OMG JAKOTSU!111eleventy!1!
Tonight the airing of the dubbed version of the popular "Shichinin-tai Arc" of "InuYasha" began on adult swim.

These episodes feature a sadomasochistic gay zombie by the name of Jakotsu.

While I wasn't fond of the voice they picked for Jakotsu myself...

This thread is just ridiculous.

68 149 comments and going. Mostly [info]puppy_inuyasha and their love for the capslock button.

Edit: As a confirmation for those discussing it, Jakotsu was not turned female in the dub. He's voiced by a woman, but was in Japanese as well. Toshi Yoshida (the director of the IY dub) informed me that he would remain male in the cartoon network broadcast when I inquired about it at Kuni-con in March.

This might actually get me to watch the dub this Saturday, just so I can see if his voice is indeed THAT bad. (which I doubt. Viz has excelent VAs in my opinion.)

I respect people's opinions if they hate dubs. I can understand people being upset over a character they know and love being altered through their dialogue, or even a shitty name traslation. But I have no sympathy or respect for people who go as far as the ones in that thread.

Knowing my love of anime, and my gay-rights platform, BE SHOCKED at what I have to say.

It's not like the government passed the Federal Marriage Amendment, people. Yeah, it's homophobic to cover up the gender of a gay character, but that's a toss-up to me with the fact that the gay male chara in question was effeminate in the first place. Either way you turn, homophobia exists in the media. Sad but true.

The ONLY gay male character, Japanese OR American, that I have seen and liked is...Sensui Shinobu. Because he's a person first and gay second, AND he's butch and kickass. (Karasu and Itsuki don't count as gay because they aren't human (and "gay" vs. "straight" is a human social construction), but I like them just the same.)
