Eh...are you talking about Japan? If so, you are quite very, very wrong. Rape isn't seen as a method of seduction, it is simply a very, very scary phantasy japanese males tend to delight in - not that much different from western guys, who also get off on it. It is a guy thing, many guys believe indeed that their sexuality will be enjoyed by all women. Nevertheless, it IS fantasy. Japan doesn't have that many rapes, and these that happen are punished. And besides: The infuriating "it is her fault" is an argument that is true over here as well. It is said pretty much every time something like that happens in america. Yeah I know, another culture always has to be teh evil, but seriously. Reality isn't like that. Japan is very mysogonistic, but not in that sense. The mysogonism is more in career choices and prejudices. The very same prejudices can still be found in "advanced" western countries. Forgive me for being ignorant in the ways of Asian Pretend-People-Porn, but wouldn't it be kind of difficult to prove that a character in anime was underage unless they specifically say so. Unless they're wrinkly old men with white hair, I find all anime characters look about 12 anyway... and you can't exactly ask, can you? I think the big thing that stood out for me through this whole thing (yeah, I read all nine pages of comments) is that there was much screaming and gnashing of teeth about "freedom of speech" and "freedom of expression" and all I kept thinking was: Er...Japan isn't the US, guys. Just because the US has this clause doesn't mean every other country has it...or should. Hell, even in Canada, as someone did point out, freedom of speech is limited if it goes against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I don't consider this a bad thing necessarily. But anyway, that whole freedom of expression and speech thing just really stood out for me. I personally do not see the appeal of loli or anime child pornography, but if no actual children are hurt in the making of the product, then it can't be any worse than some of the other sicko stuff out there in comicbook or anime form. I do think laws can be too restrictive. If it can be proven, and I know it cannot, that anime child porn leads to pedophilia (and I firmly believe it doesn't, it's just another medium for the pedo to get his rocks off) then there might be grounds to ban it, but it would seem that one is a pedo before reading the stuff and eventually the reading doesn't give the same amount of satisfaction so the pedo goes on to the next step. I just avoid it. I don't find it midly interesting nor necessary nor do I find it art, but obviously there are others out there who disagree. Overall I'm a bit leery of censorship and there has to be real harm done to real people directly for me to wave the "ban it outright" banner, and even then...it's just too tricky. Hm. Well, the Japanese constitution is a lot like the American one, as the Americans somewhat made it, and there is a freedom of the speech and press clause in there, from what I remember. However, in the United States at least, "obscenity" isn't covered by free speech laws. Pornography is considered obscenity by the US Supreme Court, so it isn't technically protected under the first amendment. Now, Japan may have a different way of dealing with it, as I studied news media rather than porn at school, but I would assume it's the same way or at least similar. But really, the Japanese pretend that it doesn't exist and the boys still get their rocks off on it. In fact, I'm mostly sure this is even being considered at all is because of the international outcry awhile back that Japan is one of the largest producers of child porn in the world.
