This is just... WTF. Congrats to the mousie on [info]wank_report for finding this gem of a wank.

From the mousie:

Found this gem on fanficrants, as posted by blackstronghold.

"But people with commissions sell their stuff!"

Found by a friend of mine, someone is attempting to sell her written works in specific fandoms.

...Poems are not worth 10 USD.

There's a rant here, about not the innards about the work, but the creator. And I'm sure you might figure it out without me explaining it.

In the actual post (of which I have a copy, should it be deleted), queenstrata discusses pricing ("Per one-shot and/or poem: $10.00 USD or 4 months paid lj time or 1 year extra icon space") and her attitude to plagiarism ("Do not try to swindle me out of money, and do not try to pass any of my work off as your own. Because when I find out you have, I will find a way to make sure you regret it. I am greedy, remember.") She also has this to say when told she might get into trouble for this whole earning money from fanfic thing and have to deal with ebil lawyers: "I shall kick their obnoxious blame-pointing arses if they bother me! *dramatic pose* Nobody makes an example out of me! I shall send them to Lawyer Hell and um... Okay, let's face it. I'm not good at stupid dramatic speeches. The point is, they're going to get more than they bargained for because I seem Sweet and Innocent, and Bloody Retarded to most people, so they won't expect whatever I throw at them. XD And I'll probably have people to back me up besides. (*poses again* I fight for True Justice, and the fannish way!)"

ETA: Bahleeted! But here's the original, as copied by our friend the Reporter Mouse.

ETA2:[info]queenstrata apologizes, because apparently the lawyers go after BNFs first. (Ok, everybody who has heard of [info]queenstrata before this wank, raise your hand!)
Also, in the apology thread, [info]vengefulwrath wanks about Fandom Wank being OMG meen to her friend.

ETA3: Shit, someone linked Goldberg's blog.

See that? That is one of the many, many things that gives fanfics a bad name. Someone needs to lay the smackdown on that chick, and quick, before someone like Lee Goldburg gets ahold of it.

"...because I seem [...] Bloody Retarded to most people..."

I think she's confusing the difference between "seem" and "am". Wrong one there, sweetheart!

Dude. Now I feel the extraordinarily immature need to get hold of one of her poems (WTF, $10 for a silly fanfic poem? psssh) so I can pass it around to everyone I know, post it on my LJ...

And again, $10 for one stinking fanfic? Who is she, Tennyson reborn?

Also, I can't take someone who ends every second sentence with 'XD' seriously. I wish that emoticon would die.

Does she actually think anyone's going to buy it? I mean my friend is selling what I think is a BRILLIANT work of original fiction online, and he sounds about a thousand times more realistic about expectations than this lady.

Man. This is going to be a big one, I think.

1) Smut/pr0n/whatever-you-call-it. I am incapable of doing such things even halfway decently, and it makes me uncomfortable besides. I probably won't even go past kissing much, unless it's absolutely necessary. Any time characters have sex/masturbate/what-have-you, I will pass right over it and leave it up to your imagination.
2) Drama/Horror/Mystery/Suspense. Frankly, this is too much work. All that...keeping secrets and whatnot, and deciding exactly when to let what bits of information out to interest you...yeah, not happening. And drama? Drama brings to mind livejournal and soaps. Not happening.

Then WTF do you write you crazy bitch?

From her userinfo:

Looks: 5' tall, exactly (in shoes). Extremely dark brown hair that's often mistaken for black; approximately two feet long and unable to decide whether it's curly, frizzy, or straight; usually worn down because it looks better that way; the hair, in the sunlight, occasionally turns a reddish-purple--this is perfectly natural. Also extremely dark brown eyes, with normal eyelashes and heavily plucked eyebrows.

My God, a fanfic-writing Mary Sue! It's so...paramasturbatory!

She can't have spent even five minutes really considering this. Quite apart from the legal issues, does she have any idea how hard it is to sell ORIGINAL, non-legally entangled poetry? Someone who's just starting out would be lucky to get two free contributor's copies, let alone actual money. Usually what you get is a form rejection because, let's face it, a lot of people think they can write poetry and even the tiniest, non-paying magazines get swamped with it.

"Apocalypse"
My smile was enough to melt your frozen heart
And return you to the Light.
It burnt you to ashes from the inside out,
And let you experience Love again.
My smile put the white back in your wings
And the blue back in your eyes—
You were an angel with me in heaven.
But only in my dreams, my dear.
Only in my dreams.

You got me in your flat, tempted me with lust,
And pulled me to the Dark.
I became everything I was meant to detest
And I Loved it all.
You managed to shade my wings with black,
And my eyes saw naught but blood—
I was a demon with you in hell.
But it wasn't quite what it seemed, my dear.
It wasn't quite what it seemed.

I'm sorry, my dear.
It was never meant to end up this way,
Though I knew it would.
Because I can never change what I was created for—
And did you ever truly realize I was an angel, my Love?
I am an Angel, my Love.

oh god. that was so beautiful. I think I'll spend some money on her poetry rather than that Pablo Neruda collection I've been eyeing. it's just too deep, too beautiful, too unique. "enough to melt your frozen heart"! wow! what a gorgeous metaphor, so inspiring and accurate and original!

Not only is she charging for fanfiction, but under the guise of fanfiction, she has posted the complete first two novels of the Harry Potter series online.

Fanfiction might exist in a legal gray area, but I know posting the entire book(s) word-for-word is extremely illegal.

Okay, this is even dumber than I first expected. How stupid is this girl, and how has she managed to survive this long? And the prices she's charging! For that price, I'd expect a masterpiece--except she apparently can't be bothered with writing something with an actual Plot.

She appears to be getting the stuffing kicked out of her in the comments, which is as it should be, but gee whiz . . . the money I could've gotten for OBAFU!

And dumb. Really, really dumb. I'm completely overwhelmed by the stupid.

Can this person be shunned by Fandom? Please?

She also does 'swaps.' Someone write her something awful, from one of the pairings she won't do, maybe.

Anyway, I'm too stubborn to go to jail. (Well, at least I like to say so.) And if they violate me, I shall violate back! And um...be immature! And cry. And they are not killing my publishing future, because DAMN will I not stand for that. *sulk* Society can shove their opinion up their metaphorical arse. I'll find a way around it, damnit.

No you won't.

Lawyers, *real* lawyers aren't going to give a shit about how 'cute' or 'stubborn' you are. They will take you to court and they will make you their bitch and I can assure you your LJ buddies won't help.

I'll bet that once the first subpoena comes in they'll bail on you like you were the kid who accidentally called the teacher 'Mom'.

She's fighting for the fannish way? I thought the fannish way involved many and varied "I'm not making any profit!" disclaimers and avoiding attention so that the dreaded cease and desist might never arrive. If the fannish way is $10 a story, I'm owed some back pay.

I am confused by something: people telling this person that her prices are too high because they are comparable to a real book, and real books include printing costs etc. This is all true, but real books are written with many readers in mind, not especially for one person. It's that specialness the fic-buyers would be paying for; and if the price really bothers them, they can always get together in a group and place commissions as that group, paying only a few cents each!

Of course, I personally would pay a few cents for this person *not* to write, but that is not relevant here.

For someone that is going on a mad money-making scheme, she sure has lots of pairings listed which she just won't write at all.

She won't write this, she won't write that, she won't write anything, really, especially not with Harry Potter.

Aw, man, bahleeted. But she does make a wanky, incoherent almost-sort-of-apology here, in which, among other things, she says:

What made my decision for me was when somebody said that they would go after the popular writers first--which, now I think about it, is exactly right.

Those nasty lawyers! They're just picking on her for being so popular!
