Stop the slash! STFU homophobe!
[info]darksunlight posts in Bad Roleplayers Suck, telling all the fangirls to stop slashing canonly straight men!

There's some realtively minor wank. [info]slythwolf seems to be on a crusade to enlighten us all about teh gay. There's even one part where I did a 'wtf' when [info]baylaurel said:
"Well, you know, I've never had my father tell me otherwise, so he might be gay. Logic train? It flew past about five minutes ago. We missed it." [info]slythwolf replied with a: "...He might. A friend of mine at work has a gay dad, and she was in complete shock when he came out to her. (Thankfully, she got over that and they have a great relationship.)"
(I thought [info]baylaurel was being sarcastic there, so it strikes me as an odd response O.o)

As a bonus, our friend [info]edana_ni_emer from the Sages of Chaos wank reappears to misunderstand the OP.

At the end, [info]xtricks decides they're OMG SO REPRESSED FUCK YOU STRAIGHT PEOPLE.

[Bad username: clairvoyant_wank] has some good stuff once in a blue moon :)

Anyway, it's one of those situations. You know, one of those. One could jump in and get involved, but it'd be an absolutely wasted effort, what with all those shouting, screaming people talking over the top of you. I personally think that the believability of slashing previously un-gay characters depends on the individual character and their relationships with others. Mind you, some people can slash someone like Arthur Weasley and I reckon they can do what they like, although the idea of Arthur-porn does absolutely nothing for me, canon or no.

Heh I posted it because I thought I had to go out tonight. And I /knew/ it was going to explode in wank and couldn't watch it.

I go out /tomorrow/ night. *facepalm*

I hate this argument. I'm one of the biggest slashers to every slash a slashy thing, at least, that I know.

We have the 'OMG. REPRESSED.' representing for their side and the 'OMG. WHO SAYS IT ISN'T CANON?' representing for their side. What I haven't -actually- seen, despite accusations of it, is the people who say, 'GAY SUCKS YOU ALL GO TO HELL.'

I can't stand it when fangirls (or boys, let's be fair.) take characters and RAMPANTLY abuse their characterization all in the name of hotgaysex. You want to have hotgaysex? Okay. Make me believe it. Show me some real development. Keep it IC.

But if you turn, oh, say, the Wolvies of this world (given that we're talking about spandexed people.) into whimpering ukes, I reserve ALL rights to mock you.

It isn't the gay that's bad. It's the sucky characterization.

Debates like this remind me of how my SO laughs and laughs when I talk about bad characterization in fanfic. "You're making it all up! None of it's canon! Who the fuck cares?"

And then I try to explain why we do and get nowhere because of course, on some level, he's right.

Wolverine = The Het-est Het Guy since Het came to Het-town.

And the term uke makes me think of very small cucumbers.

Because I'm wrong in the head.

As for the Wank, I was totally a little asshole, being all Mr. Knee Jerk Wankmonger. Flame on!

Considering that Wolverine was created as a bisexual (yes, the guy that invented him is on record as saying so), bashing someone that has him sleeping with men is idiotic.

I love that he'll sleep with a guy and still be the total male archetype - it reminds me of a lot of gay and bi men.

There's even one part where I did a 'wtf' when baylaurel said:
"Well, you know, I've never had my father tell me otherwise, so he might be gay. Logic train? It flew past about five minutes ago. We missed it." slythwolf replied with a: "...He might. A friend of mine at work has a gay dad, and she was in complete shock when he came out to her. (Thankfully, she got over that and they have a great relationship.)"

I suppose that as a queerspawn comic fan who didn't know until she was 12 that her Dad was gay, I should have something to say to that weird little exchange, but I just keep going "HUH?"

Wow. Thought I'd be wanked for the hogwarts_sorting business, but not for this. I guess I don't get to try to defend myself; I've seen what happens to those sorts of people on f_w. I really don't understand what it was that I said that was so illogical, or why exactly people seemed to think I was freaking out, when I was just trying to make a point (one that gets made in slash fanfic circles on a semi-regular basis), but I suppose if I was the kind of person who sat down and shut up and didn't rock the boat, well, maybe I wouldn't get flamed as often, but I think I'd feel like a little bit of a wuss, so perhaps I'm better as I am.

Much love,

You know, it's stuff like this that makes me (a straight female) feel like I'm somehow in the minority.

Not everybody is bisexual, people! Some people ARE honest-to-gods straight, just the way some people are truly and completely gay.

And for the record, all of the bisexuals I know have a preference for one gender over the other.

If a character has been depicted as only having relationships with members of the opposite sex, then I hate to burst everyone's bubble but they're most likely straight. If you're going to slash them, then give me a damn good reason WHY, and for the love of God, DON'T turn them into weepy ukes.

Before anyone says anything, yes, I'm straight. I have friends who are straight, gay, bi, transsexual and asexual. I enjoy reading yaoi and yuri every bit as much as I do het. What I DON'T like is people who assume that you're a homophobe because you don't like badly-written yaoi or yuri. It has nothing to do with t3h gay-- if you butcher a character's personality for whatever reason, I'm going to complain. I'd complain if you did it in a het relationship.

The thing is, even real people are weird about sex in ways they aren't weird about other stuff. If someone came up to me and told me that I guy I know and respect kicked a puppy for no reason, I wouldn't believe them. If they told me a guy who had girlfriends all his life liked a guy, I'd be all "Yeah, people will do that." Even if he knew lots of gay people before and seemed secure etc.

(I include my dad in that statment, though admittedly I don't anticipate that happening.)

Man. That reminds me so much of the discussion on "thou shalt not rape canon in RPs" that spawned this icon.

And why does everyone forget us bisexuals? No one loves us anymore. Come on, folks. It's not ALL black and white, gay and straight. You can have a girlfriend and later get a boyfriend.

I'll agree with darksunlight on just one point - they do kinda show sex in comics. From what I can remember off the top of my head, we have seen definite signs of Nightcrawler, Kraven the Hunter, Nightwing, Wolverine, Cyclops and Gambit having sex with female people. I just don't see that as proof that they'll never ever in a million years have sex with a man (and nobody's gonna convince me that Dick Grayson and Gambit aren't bi).

Frankly, if I can accept that a man who can shoot laser force-beams out of his eyes without shooting backwards or melting his brain fathered a time-travelling cyborg messiah, I'm not going to be hard-pressed to accept that his sexual orientation might be a liiiittle bit flexible.
