Harry Potter: Only Begun. The Shipping Wars Have.
Two days till canon. Tempers are running high. Spoilers everywhere. The masses of shippers lurch towards each other, broken beer bottles in hand.

I'll lay my cards on the table. I'm an R/Hr shipper. I usually try to be a nice and fair shipper, but my evil side took over, and I really am enjoying the whole war. I feel somewhat ashamed of myself. I'll note, though, that I'm not part of it.

A fandomer by the name of Ginny Weasley posts one of the most caustic shipping essays I've ever seen Symbolic Flight. It's brutal. It's nasty. It's bitchy. Read at your own peril. Its declared intent? This is an essay that has been written in response to any H/Hr shipper out there who has felt the need to slander J.K. Rowling after she has given quotes that discredit any remote chance that H/Hr stood in canon.

The comments explode. Blood everywhere.

Am I the only one who just doesn't care anymore? Yes, I kind of like H/Hr. I kind of like a lot of pairings. But I don't care if it's canon or not. I don't see what the big deal is. Am I broken?

Jesus, her "thank you" note before the essay suggests she had four people look over this before she posted it... and nobody noticed she needed to change "Even Harry himself doesn’t take the notion of something going on romantically between he and Hermione seriously"?

I don't know why that particular mistake always bothers me so much. It made me wince even before I got to the part where she denigrated the Harmonians' grammar, and it bothered me more than her other mistakes (like using "compliments" for "complements").

Also, I'm ready to smack her around for her views on promiscuity (the section on these views heads up Part 2 of the essay). So it's only weak, dependent young women with poor father figures, desperate for any kind of male affection, that "exude 'slutty' behavior"?

You know, some people, even strong, independent young women, just enjoy having sex. I'm tempted to suggest the essayist try seeing what they're all talking about; it should help her unclench. I see the overall point she was making in that section of the essay, and I even agree with it, but this philosophy undergirding it seems even wankier to me than the existence of the essay itself.

Just because I prefer a 'ship that's not likely to happen (oh, look, I'm not a deluded fangirl who hasn't read the books!), that doesn't mean it's wrong.

Amused? Admittedly, I am amused. Quite like I am when I see a person trip and fall in public. It's sad to see, but you can't help laughing at the ridiculousness of it. You feel bad, but you can’t help but laugh at how utterly ridiculous they look.

Those last two sentences are the same, right? Like the post wasn't long enough?
