A young HP fan in the USA took a year to write her own version of the upcoming book, and is going to Scotland, hoping to meet JK Rowling and show her the book. The story is posted on Mugglenet, and faster than you can say Hogwarts, the fans start wanking away.

Nikki: omg! so this chick writes her own version of the bestest book ever and she gets to meet the bestest author ever? NOT COOL.

julie: what a psycho with too much time on her hands

Marieke: I don't like her. You can't call yourself
"THE BIGGEST FAN!"
I don't like that kind of girls and neiter boys who do that.
It's cool that she wrote 800+ pages, but that doesn't say a thing about the quality of it.

who could be jo's biggest fan: why would she do that right her own 6th book, i mean really. i bet the book it really pathetic but still wanna read it

JJMan: Now that is awesome! Hard work though. But sadly i have read the books more times than her. :D ah well. i have read the 1st book 34 times, the second 32 times, the third 43 times, the 4th 56 times and the 5th 76 times. [I have alot of spare time]

Madhu: I wrote my own version of the 5th book and I read the series 98 times up to date, but I could never travel to scotland! Go her!

JJMan: Many people see themselves as the "biggest Harry Potter fan" but i KNOW i am the biggest Harry Potter fan.

Madhu: I have a problem with her saying she's HP's biggest fan too. I mean, not all of us can travel to Scotland. If she's got the money and the time, good for her. No need to praise herself too much. I just hate it when people say they are the biggest hp fan. We all are completely obsessed with HP, so measuring which one is the BIGGEST HP FAN will always come down to how much HP merchandise/money one has. I mean, I've read HP quite a few times. GoF, I've read 108 times. (the other, 98 times) But I'm pretty sure someone somewhere has a more HP merchandise than I do.

Leah: Why are you all hating on her? So what, she wrote a fanfiction in her spare time. If a lot of you had the actual talent to do that, you probably would, life or no life. Don't go calling people you don't know pathetic.

Arimalka: I think she should be proud of writing it- I'd love to read it! And I'm glad she gets to meet JKR. Hey, if you get the chance, why not take it?

And thats from just the first page of 5 pages of comments......

You'd think she wouldn't be so quick to call it "the bestest book ever." You'd think she'd at least wait for the book to be, you know, published first.

You'd think that... if you didn't know the first thing about the HP fandom.

Ah, my beloved HP. You wank so hardcore it's incredibly funny.

Still, don't see the point in her going to Scotland because she wrote some fanfic. I know lots of fic writers, including a few in Scotland, and they've never gone to try to meet Jo.

On the story itself, isn't there someone in this girl's life, maybe even the journalist writing the report, that can explain to her why authors aren't really anxious to look at fanfic publicly? I mean, it just seems rather unfair letting this girl go on with her delusions, and setting her up for a fall.

Seriously, I can't believe her parents are allowing this.

It's awesome that she was inspired to write a fanfic but so have a zillion other fans out there. Not every fanfic author who writes a fic jumps on a plan and feels the need to hunt JKR down.

Not to mention that even if she mets JKR, there's no chance in hell that she will read the fic. Not because she doesn't want to but legally it would be a huge mistake.

If anything written in the girl's fic shows up in book seven then the family of the girl could sue JKR for plagarism, even if it's just a concidence.

Someone should really tell her that.

I love the "she has too much free time" and "she needs a hobby" and "get a life" comments. I guess none of these people have heard of if you want something bad enough, you'll make time for it - or variations thereof.

I wrote several novels by the time I was fifteen (only one of them has survived the last 25 years though and I still have it - handwritten in several large school notebooks). I made time to write them, and of course was a full time student, had a social life (well, what my mother let me have) and worked part-time. I just wanted to be a writer that bad.

Of course, the novels were pretty bad. After all, I was writing them between the ages of 12 to 15 and they read like that age group, but hey, I still wrote 'em. :P

I didn't even know what fanfiction was back then. Not that any of them were fanfiction. I did show some of them to local published writers I had the joy to meet and they all said, keep writing, make time for it, you're good and can only get better.

I keep 'em around to have a good chuckle now and then - it keeps me humble.

I'm still not published though. You'd think if I wanted it that bad, I'd have tried, but I'm a big chicken.

And yet a guide to the English language not once, apparently.

So, let me get this straight: chick writes fanfic, wants to go stalk JK, makes silly comment on being best fan evah, and now everyone has their panties in a twist?

...the HP fandom makes me grow a new understanding of the usefulness of Prozac, Valium, and their respective equivalents.

I keep reading this sentence over. In the time spent doing that she could have had a minimum wage Saturday job, saved up the 1500 dollars or so and flown to London. The Magic Bus does London to Glasgow for £2.50.

But, of course, that would be crazy. Even crazier that counting how many times you read a book.

Not in HP fandom, don't read the books, don't care, but...

Natalie has had the novel specially bound, but is not selling it. In her version of the sixth book, evil Professor Snape is the mysterious Half-Blood Prince.

Wow. Be a dick and give the ending away, dude. :D
