Sim Wank!
Christ, I thought this fandom was wank-immune.

Someone whines because her husband's Sim-self isn't married to her Sim-self. Woman further whines that one of the stock Sims that comes with the game has a higher relationship score with Sim-Hubby than Sim-Her.

Bear in mind, this isn't Sims Online. This is plain old single-player PC Sims.

I am still not happy. I dont say anything. But when I go to play, I think. OMG - There's the WHORE that is trying to take my man...

Anyone else have this problem or do I need some counseling?

That's right, Bimbette is getting all worked up because a completely imaginary digital representation of a person is going to STEAL HER MAN.

Small discussion, but definite wank potential.

I feel this woman's pain, I really do. I mean, how can we mere humans even attempt to compare to the temptation presented by those hot pieces of pixelated Sim ass? I mean, the constant gibberish, frozen facial expressions, and blur-bars every time they get naked-- sex-ay.

Seriously, now I feel dirty about my current Sims game, wherein SimKeri is currently in a hot and heavy relationship with SimClayAiken a handsome redheaded stranger... I can tell the difference between games and real life, I can, I swear!

And on a related note, what is with people who are so insecure that they can't separate fantasy from their real-life relationships? I remember a few months ago, some girl posted on a slash board I used to visit (which has since been deleted, so unfortunately I can't link to the post) saying that she wasn't going to write slash anymore, because her boyfriend found out about it and felt that it was equivalent to her cheating on him. It was an incredibly wanky and overdramatic post, as she went on to beg other slash writers to "consider what you might be doing to yourselves and the people who love you".

Some people just really, really need a good smack upside the head to learn the difference between fantasy and reality.

Funny she should say that, because when the boy who would later become my boyfriend found out I wrote slash, his reaction was. "Mmmm... girl who write porn = sexy!" But everyone's different. :-P

What in the name of God is WRONG with this chick?

If she's being totally and completely serious about this, I can only help but wonder about her mental and emotional stability levels. If she's getting this worked up over a fictional violation of her marriage (as avatared in a Sims game), there could be more to this "dilemma" than meets the eye.

My personal favorite bit of wank:

before my ex and i from awhile ago broke up, I let him make a family. when we broke up I burned them all to death.

Dear God, there's more than one of these crazies, and they're enabling each other. Although this post kind of makes me want to go buy The Sims.

*sobs* There's something very disturbing about pixelated violence. It makes me happy I don't own any videogames, or I might be tempted to come home after a hard day, model a character after my mailman, and blow him to pieces.

Never a good thing. It makes me sort of weirded out that pop culture is creating people like them.

Oh man... I almost didn't wanna touch this wank since the replies here started getting kinda wanky themselves... but this is an excuse to brag about MY little fucked up Sims family. XD

Anyway, the Sims are a good outlet, and somewhat realistic (they've gotten more realistic I noticed *still has the original only*), but overall? No. They're still as much fantasy as something like Super Mario Bros. ...okay, that's a bad comparison- they're way more realistic than Mario, but the point remains, is that ultimately they're all just pixels on the screen- not real. Once someone gets that point (most do by age 10, I believe, though I could be off on the age), then games are pretty harmless.

I, myself, am a big believer in Catharsism. I also realize that Catharsism does not work for everyone. My brother is a good case in point for that, but he's ADHD and I have no clue how much that might factor into that. That discussion about how "stuff like GTA shouldn't be allowed to exist!!11" is kinda wanky in my opinion. No, it's not necessary and yes, children may have trouble with it afterwards, but there's a little thing called parenting- children get things behind their parents back, certainly, but most stuff can be caught if you just would get off your lazy ass and take care of your goddamned sprog.

And games aren't really an "experiencing first hand! >:D" sort of thing either- I dunno about you guys, but I don't get off watching my sims play in bed (well, the one time I had the expansion back that HAD the damned bed in it). And I don't get an adrenaline high playing violent video games. Granted that the last video game I played that had violence in it was The Legend of Zelda, but that's beside the point. I'm more likely to get an adrenaline high from writing a good action scene. You only experience things that happen on your monitor first hand if your imagination is that good- at which point, the whole thing runs back to the "learning to distinguish real life from fantasy" argument- you CAN'T avoid that little lesson if you're gonna exist in this world. There's a difference between escaping reality and living in a dream world.

There's absolutely no reason that games or shows should not be made if they have violence or sex in them just because some child or someone with the mentality of one can get ahold of it. Don't punish the rest of us for the weaknesses of some. Take CARE of these people properly, and there wouldn't be a problem. And don't whine at me about how that game that caused such a mess up above this reply "HAS RAPE IN IT!! >:(". From what I understand, it DOES NOT HAVE RAPE. Rape is non-consenual sexual relations. The sex with the prostitute is consensual on both parts and both parties have likely derived pleasure from it. It's the beating of the prostitute that's questionable, but, as it was mentioned, the game was intentionally over the top and it wasn't meant for someone underage to get their hands on it. It has a high rating for a reason- ratings only work when the parent is willing to be a parent.

