I'm sorry, but I agree with the OP. There are inconsistencies in other author's books as well - and when people make wanky posts about it, I think "WTF? Didn't you just say you LIKED the book? Why the hell do you keep reading if they're such a hack? Nevermind that: why do you keep writing fanfic based on crappy writing?!"

JKR is not my favourite writer but any means. My favourite author (see icon) makes tons of punctuation mistakes. I still read him because what the hell, it's a small detail and it doesn't take away from the story if he forgets to close quotation marks. Getting uppity about prefect points or some shit...I just don't get it. You've got TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS WHICH YOU SHOULD SPEND PETTING SHEEP AT THE ZOO, in my opinion.

It's fine to mold a character in fanfic to the way you see them. But I think it sucks to get mad at the author for not allowing your fanficcy dreams to come true.

They're HER characters, HER story - she's got the copyright, not us. Bitch all you want, I guess, but you look stupid doing it.

*nods* See and the thing that Connie was saying was "Go ahead and bitch!" she gets that(book 5 was not a favorite of many of my friends, while I loved it) her main thing in posting that was because in the wanky part of the fandom(shippers, Draco fangirls, Snape fangirls, whutever) a fair amount of us have decided ahead of time that if JKR writes XYZ(or if she doesn't write it a certain way) that JKR is a hack and SUCORZZZ!11!! as a writer.

Well heck can we all wait until book 7 and have all the pieces before we crucify JKR as the suckiest writer of all time? I'm just sayin. :\

I personally think you can critise work and still love the author, but some of these people need to cut the shit and just admit that they want a ship to happen to stick it to ABC on XYZ ship.

Well...I agree to a point. Yes, it sucks to get mad at the author for not allowing your fanficcy dreams to come true. But I think it's legitimate to express disappointment, anger, frustration at a storyline you don't like, or a plot twist that seems unearned, or whatever (not in the HP fandom, just talking in general terms). One of the big appeals of Fruits Basket for me was the sort of freewheelingness of sexuality there-- Haru's crush on Yuki, Aayme's...existence, and it seems like the mangaka in later volumes leans more toward THESE PEOPLE ARE HETEROSEXUAL, yo. It's her manga, and she can do what she wants. But I'll still be disappointed if that's the case because one of the things I liked most about the series will be gone.

It's my free time, and I only like sheep on my plate or as clothing. So bite me, if I have free time I'll do what I feel like doing, and if that's writing a 10 page deconstruction of JKR's universe, well, the lj-cut is there so you have a choice about reading it.

I'm so tired of hearing people say that if you spend a lot of time criticising something you must not like it. If you don't know what it feels like to really love something and at the same time find it flawed in ways that are sometimes really disturbing, good for you. Have fun at the zoo.

I'm trying not to have any large expectations (shipwise, theorywise) because I don't want to be largely disappointed.

Lessons learned in the HP fandom:

1. There will always be people in the fandom who don't like the books. Much or at all. They'll point out every single flaw they happen to think is there.

2. At the other extreme, there are the people who really like the books and will defend ANY decision made by Rowling until it kills them.

Sanity is usually located somewhere in between.

Okay, am I the only one who thinks that JKR needs to shut up about everything in interviews? It seems that she's just causing more drama. Allow the speculation, allow people to guess at what is going to happen. People ARE total drama queens when it comes to their favorite characters, and WILL stop reading if you tell them it's not going to be a certain way. Utterly idiotic.
