"Write what I want you to, damnit!"
swift_wind has a complaint:

Hey fanbrats!

If you are going to write a really long story with lots of chapters then you need to stick with it. Stop writing side stories and stories for other fandoms before you finish the one you are writing. It makes you look really stupid and shows all you want is a quick review fix to boost you're already inflated egos.

Elite Suikoden fanficcers I'm looking at YOU.
The first one to guess what community she posted it in and how many "bitch, please" comments there are wins. No cheating and looking at the link first!

(reposted cuz I'm stupid and posted before I was done. Also, JF does that funky-fun delete thingy now, too? *squee!*)

What if we're actively participating in conversations? Can we still guess? >D

I'm actually honestly wondering if this person has ever wrote "a really long story with lots of chapters" before. And if hesheit has and managed to do it without burning out and taking a break to write a few unrelated things? I'm not sure what I do, but I do something, cuz that's amazing.

But maybe in herhisits world writer's block doesn't exist except in bad writers. ;-)

Okay. Not understanding the rage in the replies here, but then my default setting is 'don't post WIPs'. Because, really, if you post unfinished works that take months to complete, maybe, just maybe, you should have finished them or as near as damn it before you started posting?

Ooops. There I go wanking all over the furniture again, and it does stain so.

Dear She-Ra,

Perhaps in the future you should keep your horse away from the DSL line. It's not hard to set a network password, and failing that, I'm fairly certain that the clacking of hooves against the keyboard is a real tip-off as to Little Mr. Opinion's whereabouts.

Rein it in, lady.

Yeah, many WIPers are pretty much review whores with spotty track records of story completion, I agree. The secret is, don't read a WIP if these characteristics bug you. It's just that simple.

sadly. I am guilty of this on a grand scale. I have no excuse but laziness for my two huge fics that people are WAITING for updates on.

But the other thing is this. I have a Pitch Black fic that's only four chapters, and that's all it was meant to be. And people email me asking for more. "RITE MOR PLEZZZZZZ!!111o1on1" "there is no more" 'WHATTTT???A?A?A"

Sometimes it ends where it's supposed to end. Stories don't go on indefinitely.

People take fan fiction way too seriously. What the hell?

For me, fic is a hobby, done in my spare time - though yes, I do try to do as good a job as I possibly can (hence, this is not quite as dramatic a statement as someone who cannot write worth terds whining "it's just fan fic!"). There is no money being made, that is for certain, and while I can appreciate not leaving someone hanging, real life happens. As does writer's block and any number of things. I could just churn out crap to be "finished" with it all but I think that's a worse "sin" than walking away from a major WiP for a while when burn-out or whatever occurs.

No matter what, the bottom line and the golden rule is indeed "don't like, don't read". Won't hurt my feelings any.

P.S. If switching gears while letting one idea marinade in the brain stew a little is review whoring, I've failed MISERABLY. One has to get reviews for this to happen, no? Just checking.

Well, I can see the OP's point to some extent, but the way they put it is a bit obnoxious.

I'm an editor for a p'n'p fanclub and I won't accept long multi-part stories unless they are completed in first draft. There are too many folks who start major projects in the gropu and then abandon them midway or near the end and if we invest in printing the stories as they're being written, it can become rather crazy and confusing if they suddenly stop in the middle.

However, this also means the writers can take however long they want to write the first draft, we just won't print it until it's finished in at least first draft (and we will print parts as they are edited and refined).

And I personally refuse to post any of my fics as I write them. I finish the thing in first draft first, then bring them up to snuff in the next few drafts and then print them in parts. It's much easier that way. I've done it once, and that was just a really lucky story. I'm not comfortable doing the WIP thing.
