In ohnotheydidnt, secretivexhero feels the need to vent about the HP haters. The best part:

to all you dumbasses who dont get what i meant, what i mean is that EVERY SINGLE harry potter hater hasnt read the ENTIRE SERIES. what us hp fans are trying to tell you, is that the first book or two arent the best. theyre merely the beginning. the next few books are amazing, and you really WILL grow to be a fan. no one who read the entire series is a hater. soooo if you still dont get what i mean, try asking someone in here what i meant, cause seriously youre a dumbass if you dont get what i mean

Crazy fans scare me.

OMG! Haters! Oh noes! How could anyone ever fail to be a fan of such a well-written book with such stunning and complex characterizations, each character a delectable variation not purely black or white but a remarkably subtle blending of grey! My heart cries out to those who cannot comprehend the deep inner beauty of the work! Nay, this is not mere mass-marketed children's literature, but a fine bouqet of writing such as could only be found in the greatest and most esteemed of libraries. Yea, I say unto the haters, for shunning this remarkable work unto the firey depths with you, lest you be tempted to cast your withering scorn upon similarly fine arts such as the Mona Lisa and the works of the Bard himself!

Wrong. I flew through and loved books 1-3. Struggled with Book 4. OotP? I put it down one third of the way through and never looked back.

Gross generalizations on all sides need to keel over dead.

I would disagree that you should HAVE to read the whole fricken' series before passing judgement on it. If it doesn't interest me within the first few chapters of the first book, and there's no reason to think it will interest me more in future chapters, then, sorry, I'm putting it down. You can call me a h8ter all you want, but I figure it's the author's duty to suck me in, not my duty to put up with boring crap* because somebody I don't know says it will get better, really it will.

*haven't read HP, so this is a general statement.

God, people like this are just as bad as the ones who badger you about reading it. If someone doesn't like it, leave them alone. My brother doesn't like it. He tried to read the first book, got bored with it, and now rolls his eyes when my other brother and I discuss it. So what? It's not his thing, and nothing's going to change his mind.

On the other hand, sometimes I want to kick him in the shins because he calls us stupid for reading it. (shrug) You can't win 'em all.

Yes! Because, you know, no one has ever gone through a whole book/tv show/series of things and slowly begun to hate it over time.

:blink blink:

If anyone needs me I'll be over here, in this corner, thinking about Johnny Depp and watching summer reruns until the HP thing is over.

I wish I could remember where I read the quote, "The plural anecdote is not data."

Dude, just because some people slogged through a few books they didn't like to get to ones they did doesn't mean everyone will like them eventually. Or that everyone has the inclination to try. Pardon me if I have better things to do with my time than read several hundred pages of story to get to the part that you liked, and which I have no reason to actually believe I will.

It really amazes me that there are some people in the world who cannot seem to deal with the fact that someone out there somewhere is having a good time disliking what they like.

That's sad, because what she's trying to say under all those layers of spooge I can totally identify with. I mean, I tried to read the first book way back in the day, couldn't get past the first few chapters. Thought it was complete tripe. I only made myself get past the first half of the first book because I wanted to see more of Snape after the movie because I'm a total Alan Rickman whore. And lo and behold, I'm a total HP dork now.

But, uh, way to generalize. I've read through HBP, and I hate almost all the characters I'm supposed to like, including Harry. I harbored a deeper loathing for Sirius than I ever have for a literary character. So I can totally see where some people would hate the books as a whole; we're not talking Shakespeare here.
