At

lordoftherings over on LJ, someone posted a message reading, simply, "BUSH IS SAURON! SAVE THE SHIRE!" Wankiness ensued, ranging from "How many times do I have to tell you, dammit - LotR shouldn't be compared to current events!" to "This is off-topic! Go away!" to "I want to keep my head buried in the sand, so how DARE you bring real life into this community!" Then someone made an entirely new post, as opposed to just replying in the comments, outlining exactly WHY Bush wasn't Sauron and why the phrase "save the Shire" was inaccurate.

They also put Godwin's Law into effect within five comments. That takes skill, man.

The moderator ended up deleting the posts because they were OT, all of two seconds after I posted here. (Not that I'm bitter. Oh, no, of course not.)
