wank, there is plenty

It's been a few entries since fanficrants has been wanking but, like the tides, it always returns to cover you with foamy bits.

...In short, twisting about the elements of the Jedi Order in the prequals to portray them in thw worst possible image, to the point where the Sith don't seem so bad in comparison.


...That sort of behavior just makes me wonder what movies those people actually saw...

And people begin to flip-flop around between "Sith are teh evol!" and "Jedi are teh evol!" over and over again.

My Star Wars tabletop group wanks about this endlessly. We came to the conclusion that the Jedi are essentially an order of Eastern mystics with a bit of the D&D Paladin thing going on, and that George Lucas just sucks ass at writing. The idea of compassionate detachment is a fine one, and central to the sort of Taoist and/or Buddhist vibe the Jedi seem to have, but in Lucas's portrayal, he misses the "compassion" part by a country mile and just ends up with this weird-ass muddled patchwork of different concepts that he though were cool.

The Buddha is quoted as enjoining his followers to "participate joyfully in the suffering of the world." That's what I strive for when I play a Jedi, and ignore the hell out of the movie portrayals, because they are all pretty much entirely fucked up.

Actually, I think that part is feudally romantic. The idea of constructing your weapon with your hands, putting your own self into it so that it's that much more important, that it's part of you . . . but then again, I'm a hopeless romantic (in the old meaning of the term).

I agree with rans_curse's point. It's aaaaaaaaaaall in the point of view of the individual.

Personally? The Jedi are "the good guys", but certainly not infallible, certainly not god-like in the goodliness. And the Sith are "the bad guys" but more because they oppose the Jedi and are made out to be so than for any definite reason.

Then again, I'm on a kick of looking at Good Vs. Evil books&movies and saying "Heyyyy... this looks a lot like a retelling of X war" and I'm of the firm opinion that neither side in any war is good or bad, they just have very very different ideals.

OP: MY interpretation is completely obvious and if you don't agree, you're clearly noncanonical and reading a different source material than I am.
