Batman Begins (to provide wank)
In the IMDB.com forums, ID4EVER4 sez:

Why did they not have the Joker kill the Waynes. This is a prequel, and yes, I know I'm going to be critised by the fanboys for saying so, but it IS SUPPOSED TO BE!

However, it would have been a TRUE prequel if they had the Joker kill the Waynes.

A representative answer:
You are deeply stupid. It is one thing for people to be ignorant, but you try and DENY the facts.

ID4EVER4 insists:
Then the producers are stupid!

It's like "restarting" the Star Wars, James Bond, Star Trek, and Indiana Jones series.

Not only is it destroying the classics we love, it breeds competition between the two franchises.

Well, I'll leave the fanboys alone. Clearly they would rather have one movie compared to 4! (2 of which were better then this one, 2 of which sucked.)

It started an hour ago (from the moment I'm typing), so it has to keep growing. :)

I've been tempted to wank the Batmans Begins boards (though at this point, it would have to be [info]i_wanked, because I've been doing my share of fapping. But I couldn't figure out where to start, and now, the splooge is so deep you'd need a submarine to navigate it.

So, um, having a movie in the spirit of the two acknowledged best story arcs of the Batman franchise is "destroying the classics we love." Glad I got the memo!

I have a reprint somewhere of early Batman comics; IIRC, the villain who killed Mr. & Mrs. Bruce was just an unidentified criminal, not the Joker. Is there later canon that changes this?

I don't know if it was ever changed, but for a long time it was Joe Chill who killed them.

IIRC, in the Tim Burton movie, it is specified that Jack Napier -who would later become the Joker- kills the Waynes.
This was just to make the movie more self-contained and give Bruce a reason to really hate the Joker (As if killing half of Gotham wasn't enough)
And... I'm not sure, but I think that the criminal who killed the Waynes in the comic _was_ called Jack something. HE was identified, and died of a heart attack seconds after realizing that the Batman was Bruce Wayne -because, you see, he feared that all the other criminals would try to kill him.
Of course, it's been so long since I read those comics, I could be mistaken.

Yeah - they made it this whole circular thing. The Joker killed Bats parents, in the movie.

This way, ya see, the Joker technically made Batman, and then Batman made the Joker, and it's thise whole circle of vengeance/hatred. I actually think it's kinda cool.

In Batman: Year One, which Begins was supposedly superficially based on, it was Joe Chill. Joe Chill is pretty much canonically the murderer as far as I know - the Burton movie is the only thing I've seen that states otherwise.

Babs wanted her trauma back. I'm sure the Gordon family is very grateful that the Joker won't be bothering with the Waynes in the future.

Who else votes for The Killing Joke as the inspiration for the next movie? *raises hand*

Two better, two sucked? I'd have to put Batman begins on a level with Batman. I like both equally. I was very impressed with Batman Returns, considering I came into the movie with an additude of "geez, this is gonnna suck." The only problems I even have with Batman returns are nitpicky ones, just like Batman.

And I was all happy seeing Gary Oldman playing soon-to-be Comminsioner Gordon. I love Gary Oldman so very very much.

Lucky. The husband insisted I read Year One before I saw the movie, to decrease the question-asking. So I knew about Joe Chill.

Problem for me was I kept reading it as Joe Cool. Thus having an image in my mind of Snoopy with a gun, shooting Lucy and Schroeder as they left a Beethoven concert.

...yes, I read it at 2 AM while playing City of Heroes. What?

I'm such a shitty fan of the movie-- I can't even begin to care about this wank or any of the Batman topics near and dear to everyone's heart. I don't really care about any of the tragic backstory or who killed the Waynes, or Christian Bale emoting his heart out or wasserface Tom Cruise's Beard running into peril every 5 seconds because she's such a noble soul.

I'm all about the Cillian Murphy crazy-creepy-sexy-psychiatrist-with-designer-glasses love. All about it. Because seriously? He? In this flick? Was TEH HOT. Aaaaaaaugh! What is it with sexy, pouty, ever-so-slightly-nutty men that turns me on so much?!
