Random Star Wars wank
Tiny li'l wank, but it's kind of adorable, actually.

On the Jedi Council forums, Gabricjen starts a petition to protest the supposed addition of extra scenes in the DLP release of Revenge of the Sith:

I am serious about this and please do not lock. Just add your name to the thread and state your case on the difference between the digital version and the film version. Apparrently, Lucas has cut two versions of the film. Anyone who sees the film version as opposed to the digital version will miss a few scenes such as Dagobah and a Rebel meeting. I am sure there are more. We have to let him know that he shouldn't do this and that he is alienating the film version fans because we are unable to see a digital cut. Who's with me? If we get a big thread, maybe theforce.net can forward to Lucasfilm?

Various forms of "You've gotta be kidding me!" ensue. Some choice quotes:
TheChosen1: So you're saying that you want the rest of us to be "punished" just because YOU can't see the digital version. Sounds pretty selfish. You don't even know if the digital one is different.

DarthBot: I'm flyling two thousand miles to see DLP so who ever is complaining is a little bitch. I saved frequent flyer miles for years. Suck it up and drive if it means so much to you.

The kicker, of course, is that the whole petition is pointless, as is summed up in this exchange:
ObWanShawa: What scenes are now not in movie but in DLP?
SithScotti418: None, which makes this thread silly.

Don't worry, those scenes will undoubtedly be on the DVD.

except when he says you can see this but you can't, that is what I have a problem with. And so should you...it sounds like a Emperor Palpatine move to me...

I have seriously miscalculated all my life. George Lucas was the ultimate evil, and it never even occurred to me. It's because of the apathy and blindness of people like me that the Empire rose.

I once read an X-Files/Star Wars fic where Scully was a Jedi and Lucas was a Sith.

Sounds prefectly senseable to me.

Even if everyone knows that X-files is the anti-scobby doo

Forgive (or not) my stupidity.

What is DLP?

Digital [Something] Projection. Basically movie projection without actual film, on digital media. It's super crazy crisp and clear, but only a few theatres support it. In Texas, I think there are THREE in the entire state.

Ah I see.

No idea if we have this in British Columbia... Probably... but I haven't heard of it. :D

Sadly, no :( DLP.com says the handful of theatres with that technology are all in Ontario or Quebec.

But, uh... at least we have the monstrosity that is Collossus? ;)

What are the odds that there are any in San Antonio? Hmm, not good. Oh well, no use driving just to see something that'll likely be on the DVD.

If driving an hour and change north doesn't faze you, it's playing in DLP at the Galaxy 10 in Austin. And it really is something, actually. Even though there aren't any extra scenes in the DLP version after all, it LOOKS incredible.

Oh, and icon love. :)

I saw Hitchhiker's Guide DLP, and...look, maybe my eyes just aren't as good as everyone else's, but there wasn't all that much difference.

The thing is, RotS was shot digitally -- that's where the difference comes in. For movies originally shot on film and transferred to digital, the difference won't really be there.

Wow, DLP is still that rare?

I guess I'm spoiled . . . both the major theaters within 15 miles of me have a couple of DLP screens.

Silly, the Jedi wouldn't shoot first. It's too "uncivilized". =D

If the summary my sister gave of the movie was any indication, Mace Windu would!

Of course, said summary went like this:
Windu: Kill him!
Vaderlet: *whine* I can't, it's not the Jedi way! He must stand trial.
Windu: Dude. He owns the council and the judges are totally his bitches....HE DIES.
Vaderlet: Noooooooooo! *sulk*

I'm not too sure how much credence to give it.

that's pretty accurate...okay, well, SLJ didn't say "dude" or "bitches," but he wanted to.

*SPOILERISH*

Well, it was "uncivilized" according to Kenobi who used a blaster to kill Grevious. That was what he said after he shot Grevious, I guess it's not as funny if you didn't see the scene...

But Mace Windu was pwned, so I'm sure he'd totally use any means necessary to finish Anakin off. (How in the hell did Samuel L. Jackson NOT think that was a crappy death?)

Why would anyone go that far to see a film unless they were going to that place anyway? Yeah, I'd love to see it on digital, too, but that's just crazy.
