Kuro5hin Wank of "Fuck Natalee Holloway"
Kuro5hin is an online "newspaper" that runs more like a blog. It has a rather significant following in the techie industry.

Anyway, one of the regulars posts an article called Fuck Natalee Holloway

The nutjobs come out en masse for this one, folks. The wank comes from camps cheering "get her bitch ass mother off TV" or "I'm a mother and you all are terrible people!"

The author of the offending article (which, incidently is now #1 on the google search for 'Natalee Holloway' no quotes) follows up with a second story in which he details the hate mail that has been flowing into his box.

And more wank ensues.

EDIT:
Yes, I realize that Natalee is/was a real person, but at this point she is a B-list celebrity, even in absence.

Why do I get the eerie feeling all that would have been avoided if he just hadn't used the word 'fuck' in the title?

Yep. I wonder if the title was written by someone else? I mean, otherwise he is very reasonable. Perhaps he was absent the day they taught the "If you want your writing to be taken seriously, inflammatory titles are not going to help you" in writing class.

People. Are. Stupid.

And totally miss the point. I especially hate pissedyoungmother.

But, still, why is this in f_wank instead of otf_wank?

Actually, it looks like the second story was written by someone different than the author of the original article.

I would also like to say that until now, I have never even heard of Natalee Holloway.

Lucky you. I assume you never watch cable TV news, then, because the author of the original article is dead on about the absurdity of the coverage.

I don't watch news at all. I'm also Canadian.

Okay, now I'm really jealous. ;-)

I swore off TV news years ago, but hubby's a channel-flipper.

Trying living in Mountain Brook, the suburb of Birmingham where Natalee is from. Yes, I have tremendous sympathy for the young girl's family and friends because what happened was a horrible tragedy but it is all. over. the. news. There was an African American female nurse kidnapped (well, I believe she's still determined to be "missing") either right before Natalee or right after and you *never* heard anything about it here.

Or anywhere you can pick up Fox 6.

I have heard stuff about the missing nurse and the missing assistant principal here but it is nowhere near the Natalee circle jerk.

White, blonde, perky college student who went missing while on a trip to Aruba. Her disappearance has garnered a disproportionate amount of national media coverage (in the U.S.). This year's much less interesting JonBonet.

Oh lord, the Dutch news was/is quite all over that, since Aruba is part of the Netherlands. I have no idea what was going on, just the government wa very embarrassed and it was bad for their reputation.

They shouldn't. Every time they interviewed Natalie's mother, (And they did everyday for the first 30 or so days) they picked the most scenic locations.

Eventually, I started forgetting about the kidnapping moved on to the Rove scandal. (Which is a lot more interesting to me than we found Hair-on-duct-tapeOMG.) But I want to go to Aruba now. The beaches were so purty.

I feel bad, because clearly Aruba's a pretty crime-free area.

The language you allow is very inappropriate and you give a bad name to the internet in general.

Yeah, now everyone's gonna think the internet's full of foul language, and that just wouldn't be true!

I love you, original article writer. You used coherent sentence structure, just enough snideness, and a little common sense.

Shut up, commenters.

Meh, as with most of these cases, I try not to pay too much attention. I'll admit, it's pretty annoying, however, and I agree with the original article writer for the most part. Look, there's lots of missing people out there that you never hear about. For example, in the area I used to live in, there's been a spate of abductions of U.S. citizens. Something like 37 people this year alone and only 14 or so have been found, with something like 2 or 3 found dead. Hell, there's even a site (www.laredosmissing.org) with a pretty extensive list. However, it may be mentioned on CNN in connection with all the border killings, but that's it.

Ahem. Didn't mean to sound like I'm pushing an agenda, it just tends to bug me. Honestly, I'm sort of glad that all these other cases aren't being advertised the hell out of on Fox or CNN... though I wish they'd leave all the other high profile case coverage to a minimum.

Natalee Holloway and her insane mother need to get the fuck off my TV. When the London bombings occured, CNN cut into that coverage to show Mommy of Natalee landblasting the Aruban authorities for "mishandling" the case.

Lady, you mishandled your precious daughter by sending her off on a party trip with a bunch of other kids.

Teenagers should never leave home, because they will be murdered. Letting them do anything other than go to school is pure negligence. NEGLIGENCE I SAY!

Uhh...when you send your pride and joy to a foriegn country to circumvent the drinking age, and she isn't smart enough to not get drunk alone in a bar at 2AM and accept a ride from strangers, then yes. She should stay at home.

(different anonymous) OOOOORRRRR.... we could argue that although she is certainly allowed to grieve, she does not deserve 15 minutes of fame merely to cry alligator tears (or even real ones, though I have a hard time taking any televised tears seriously) to direct blame away from herself, about a child who would probably still be alive had her mother a) kept a better eye on her, or b) taught her common sense.

Regardless, this story really didn't ever need to be on the news 24/7 in the first place. So I do think it is a valid response to say that interrupting current coverage of a many-multiple-homocide is completely unnecessary.

Agreed. I don't have a problem with 15 minutes of fame or an occasional news update when there, uh, some actual news about the case (not "Beth is on the island for the 16th day in a row! 16 is a perfect square yanno! And Joran has now reported that he prefers Dasani to Evian.)

I do have a problem with 8 weeks of this constant coverage. Do they expect someone to call in and say "Oh, I found Natalee! She was hiding behind my couch. I forgot to report this but then I saw your newscast again"? :/
