up to the challenge. A little more bad news. Because of their unwillingness to accept these changes, the following members of the staff are removed effective immediately: Verayes, Jakh, and Marrius. More may follow. The remaining staff we have will each have the decision to stay or go all on their own. I will not encourage or discourage any of them, though they will each have to accept the new terms of service for being on the staff. However, the trio listed above are gone, period. I will take whatever steps needed to ensure they cannot access the game. That’s a harsh thing to say and do, but it’s clear that their goals for this game no longer matched ours, and I won’t have them back to meddle and stir up more trouble. I sincerely apologize to all the players who had characters that followed them, and we will do everything we can to assist you in dealing with IC repercussions.

Oh well, facing the Apocalypse was fun. There was a MUD-sex orgy at the town square and several tearful notes of goodbye. Also, Clan Aschal decided to assimilate everyone into the fold before deadline in a crazy fashion without restraints of Roleplaying conventions, since it was an Out Of Character fest in the streets anyway. You could end up snogging folks by just walking up to 'em and have your allegiance and person suddenly hijacked by just bumping into the "We Shall Takeover the World!" officers of Aschal.

In their defense, this is the first time I've seen the CoM Imms become wanky, they're usually a most boringly adult bunch of mods I'd ever seen even when the player-base has gone wanking on more than one occasion. I'm glad that sanity has returned in time to save the game.

As a MUSHer - in fact, the owner of one or three - I just. Wow. I hate wanky wizards like this.

I tend to M* mostly in Pern, which is, of course, my own problem - but heck, this sounds just as bad as the great VirtuaPern Collapse.

Out of curiosity, what game(s) do you run?

Right now, no active ones, but there is a Pern MUSH in the making with my name upon it as one of the directors. (If by any chance you are a Pern MUSHer, do come by when it opens, because I'm not afraid of shameless pluggage.)

I staff on Dragonsfire, Harper's Tale, Dragons' Dusk and sort of on Settlers of Pern, though.

I'm a retired Pern MUSHer, but I admit that every time it comes up, I find myself yearning to take it up again. I like the setting and I love the possibilities it presents, but all the games I've played had a horrifying dipshit-to-awesome ratio.

Is Settlers as good as everybody says it is? Because what I've heard has been fanastically appealing.

Settlers is great -- playing the Masterhealer is a fantastic kick.

Also. I'm working on a game set waaay at the beginning right after the first clutch ever, the genetically engineered one, and could use some more sane, waycool players. Look about for that.

FIRST. PASS. GAME.

God, I'd be over that like a frat boy in a brewery.

Woo. Sounds /awesome/. :D I'd love to get back into Pern M*ing, if I could find a game that had a good plot and didn't explode in wank or end up inactive and shut down after a few months.

I have yet to witness anything wankier than MudWank, for example. It has all the qualities of a fandom wank, plus all the qualities of a political wank, because a lot of people get absorbed in their imaginary lives to the point where their character getting robbed or losing an election means more than a similar event in real life. Add to this anecdotal evidence that an astonishingly large number of mud admins and staff are arrogant egomaniacs, and a like percentage of players are loons with a sense of entitlement the size of Delaware...and the fact that muds are far from static and changes are constantly being made...

Well, let's just say you'd better pack for a visit to Mount Spoogemore virtually every time something in the game changes.

Don't get me wrong, I love to mud and many of the players and admins are terrific people- but MudWank seems to turn even the nice, sane people into wank warriors.

I am reminded again why I got out of MU*ing.

OMG, CoM got wanked. I thought I'll never see the day that it will happen.

And this would be why i gave up on MU*ing. Childish staff. Holy cow there's something about that medium that makes people go insane.
