Well, I thought the semi-O-P was a bit wanky with her dazed & confused act. "Well, excuse me for asking for consideration" just misses the point in a pretty deliberate way. But I agree she's not the fun part (unless her icon makes you stare. Did me. Legs. Fishnets. Um. Was there a post?).

I know people who're SW-illiterate and never got it when someone would go "Luke, I am your father" but were never bothered enough/interested enough to ask WTF the quote was about.

Technically to them, it would be a spoiler but really, I have no sympathy for these people getting spoiled. They're classic films, the ending has been known *for decades*. What ARE spoilers are the very specific details of how things happen in ROTS.

I haven't seen The Godfather trilogy but I don't get pissy if someone on my flist blabs about it without spoiler-cuts. If I get spoiled, it's my own damn fault for not watching the movies earlier.

I actually kind of understand this, as I don't think she's refering to the original series at all. I'm a fan of the original series but I never picked up on the fact that the mother had canonically died at the stage the prequels say she did. In fact, I can't really remember her death being mentioned much at all. That's not to say I was under the illusion that she was still alive somewhere, but her death and the time of her death is something that is a spoiler for the third movie as opposed to the original trilogy. I'm most likely a dork for thinking this, but I thought that she actually was around Leia for a few years before her death.

By fan I mean 'watch whenever it's on TV' as opposed to anything more dedicated, so I could have always missed a comment that gave it completely away, but yeah. I understand her point.

I firmly believe that there is a statute of limitations on spoilers. I give people 6 months, 22 years is surely enough time.

Then again I'm the kind of asshole who wanted to run through the Harry Potter fandome screaming "ZOMG Ron dies!!!" the day after OoTP came out.

I dunno. I think the only spoiler that really is as universally known as everyone thinks is "Jesus dies." I did get annoyed when my mom told me Rosebud was a sled before the movie was over. Not that I went batshit and screamed "OMG U R00IND IT I H8 U!!!1" But neither did the person suggesting the spoiler cut.