Running back to the issue of the original post- this woman has issues. Severe ones. First of all, I'm not sure I would make my sims be like real peoplep- that would creep me out, but that's my preference. HOWEVER, sims are meant to be harmless fun- you're not supposed to translate what happens there into real life EVER. If I did that, I'd have some REAL issues, because my main family started with Allen Schezar and Sephiroth as brothers and has since had Celena (Allen's sister in the orginal show he's from) marry into the familiy through Allen and Shigure from Fruits Basket marry in through Sephiroth. (All three men are in love with Celena, as irony would have it- as is Shigure's former-best friend, Yuki.) The standard soap opera-esque hilarity abounds. I find it funny as hell- I get the feeling that if that woman had something even half as twisted happen in her sims world, she'd die from a heart attack.

Ah, feel the wank. *sits back and sips some lemonade, watching the fun*

Just wondering, because I realized that nobody was going to understand my OWN valid points a long time ago in this thread, but, like, WTF does bad parenting, your own love of writing action scenes, and The Legend Of Zelda have to do with the gratituous, unnecessary, and certainly not beneficial in the very least, violence in Vice City and it's effects on the psyche of adults?

I mean, I've never played the game, because I think it's sick with a capital S, but from what I've heard from multiple sources, you most certainly can force a woman into sex at points in that game. Keeping in mind I don't play games like that, because I think they suck balls- in the literal, mindless show of testosterone, sort of way.

I mean, whether you can seperate fiction from reality, as I said, thinking that beating the shit out of women, even pixelated women, is A: funny and B: enjoyable, is not helping things, at the very least.

Just wondering, because I realized that nobody was going to understand my OWN valid points a long time ago in this thread

Dude, not agreeing =/= not understanding. I understand perfectly well what you're saying, and I think just about everyone else in the discussion does too. We just have different points of view, and, you know, that's allowed.

I mean, I've never played the game, because I think it's sick with a capital S, but from what I've heard from multiple sources, you most certainly can force a woman into sex at points in that game.

I'm pretty sure your sources are wrong, because I HAVE played the game, and also read a ton of articles and reviews about it, and nowhere did I see or hear any references to non-consensual sex. Again, the game's main sexual theme is prostitution, not rape. This is beginning to seem about equivalent to the fundies who go on and on about how Satanic and evil Harry Potter is when they've never actually read any of the books, but are just going by "what they've heard"-- it's never good to pass moral judgment on something when you don't know all the facts. Apologies if I somehow missed something and there really ARE rape themes in the game, but I'm pretty sure there aren't.

I mean, whether you can seperate fiction from reality, as I said, thinking that beating the shit out of women, even pixelated women, is A: funny and B: enjoyable, is not helping things, at the very least.

Again, why the singling out of women? Shouldn't it be equally offensive to think that beating the shit out of men is funny and enjoyable? Or is that okay, because men can take care of themselves, but women can't?

I should really let this go, but I'm honestly curious now. So yeah, wank on. A wank within a wank-- all very meta and such.

You see the violence as unncessary- I agree, it's over the top. It was intentionally that way I think, as I mentioned. It might not help anything, but it only HARMS something when the person partaking of this violence can't keep this violence in the game and out of reality.

It's called Catharsism- the ability to let the violence in tv, games, or any other form of fantasy media act as a source of venting for your own frustrations. Freud called it sublimation- directing aggressions (usually sexual or violent) into an acceptable behavior. And there is NOTHING wrong with playing a video game, regardless of the video game's content. I don't know about you, but I'd rather someone run over pixelated people in a video game with a pixelated car than go out and actually kill someone. So in that sense, for some, it might be helpful.

This is not to say it can't be harmful- that's when the bad parenting comes in, since usually, it's children that have more trouble with this sort of thing. They cannot distiguish reality from fantasy- catharsism loses its effectiveness when you don't have that ability. If you can't tell the difference, and fantasy tells you it's all right to hurt someone like that, then you'll think it's all right in real life too. Period. If a child gets ahold of this stuff, it's not ALWAYS the parents' fault, but it usually is.

The writing and the Legend of Zelda... those were just examples of MY catharsism. ^^;;;

But you don't like or appreciate violence in video games/movies/tv/stories/whatever, and that's perfectly acceptable. But to say that it should be removed from all of these mediums is NOT acceptable. Those of us who can use sublimation to keep ourselves sane should not be punished because there are those who can't. I NEED the death in my stories to help me deal with the numerous deaths I've suffered through- take that away and I'd probably lose it. (This was also an example, for the record.)

I wasn't IGNORING your points above, and they can be valid, but I felt the need to defend catharsism since it CAN work and too many people deny this fact.
