Welcome to Gothistan

It all starts with someone posting a story to Metafilter about a couple of goths thrown out of a screening for Tim Burton's Willy Wonka. They go home and write an aNGrY blog post.

Well, the Metafilter post descends into goth bashing as often happens when the goth!Jets step into the territory of the computernerd!Sharks.

I know you didn't mean it that way, but that sentence makes it sound like Goths are immigrants from Gothistan, or something, rather than just a buncha shmos in black nail polish.

I'd missed that MeTa thread, but had to stop reading it at jonmc's comment about "jocks, metalheads" etc. because OMFG I think he's a robot. Really, that's the only answer for it, right? For god's sake. The MeTa stuff was funny for a change, damnit.

...but, looking a bit further, I see someone got in a furry snark. So, it's all good.

It's totally within the company's right to bar entry to their private event, but it doesn't look good without a good reason. And most companies don't do it that often because, well, it generally makes customers angry. A company has the right to do it, but these people have the same right to resist it.

That aside, if I was in his position, I'd be pissed as hell too. Also weird as hell that they also said his completely normal-looking wife couldn't enter. Is she OMG tainted by the goth or something?

And here I thought some people - like me - just like frilly clothing and so sometimes wear it. Doesn't have anything to do with gothy - blackdress/black nails just go well together. That's it. I think I've ran around more gothy sometimes than these two. And I'm not a goth at all. I also like white and purple clothes. And Jeans, jeans rock. =D

So I don't think the comparison of gothy clothing = gothy attitude is fair at all.

And well, on the wank...silly xD I mean...I wonder where the problem is anyway. It is just black frilly clothing. I could understand if they used that weird tomb-smell perfume that some goths use(I don't have sympathy for that since it DOES disturb people), but....a black dress? Come on.
But all the guys there who play SO COOL ZOMG for snarking at the four people (ugly....gothhaha)...my. What a disgrace.
Gosh, they aren't supermodels, of course they won't look perfect. They're average people. *shakes head*

I wonder how many of the "they're ugly!!!11" people are really 40 pounds overweight and only able to be cool in the internet ^^ Internet-Sharks indeed.

Now, if they had dressed as Visigoths, I could see where there would be an issue...I won't even get into those filthy Ostrogoths. (shudder)

Ah, to be Goth in Summer... no, wait. We clash with all outdoors!

One of my favorite things to do in the old days was go out on a hot summer day in New York City, get high and laugh at pale people dressed in fishnets and dark velvet and massive eyeshadow trying to stalk around and act all morbid and doomed while little fucking birds tweet around in the clear blue sky and kids eat ice cream cones.

I would be more sympathetic to this guy (seeing as I, on occasion, wear totally over the top "goth" clothing just because I feel like it) if he didn't constantly refer to him and his friends as goths. It has that "But I'm a cheerleader!" ring to it, but with a lisp. A heavily black lipsticked lisp. It's not at all endearing.

Fucking HELL YES.

But I do somewhat sympathise. Okay, they're stupidly-dressed idiots, but that doesn't warrant refusing someone entry.

Hell, I went to a gothic nightclub where you got discounts for how well you were dressed, and it was fucking impossible to get a taxi to stop for us. Geez.
