Oppression -- it's not just for breakfast anymore....
This little gem was passed along by a member of of a humor-oriented RP, campfuckudie. While I'm profoundly clueless about RP's, it's hard not to see the, erm, hilarity here. Campfuckudie's mission statement, as described in the userinfo is: a crack multifandom RP (meaning Harry Potter, Edward Elric, and Nara Shikamaru are all welcome to attend) where zombies run amok and non-players are encouraged to participate through personal comments to the characters and NPCs. Here at the Camp, we strive to create an interactive fandom B-movie that borders on stupid, basically. All in all, a place that doesn't seem to take itself too seriously.

But as surely as empires will always rise and fall, and the oceans will always crash against shores populated exclusively by burnt tourists in gaudy Hawaiian shirts and plastic sandals, people will always take something too seriously. Enter sarahtheboring. Her username alone hints at the self-perception issues soon to come, and when she posts to ask how to be funneh, it is a small foretaste of things to come.



In a general sense, how do you know if something is funny enough to post?

Okay, assume that I have no natural sense of knowing what other people will find funny. I know what makes me laugh, but that's not important. Does anyone have a suggestion to give me a crutch until I develop that all-important You Just Made My Brain Rupture Laughing, You Jerk sense?

Specific instance right now: I have an idea for what to do with the ice-cream thing. It kinda makes me laugh, a little. It's probably not going to make people throw up laughing, though. So how can I find out? Pester my friendslist with test-audience polls until everyone begs me never to mention CFYD again?

I'm failing at this, and it's starting to bother me. I mean yeah, it's not a Big Problem, but I'd still like to pull my weight if I can.

People reassure her that testing on small laboratory animals isn't absolutely necessary and sometimes one has to just risk the rage and anguish of unamused readers. Eizra points out that someone is likely to find a post funny , to which Ms. theboring replies that "someone" isn't good enough, by gawd, and she wants to amuse everyone. Which pretty much sets the tone for the entire post, with people telling her to just relax and let it flow, don't worry so much, let go of the damned raft, et cetera.

But this is just a prelude to the fun stuff to come. A week or so later, a Modly One makes a post to announce that people will start being kicked out for inactivity

At first, people react rationally. Someone hits on the entirely important, if apparently random, issue of garden gnomes, other people ask boring but relevant questions about the issue, I start to realize how many fucking people on my various f-lists are in this community, and so on.



Panicking, she leaps into the fray:

fuck. :/ So... an unfunny, not very inventive post six times a day is better than a unique or fun post every two weeks?

...my aching head and friendslist.

OK, that's extreme, but still. I'm probably going to panic because my character really isn't at the epicenter of everything; I probably can't think of something truly worth front-page posting every two hours or whatever. :P

The mod attempts to reassure sarahtheboring several (and I mean, several) times. Sarahtheboring absolutely and completely refuses to be reassured.

Finally, people start asking if sarahtheboring isn't putting a wee bit too much stress on herself over a game, and if maybe it might not be the game for her. To no independent observer's surprise, Ms. theboring interprets that badly:

please, just say "you suck." I hate euphemisms and "this is not for you" is especially slimy.

I wish I'd known this going in. I picked a character who was a bit part in canon and really isn't built to hold the spotlight all the time. I wasn't prepared for this.

People rush to tell her she doesn't have to suck unless it's consensual. Faced with people being nice to her, sarahtheboring fights back mightily, bringing to bear every illogicality and idiosyncrasy in her arsenal to make certain she's being oppressed no matter how fucking hard everyone tries not to oppress her. It just goes on and on, from people telling her she's not going to get kicked out to her declaring that she's tired of fighting the non-existent movement to kick her out (reverse psychology for the insane) and so on. Just go...read the threads.

For fans of insane troll logic, it's well worth the read....

ETA: Not that she's a troll. It's just a Buffy reference where...oh, fuck it. Just read the damned comments.

ETA the 2nd: Just a reminder -- trolling the places/people being wanked is generally verboten. And, in these terms, "trolling" includes jumping into the fray, even if you aren't actually being a troll. While biz's claim of f_w trolls seems a bit exaggerated (the explosion in comments seems, in a large part, due to her and other members), I still found a couple f_w members who weren't also members of campfuckudie commenting there. Trolling the wanks is a potentially bannable offense. Just don't do it, please.
