Feminism-Lite wank in …where else…the Harry Potter fandom.
Phoenixwriter composes a few hasty thoughts about feminism in the HP universe.

Being a H/Hr shipper, needless to say - Hermione is teh power, whilst the Weasley woman spends her days barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.

Much wankage ensues.

Arthur earn the money while Molly stays at home, thats by no mean equal.

Bitch, please. That is so second-wave. *sniffs disdainfully*

Plus, her syntax? IT BURNS.

Best comment: the OP comparing the daily_snitch to Fandom Wank. Because linking to people's public posts when they're in the fandom is an act of cruel and unmerciful mockery, oh no!

There must be a reason for that. The Weasleys aren't rich, so they could use some extra money ...

They're not rich, therefore they need more money! It's important for a family to have lots and lots of money!

...with Molly working but she don't. Arthur is the one who works, who got a job. Either she don't wants to work, or Arthur don't want that she works.

Because they could not have arrived at that decision after careful consideration of what works best for them as a family -- Molly must be oppressed, either by cultural indoctrination or Arthur's rampant sexism. (Not to mention that we know for an absolute fact that Molly does not earn money in any way.)

Either way thats not equal nor is that feministic.

Remember, kids:

Alike = equal.
Work = salary.
Both parents working = feminism.

My icon pretty much sums up my feelings on this argument.

I mean, seriously. I gather she's a H/Hr shipper, but saying Herm belongs with Harry because Molly's a bad role-model as a feminist followed by Herm is clearly Harry's equal because she's good at school? Does she have one of those grabber things to do the reaching with or does she just use her go-go-Gadget arms?

Ugh, I may be an R/Her too, but I think tartanboxer's icon is the most obnoxious thing in ever. This stupid shipwar's gotten so bitter it's almost like we're rooting to be right just so the other side is wrong, and not because we think our OTP is cute, and want to read about them together.

Also, weren't there stupid icons like that before OotP came out?

So many of these people seem to be reading a completely different series to the one I'm reading.

I don't get why if Molly works in the home (and raising seven kids is work) it automatically means that she had no choice whether to work outside the home or not. You can equally assume she wanted to stay home.

I don't get why not earning the money automatically means you're not equal. You could argue that this is the sexist view. "I earn the money so I decide how it is spent."

And I really don't get what this has to do with who Harry goes out with.

Has anyone pointed out feministic isn't a word?

I can see the OP's point. I've even argued her point. HP has a very old-fashioned feel about it, including its attitudes towards women. I'm in the middle of a R/Hr story (stalled because I'm terrible at het) where Ron can't understand why Hermione wants to go off and have a career and not have any kids. Hermione ends up leaving the wizarding world to puruse a career in the muggle world, tired of being stalled because of her age and sex. Eventually, she gets a position that makes significantly more than Ron's, and they get a divorce.

But the OP could use with some grammar help. Poor thing.

There comes a point when one really can't be bothered, I find. I mean to say, can I really be bothered to wade through pages and pages of "My favourite female is a feminist role model, whereas yours is a wet flannel" versus "My favourite female is a Strong Woman and Cool, whereas yours is clearly destined for Ron"? Especially when Harry really ought to be single until he's had some hardcore psychotherapy (which probably isn't coming around in canon any time soon).

Therefore my views are correct.

Woah, interesting logic from the OP there.

No! They're, they're very platonic friends. But I won't answer for anyone else, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I will never, ever understand shipping wars. And I've never seen them in the slash side of fandom. We all know that there's no way any homosexual pairings will appear in the book, so we just enjoy the porn. Why can't the het people do the same thing?

And since when is the focus of the books who ends up with whom? If you want romance, read Sweet Valley High.

It is anti-feministic because we're talking about Literature and not Real Life. One should be aware JKR chose to let us not know whether Molly had any choice, whether it was her Husband who decided or the society. It don't really matter in the end because its still anti-feministic.

I'm trying to wrap my head around, and fail. Apart from the first sentence *scratches head* we haven't been told so that makes it a negative? 'Her husband or the society', or Molly herself maybe? You want to be specifically told someone has had a choice or made it themselves, otherwise you presume they hadn't? Why not presume they had? Now who's role-casting exactly?

And I hate randomly inserted Important Messages in books anyway.

Someone's been reading too much "Feminism By A Dummy" and not enough "Feminism For Dummies" to be going aroud making such stupid noises, methinks.

And no, I'm not feeling generous about her German'ness when it comes to such atrocious grammar spewed out in public. My cousin from Halle writes English in circles around her in casual handwritten letters and since I don't go around posting in Italian (a language I'm vaguely fluent in), she should stick to Deutsch until she gets her syntax right, at the very least. You don't post on complex issues when you have the language grasp of a five year old, damn.

A giant STFU all around.

Well you see, darling, feminism is based on the totally crazy idea that woman can make their own goddamn choices.

If you had one iota of feminism in you, you'd know that Molly, as a woman, is totally competent to make her own choices in life. STFUKTHXBAI.

OH THANK GOD I am merely a Luna/Anyone shipper (as in, if Luna is part of a pairing, I'll give it a chance, though I'm partial to Ron/Luna) and have stayed out of the crazier shipper wars. For some reason, though Luna was part of the only ship JKR HERSELF has personally blown up (Luna/Neville, in case you were wondering), wank just seems to... bounce off of her.

In fact, the only wank I knew that featured here was where some batshit Harry/Ginny shipper over at FAP tried to "prove" that Harry could never hook up with Luna because Harry was somehow the same as Neville. Or something. Yeah, I didn't follow the logic in that too much either.

So... hip hip hooray for one of the only, almost completely unwanked major characters of the HP verse! Hell, Blaise Zabini gets more freaking wank than she does! XD
