Miss Tori wrote a "fanfiction"...

I'm tilting my head sideways right the fuck over and those two paragraphs are not quite jibing... Anyway, as far as I can tell without reading the tale in question (sorry, I'm violently allergic to this kind of fanfic), [info]misstoric took great pains to use outdated "Fruedian" rationalization to get her Mary Sue into bed with Boba Fett. *shudder* Okay!

I grudgingly guess some of her pedantic, humorless rationalizations aren't TOO winceworthy for a Mary Sue. I've seen worse. However, here's where the wank comes in: she posted a lengthy demand for "criticism." She got it. Guess what? She didn't like it. So what does she do? Of course! She scurries over to another community to fuss and cry about it. Because her psychoanalysis story is leik omg too awsome to be psychoanalyzed by somebody ELSE! Validate her! VALIDATE HEEEER!!!

What do you think? Wank or merely whine?

I think the fact that she thanked the person to her face and then went to another community to bitch and whine about it behind her back is quite wanky.

Here's to hoping that mariagoner finds out about the rant and that retaliates.

Between this, the people who keep criticizing slash or het for having certain faults when their genre of choice has the exact same problem, and the girl who can't spell to save her life and makes no obvious effort to improve yet constantly rants about/mocks other people's bad spelling, then yes - I smell more of that sweet, sweet wank in the near future.

Personally, I bailed a couple of months ago when someone on the comm bitched me out for daring to have an icon of the same character as they did. Not the same icon - using the same character. Uh. I was under the impression that fans of characters did such things.

Too wanky for my blood, thanks... I'm still mystified by that.

It was a good premise for a comm, though. Generalized fanfic venting will get my attention any day. ;)

I don't get what she was so upset about really. There were no flames, what was said seemed constructive enough. I guess she was looking for someone to really praise the story. Frankly the story disturbed me on a couple levels.

Hssss!* I've never quite understood Star Wars Mary Sue writers, though. ~_~ *pain* They never want to pair up with one of the *hot* guys, they always go after Boba Fett and Darth Maul. O_O

I've also never understood the urge of the Mary Sue writer to get all wanky when someone mocks/points out her failings as a writer. Surely to gods the first step in becoming a good writer is to realize you *suck*.

Yes.

I'm not sure what FallofRain's problem is. I know him/her from other LJs and she/he's usually a pretty cool person.

It's not much the incest squick, because I do understand why that puts many people off, but the holier-than-thou 'tude about it.

I mean some poor guy asks for a BartxSiguard fic and you go off on them? How is THAT something to be proud of?

Just cause something isn't your /thing/ doesn't make it the Greatest Evil the World Has Known.

Perhaps I'm alone in this, but that didn't really bug me. I've just seen the incest and rape debates so many times in so many different fandoms that it's ceased to have any impact on me by now-- my general reaction is "oh, not this again" and to hit the back button.

OTOH, fanficrants has become steadily more wanky over the past month, and now seems to consist largely of people dropping in to complain about bad reviews they got on ff.net. The last interesting thing I saw there was the mildly amusing "YOUR HOMOPHOBIC ICON OFFENDS ME!" spat.
