That's what we need! A holiday! That'll make everything better!
Yes. "International Day of Slash".

The brainchild of Matthew Time.

It has recently come to my attention that though the slash genre is already decades old there is no fandom-recognized holiday. It would be beneficial to the community to have a day in recognition of our peculiar fandom, and thus was born...

July 1st, International Day of Slash

It's a very personal holiday - a chance to write, illustrate, and send greetings to one other within the community.

It will help unite us.

Yes, because it's so remarkably easy to get fandom to agree on anything.

What kills me is that people actually think this is a good idea.

Who wants to suggest the holiday to Hallmark?

I particularly like that it's already a holiday.

To hell with celebrating the birthday of a country that just legalized same-sex marriage! It's time to celebrate writing fanfiction about same-sex relationships that have no bearing in the outside world!

I'm sure people will find that to be a wonderful coincidence.

Kindly suggest to Matthew to move Slash Day to the 4th of July instead.;)

Canada vs. Slash Fandom... who will (literally) win the day?

I know that this will most likely be forgotten almost as soon as it started, but would it have killed this guy to make sure that his ego-boosting aid stroke of genius was a bit better researched?

"Canada vs. Slash Fandom... who will (literally) win the day?"

I think the more important question is, "When will Slash Fandom blame, and thus declare a war on, Canada?" This, of course, after the Terrance/Phillip pairing officially "jumps the shark".

I don't see the conflict between Slash Day and Canada Day.

Ontario/Nova Scotia is my OTP.

Silly fanboy. Doesn't he realize that June is already yaoi month?

I don't think declaring an international slash day is anywhere near as wanky as being a girl pretending to be a guy after *admitting* she's a girl. Matthew Time is a great author, imo, but she's been wanky from the beginning.

Matthew Time is a girl?! LOL! So much for my one example of "Here's a guy who writes decent slash."

When she first posted her stories to the net I fb'd her and asked if she was a girl or a guy because she signed the stories as Matthew but her email said 'robyn' (I believe). She admitted she was a girl so I didn't think it was a big secret or anything. I've noticed, though, that all of her posts to her site and messageboards continue to perpetuate the myth that she's a guy. I just think that's wanky no matter how good of an author she is.

I was totally under the impression that MHT was a guy. People recommended him to me as an author as if he was a guy. Wanktastic!

I've only come across a few people who know she's a girl. I think she only admitted it to me because she was using the email address that she was. After I asked her about it she changed her email and that was it. Then she went into popslash and I didn't hear much about her anymore since I don't read it. But yeah, people who've rec'd her to me always assume she's a guy and I've always found it funny that she continues to keep that up. It doesn't detract from her writing, but it does make for a lot of laughing if you read her letters to the masses on her website.

Heh, I always assumed Matthew was a chick... too many crystal-clear examples of "boy writer" vs. "girl writer" on ye olde Nifty website. Including several females who pretended to be male or were coy about their first names.

Matthew Time, whatever the gender, has always been a shining light of wank.
