Attack of the Anzu-Bashing Serial Adders!
Would have been posted sooner, but was only recently called to my attention.

Somebody professing to hate Mazaki Anzu from Yu-Gi-Oh! makes a journal called [info]anzu_is_a_ho and proceeds to add everyone from the pro_anzu fans comm to her (I'm thinking it's got to be a her, at least) flist.

She has this to say in her first post:


I hate Anzu.

It's not just that she gets in the way of Yugi x Yami or anything because she actually doesn't though fanbrats think she does because they want to be her and have Yugi or Yami or whoever.

It's just that she's a hypocritical skank who preaches friendship then manipulates people.


The people who have been added to her flist respond. Some call troll and others argue with her about Anzu (at which point the troll tells them to go fuck themselves). Still more of them ask to be removed from her flist.

There was another post in which the troll made fun of them for "getting worked up" but apparently it's been deleted.

Am I weird for not seeing the big deal about being friended by someone you don't like? Just lock your posts or something if it makes you feel better. It's not like I'm going to check your userinfo and go, "OMG SUCHANDSUCH HAS YOU AS A FRIEND I CAN NEVER SPEAK TO YOU AGAIN EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE NOT ADDED THEM BACK". I had someone friend me once who I didn't know, but I ignored it, never commented in their journal, and they removed me after a month. Turned out to be one of those troll journals just like this (albeit much, much weirder), complete with people going apeshit because someone had friended them.

Even if they friend you, they can't see anythign you've locked unless youa dd them back, so I don't see why the fuss. It's not like someone's going to look at the list of friends in the userinfo and assume they're your bestest bud or something. well, ok, I know there are people out there who will do that, but I do my best not to think about them.

I got slightly weirded out when I was friended by a journal that had no posts, no userinfo, and *only* me on its friends list, but after a few minutes of "what?" I got on with my life.

A year or so later, they defriended me and friended someone else. Yes, just one other person.

It's peculiar, but I didn't lose any sleep over it.

Okay, where do people get the idea that Anzu's the only one making friendship speeches? Because not only is she not the only one, she does considerably less speechifying - friendship-related and otherwise - than quite a few other characters. (And unlike, say, Yami "Blah blah blah friendship blah blah blah heart of the cards blah blah blah STFU Kaiba" Yuugi, she actually shuts up once in awhile.)

As for Anzu being a skank, well... if having a crush on ONE boy is skanky, I'd hate to think about what the OP considers pure and chaste. Having a hysterectomy before you hit puberty, perhaps?

...Okay, I think I'm done wanking now. *wipes self off*

I agree with you about Anzu (*is a huge Anzu fan*), but I think both sides lose in this one. I think the OP's opinions are unfounded and idiotic, but I think a lot of the people complaining and asking to be unfriended are being almost as bad, since I don't think the troll ever posted any of her opinions anywhere but her journal and I don't see what the big deal about being friended by someone you don't like is. Just ban_set them and get on with your life, for crying out. The OP, I think, wanted to get a rise out of people and they gave it to her/him/it.

All I did was ask her to remove me from her friends list. I can understand that it means nothing or does nothing to me just because she's there, but her name alone is proof she's trying to rile people up, and I just wish to have no part in that. I see nothing wrong in wanting nothing to do with her little game.

And if she doesn't remove me, fine; that was her option--I'll live. I just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

By the way, your icon has been highly amusing me. <3

Oh, I don't think everyone who asked to be removed is being wanky. But some people were throwing these huge 3-paragraph tempter tantrums and having conniptions over not being removed, and that...strikes me as a bit excessive. It's kind of different than just asking.

Though personally, I think, as long as you don't respond to her or give her the rise she wants, you DON'T have anything to do with it.

Oddly enough, I have to agree with the troll, though not in such strong words. Anzu is highly manipulative when she wants something from her friends. However, she usually has their best interests in heart, which brings meaning into the whole "Road to hell is paved with good intentions" schtick.

Hmm...rhetorical question, I know, but...maybe? I mean, YGO fandom tends to be full of a lot of drama queens to begin with. I think that if the troll wasn't a serial adder, but a poster in one of the communities, they would've had a better chance of not raising a stink.

S/h/it would have spawned the same reactions. Because Anzu fans (me included) *are* very protective of her. Mostly for the bashing and the personal attacks that Anzu bashers unleash on us.

Yes, I adore Anzu. Yes, she's my favorite character of YGO! Yes, she's not perfect and I know it. And yes, I can understand that no one will like the same characters I do, since I myself loathe Kaiba.

No, I don't take it kindly when people yell at me that I'm an idiot and a slut because I prefer Anzu to Kaiba, like it has happened to me before.

But see, I myself am a huge Anzu fan. Although I like both Anzu and Kaiba, I prefer Anzu, as she's my favorite character.

But although I am slightly annoyed when I see people calling her a "ho" or a "slut" or other obviously untrue things, I don't feel the need to argue with everyone who crticises her as long as they don't personally attack the fans. Or sometimes even when they do, when it looks like an argument is really what they're trying to start.

So I'm wondering, if this person had said nothing about Anzu's fans themselves, and had left out the "ho" and "slut" stuff, would they *really* still have garnered as strong a reaction as they did? Obviously, there still would have been A reaction. I'm just wondering if it would have been this intense.

Hmmmm...

As I said, I think there would've been very strong reactions *without* the "ho" calls. At this rate, "ho" is pretty much a random insult thrown at girls/women/ladies for the hell of it, so if it wasn't included the others wouldn't care. What counts is the intention, and the intention of the troll were to cause a raise... and s/h/it did it. XD

Ah, the wonderful thing that "ban_set" is. I immediately blocked him/her/it as soon as I had notice of his/her/it existance. And even laughed about it for the kicks in my LJ. :P

Someone who has a problem with friendship speeches shouldn't be reading Shonen Jump titles. If I were them I would just ignore this troll and find a community more worthwhile, like Let_Honda_Do_Something.

Honda is useful when one of the guys is passed out and you need someone to carry them. And for that duel ex machina when he gave that card to Jonouchi during Duelist Kingdom, but otherwise... he's just sort of... there.

Well, he DID place that card that was pretty much the key for Shizuka and Otogi's common victory in the Noa arc before he was whisped away by the robot guy and had his body siwtched with the one of the robot baby monkey while the evil guys used his' to duel, so...

I like Honda and the HondaxShizukaxOtogi OT3. Poor guy, he deserves more screentime.

Someone like that shouldn't read ANY shounen manga, period. The MAIN themes of any shounen are friendship and teamwork, after all...
