Irony much, love?
Greetings! I bring a little wank love from the GodAwful FanFiction board. The title of the thread is:

ENOUGH of the slash versus het threads! *rant*

As Chainsawmidget pointed out to the original poster ouchthathurt:

So, you're tired of seeing threads on the topic, so you make a new and rather conforntation thread about the topic.

I think you may not have thought this though completely, ouch.

Then some people start pouring in to express their sentiments as usual, ho-hum.

Ouchthathurt.. hmmmm, the name seems familiar... Millyfan?.

I saw that thread and refused to write anything in it. Seems my decision was right. *siiiigh*

Yep, Millyfan. I'm kind of impressed; she may have started the thwapping, but she seems to have stayed out of it after. That deserves maybe half a point.

Of course, for all her seemingly-logical points on canon and all that, she thinks Knives/Vash is canon.

If nothing else, thank you for introducing me to GAFF. I've just spent an hour of my life reading all of Celebrian and I feel horrid, dirty and accomplished. What a nightmare that whole board is. The world sinks deeper and deeper into irredeemable wankdom.

My personal low point was where I could predict Celebrian's next kinky act and what colour it was going to be.

The brain, it is numb.

Whoa! You read all of Celebrian.

Congratulations, I guess.

I'm a regular GAFFer, myself, and I haven't been able to bring myself to read all of it. I read the first few paragraphs and chickened out.

I've never been able to even click "Agony in Pink," though I have read excerpts of "Tracy's Barbeque."

Again, dubious congratuations, oh person I do not know, but who must be strong of stomach.

The way I heard the story, someone heard from their Japanese friend that a future issue of YKO had Legato being raped. Possibly by Knives, possibly not. It was all very vague. I don't know if it's been clarified since then and I just didn't hear about it or if it just sort of took on a fanon life of its own.

First, not all writers of yaoi/slash/whatever you want to call it are the same. We're not some collective borg obsessed with teh hawt bishies!!111 and teh mpreg!!!11.

To this? Word.

However, the others have a point...in fact, they're right. If millyfan ouchthathurt is so tired of seeing these threads, why did she start one?

I kinda agree with her about how just because a pairing is 'noncanonical' doesn't make it inherently bad.

Meh. I haven't been online all day, and here's the first place I wind up?

Okay. I at least hope this isn't another "Let's rag on MillyFan" session, because, when you look at it, most of the wank is not hers. The thread in question seems to have devolved into a Harry Potter fandom wank.

Harry Potter isn't even MF's fandom. She's stayed out of it and can't help it if a thread she started got out of control.

Just my observations.

Nah, I don't think MillyFan is really the target here. The topic itself, though, is kind of inherently wanky. Though I'll gladly give her props for saying what I'm always thinking whenever someone asks (demands) slash writers explain themselves.

Do some of these anti-slash people live under a rock? I don't exactly live in Liberal Central (okay, my state went for Kerry, but still) and I went to high school with people who-- gasp!-- dated and were to all appearances interested in the opposite sex and then came out as gay, are bisexual, were always gay but didn't date or come out in school...seriously, what kind of blinders do you have to have on?

If you don't like slash, that's fine (though I'd appreciate it if you shut up about it). But this willful reluctance to accept reality...I don't get it.

I like pointing out that disliking slash does not equal homophobe.

then it's okayBut this willful reluctance to accept reality...I don't get it.

Aroo? What reality? That people write it? Sure. That they don't have to justify it? Sure.

But watching people turn purple when I point out that people who want to write gay characters as straight have as much right to is just plain fun.

However, I wouldn't write yaoi for LOTR because it's anticanonical aside from Legolas/Gimli.

The FUCK?!

How the HELL is that any more canonical than Frodo/Sam may I ask? Having read the books, there's far more of a "canonical" case for Frodo and Sam shagging like bunnies than Legolas and Gimli. She makes the POINT that a straight man can get married and have kids then realises he's actually bi so why is Frodo/Sam anticanonical?

(really ought to note here that I am not involved in the LotR fandom and don't write anything for it but I know what I feel and that is that if you can write Legolas/Gimli, you can write Frodo/Sam)

Some choice quotes that caught my eye. What an amusing thread to kill my morning with.

If you already know it's a Harry/Draco fic. And you hate that idea, why read it? Or really care that somebody else wrote the fic.

I don't read it. And the reason I care is because while these people were writing it, they could have been writing something worth reading instead.

'Like stuff I want to read instead of dreck that I won't read...it's all about me! Write stuff I want to read instead of stuff you want to read and write about!'

~*~

That said, I know perfectly well that this isn't going to make the slightest difference to slash fans. They'll continue to insist that 'so-and-so could be gay',

I don't insist anyone could be gay. I just want to see them fucking.

~*~

If a character is much over 20, s/he has probably figured out what his/her sexual orientation is by now.

Ooooooooh. Is that how it works? Okay!
