"You do know that 'fictional' means not real, right?"
Ah, Smallville wank. Just what we need on a muggy summer day...

Every year, Amy Amatangelo of Zap2it offers an alternative to the Emmy awards called, oddly enough, the Amy Awards. Categories include "Nobody Loves Me, or Most Underused Character" and " I Wouldn't Buy That If It Was on Sale, or Worst Story line or Plot Twist." This year, the following characters were picked (by reader submissions) for the "I Don't Love to Hate You, I Just Hate You or Worst Character" category.
a. Audrey on "24"
b. Lana on "Smallville"
c. Marissa on "The O.C."
d. Shannon on "Lost"
e. Zach on "Desperate Housewives"
Well, this won't do. Lana fans immediately start whining in the Zap2it forums.
Good God...just admit you hate her because she has beauty and brains and get it over with. It's been 4 years and you guys still haven't grown up.

You put so much effort into getting her on this list, you probably talk 24/7 about her. That makes me laugh my ass of because you sure spend a lot of time on a character you hate so much.

You don't like the character than move on. But you don't stop there cause Lana hate=Kristin hate. You don't even know Kristin so it's really low to bash her.

You guys seriously need a life really bad. Leave that dark chamber you call home and go outside. I promise it's worth it.
Ballpointpen explains his/her reasons for disliking Lana.
Of course, she has her good points. When she was happy, like the beginning of Spirit, or when she was with Jason in the first few episodes, I thought she might have a chance, but no; they dragged her character out into what she is today, and I feel I don't have to mention that again.

As for the "bashing" we do? Yeah, I guess sometimes we do a little, but not nearly as much as you all bash Lois. It's sad- you can't seem to understand that it WILL be Lois and Clark, not Lana and Clark. If they would make Lana a happy character again, though, I would like her. That's one thing I love about Lois so much- she's sarcastic, yes, but she's happy. Or, at least, she doesn't flaunt her "issues".

I like Kristin. Just because we don't like Lana doesn't mean we don't like KK. I happen to think Kristin is a pretty good actress, and I really like her. She's very nice, as far as I can tell, and she's talented. I would never bash her, or any other actor or actress. I find that low- but then again, you say I bash her? No, I don't. Even so, I know those who love Lana bash Erica all the time. THAT'S low.

You're saying get over it already? You're hanging on to a dream that will never be, and you're saying WE gave up? That's pathetic, I'm sorry.
Superixen chimes in:
I nominated Lana in this thread for the single reason that in an effort to prop up the non-dynamic character and to make her count in the series, the writers were "inspired" to come up with a poorly executed season arc focusing on the small of her back. In essence, yeah, the writing sucks. But it has sucked for this character ever since season two. The writing has effectively taken the character beyond redemption in my opinion.

Lana is a character I hate most on tv today; the integrity of the other characters and the entire story of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor have been sacrificed at the altar of Everyone Must Love Lana.
An anonymous Lana fan asks, "or maybe you just suck. Do u mind giving reasons for her 'annoying' factor, or do u not have any?" [sic] RoscoPColtrane offers his/her analysis:
If she was all that good of a character, wouldn't everyone like her?

I'd like to see a reason people should like her that doesn't include the words "pretty" or "jealous."

Here's a reason: She's hypocritical. One week she's about to kiss Clark, the next she's like "You still haven't forgiven Whitney." That was strike one against Lana. Instead of being happy with Clark, she starts on him with the "secrets" crap.

If they'd give the character some redeeming qualities again... like helping people, letting things Not Always Be About Her... that's great. But whenever anyone talks about themselves, she turns it back to being about her, and that's just annoying.

The Lana character would be best in the periphery... the character that Clark wishes for, but doesn't get. Kristin did a very good job with that initially, too. But being told You Must Love Lana constantly is part of why people don't react well to her. I mean, look at the music selections. "She Will Be Loved," we are told. "Everything she does is beautiful." Okay, okay, we get it, she's pretty.

It doesn't come out of jealousy, though. It's mostly out of annoyance.

The Lana character should still be redeemable. I think Kristin is capable. But I can totally understand why people don't like her. But I also find it horribly inappropriate and immature that people say "you suck" if people disagree with you. Fact of the matter is, though, Lana did land in the top five nominations for this site, so enough people dislike her. If you all dislike, say, Lois, you should have spoken up.
Krissy points out, "But seriously everyone has the right to like or dislike a TV CHARACTER. So the least you can do is respect that, rather than being shocked and defensive that not everyone agree's that Lana, or Lois is the greatest character."

Things die down. For a while. People attempt to talk about the characters and not bash the actresses who play them. Then DevotedToClana shows up.
WHAT????

Lana Lang nominated for most hated character?? WHAT!!!

How can a sane person nominate her?? God.. Jesus Christ!

I guess.. Bill Gates was right.. "Internet is the HOME of NEGATIVITY".

Too bad.. people are so jealous..

Lois should've been on that list.. *Grandma Durance*
Ballpointpen takes up the fight.
Take a look. We're not jealous of Lana or KK. However, with you always bringing it up, and bringing up Lois and ED the way you do, it would be easy to say YOU are jealous. Read the comics, learn the mythos. Lana is not going to be with Clark, not in that way. Even in the comics, Lana was the one who loved Clark, but Clark thought of Lana as a sister, almost. He loved her, yes, but in a different way.

I'm not being all 'high and mighty', either. I'm stating a fact. And that's not why I don't like Lana. I'm not jealous. I'm not intimidated. I'm not any of that stuff you make up about me or any other Cloiser or Chlarker. We actually have a life, and we believe what we want, just like you. Go ahead and believe that Clark and Lana will be together if you wish, but don't run around saying it. It's not true, and we all know it. If anyone's jealous, it's you.

I don't mean to be calling names, but look at the way this thread has gone. Some of us have been trying to be calm and rational about our opinions. Then you and a few other Lana lovers (I'm not saying all- like I said, my best friend is Clana, and I love her to death, and respect her decision) come in here and start pointing fingers and making things up, about us, about the characters, about the actors. Seriously, get a life. Surely your life doesn't revolve around your made-up fantasy world, does it?

I think it's fine to put out your own opinion, if you do it maturely. The way you're acting, a two-year-old would be your baby-sitter.

No offense, but seriously. Grow up
DevotedToClana strikes back.
Firstly get your facts right!

This isnt the comics .. even AL and Miles have said it.. This isnt the LOIS LANE from the comics.. and neither is this the Lana from the comics..

Clark and Lana will be together this season.. They will be romantically involved and they will loose their Virginity to each other.. and we're gonna make sure that happens.

You watch !

And God willing Lois Lane will be hit by a meteor.
How are they going to "make" that happen? Because I'm sure the producers of a TV show take suggestions and demands from people who don't bother to use apostrophes and choose to capitalize the word virginity.

There's plenty more, with tons of Chloe bashing and how "evil" she and Lois are in comparison with the preternaturally perfect Lana Lang. Oh, and a supporter of "Operation Picnic Under the Oak Tree - Campaign To Save Clana Before it's Too Late" offers this gem:
lana duznt take up screentime, shes the main female character! if you would maybe look passed the surface you'll see that lana has heart and substance. if you wanna go into wasted screentime, look to lois. shes not even cast and she spent more time TRYING to be funny on my TV screen than pete did.
Don't mind me. I'll be in the corner looking at pictures of Tom Welling. Mmmm... pretty.
