Just as an FYI, Journalfen has a new TOS. You might want to read it over.

Very carefully.

Journalfen.net also reserves the right, without limitation, to resell any portion of a user’s Journalfen journal back to that individual;

Hostages!! They're taking our journals hostage! *flails*

...

I have no idea what that means.

This popped up in the LJ TOS when SA bought them. It means they reserve the right to sell an archiving/printing service in the future.

Likely under this one.

We can terminate anyone's account if we feel that user is a detriment to the journalfen community. We won't do it lightly, but we do retain the right. If termination is due to violation of terms of service, no refunds will be made if the account is a paid account.

Or maybe this one.

We reserve the right to refuse service to or terminate the account of any user or potential user whom we determine has been involved in fan community conflicts, past or present, in excess of what most communities deem usual. Termination may be for an indefinite period of time.

A look at his or her journal shows elfy was suspended for "verbal abuse of an admin". I'm guessing that included the part where s/he accused Robin of reading everybody's flocked journal entries.

In other words, [info]cosplayfucks managed to come up with a wanky post again thanks to someone finding a cosplayer so overweight that they decided to harass her about it over MSN. Oh, and dragged a friend into it as well to make it two-against-one. Not to mention managed to annoy the majority of the community...

Screw your Nigerian businessman, the daughter of Saddam frickin' Hussein wrote me offering a chance to get in on the deal of the century! Also, someone Vietnamese wants me to do something, but since I learned all my Vietnamese from war movies I don't know what it is. Unless they want me to play a very dangerous game of Russian roulette, in which case I'm good to go.

I think this is MY favorite part:

You agree that Journalfen.net, in its sole discretion, may terminate your journal or account, and remove and/or discard any content within the Service, for any reason . . . Paid accounts that are terminated will not be refunded . . . We reserve the right to refuse service to or terminate the account of any user or potential user whom we determine has been involved in fan community conflicts, past or present, in excess of what most communities deem usual.

Doesn't that include, like, everyone and everything associated with FW?

Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies or regulations of networks connected to the Service; Journalfen.net reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to terminate any user suspected of network abuse;

Hmmmm. I'm glad it's actually written into the TOS now that people can be banned for pissing Robin and Zorro off, whether they break TOS or not - this isn't an unusual clause (we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, basically), but after the whole fandom_love thing they were claiming that wasn't case, and I think it's good that it's laid out now. Not making the site owners angry lays out a very different code of conduct than merely following TOS, and I think it's a good thing that people who use JF know that.

Abusing the server... I wish there was a bit more detail, because that's really vague. Did fandom_love count as abusing the server? Crystalwank was a smallish wank that blew up in a way no one could have expected... does that count as abusing the server? Lord, does acknowledging that the server crashes frequently count as abusing it?

Finally, it looks as if wank communities are now specifically banned by TOS, so I'm really unsure how that works regarding FW or any of the spinoff communties.

We need to start planing for an exodus. NOW. JF has turned unfriendly to FW.

Might I suggest going to a self-hosted, Slash based system in which everyone has mod powers? It'd help get the trolling under some control.

We could even set up the entire F_W system there and have our own, more friendly TOS.

Mark my words: next time the servers go down, F_W will be TOSed from JournalFen.

But what I fail to understand is whether even in the event of the new TOS changes affecting f_w critically, the community can or can't be moved. By all rights, should there be major changes to the code under which we've activated for so long, shouldn't the f_w mods be inquired whether they still want to continue with this service here? After all, these wouldn't be the same conditions under which they signed up for the community to be hosted, things will have changed...

...am I making any sense at all? Probably not. *le sigh*

Any a how, if people decide to move f_w to a forum base, give me a sign of sorts. I know some network programming, perhaps I could help.
