To Sue or not to Sue?
bad_rpers_suck and wank? Noooo, it couldn't be.

It all starts with criticism of an alternate-universe X-Men RPG application.

[info]holyprophetril reveals that it's actually his/her application. [info]fallenseraph calls the application THE BEST THING EVER OMG.

One of the application writers explains things.

[info]merryjest makes a few comments. [info]fallenseraph calls nitpicking. It turns into a big, wanky threesome further down.

'Construction of a memory-palace'? It doesn't count as a mutant power if it's something that someone in our world could reasonably (if unlikely-ly) do.

Well, the level of detail might be high enough that anyone without mutant power couldn't maintain it (without going insane anyway).

What bothered me was that Mr. Sockpuppet Allstate was clearly an expert on banking in the late Victorian period. I mean, it's still a weird plot point, but the "expert advice" was sort of odd.

Yeah, you know what rules gets you? A GM that has to look in the book for twenty minutes every time you propose something unusual, while you eat more brownies and make faces at him behind his back.

Of course, that may have just been the one I was in. ;-)

What she says:

But here's the funny thing: sometimes you may find that a character you've invested with more than what he or she required to be 'fleshed out' in that particular scenario takes a life of his/her own. If imbued with enough life, the character may eventually be the centerpiece of your next work of fiction- and this has happened to friends who weren't writers. Even if they have low expectations for your character, surpassing those expectations is a tribute to your own creativity and potential.

What I hear read:

wank wank wank i'mapatronizingass wank wank wank

How does "silly name" = "low expectations" exactly? Someone ought to tell Terry Pratchett about this....

Have to mock the OP's comments.

Hochdeutsch. Or, High German. Which, if I recall correctly, is used very rarely, if at all, by this period in time. Think Old English.

No. No!

Hochdeutsch is formal German. Like what is written in documents. It's the basis of what I am speaking everyday and it's what is taught at school.

Yup, that's what they told us we are learning at school (as foreigners). While I can't judge most of OP's points (from BRPS), I have to laugh that they find it strange that the character can speak four languages at fifteen.

It would be expected! Maybe not fluent Latin (but some of it), but English (family origin), German (place where he lives, at least 2 variants - dialect of the place and formal version; OK, Yiddish is strange, but that's also confirmed in the application), French (language of nobility). It would be actually perfectly common to add something like Italian for a kid that was interested in languages. Parents would demand much more learning than it's expected from today's brats, he would need & use that languages and also - private tutors; much better and easier than class of 30 (as it was in my case).

Not-at-all-exceptional-Mousy (not fluent but decent enough in 3 languages by 14, in 4 by 18; I'm not counting Latin that didn't left me with more than a few words - and that was all regular public education).

I have no idea what is funnier.. The application itself or the fact that some people have really no clue where they are talking about.

And as for Hochdeutsch.. That is nowadays a common name to indicate the german that is spoken by the majority of people aka the official language. The rest is often considered to be dialect.

This isn't very wanky, though, is it? This conversation could've taken place between 19th century Englishman over tea and biscuits. Or cookies, as you would call them if you weren't a fucking Commie.

Gaylord: I do say, some aspects of Chester's character app seem slightly incredulous, what? Four languges *mumblemumble* eleven, mmm, *mumblemumble*, seems a spot fishy.
Chester, suddenly appearing: I must disagree with that, sir, if you don't mind.
Reginald: Quite right, quite right. I knew *mumble mumble* six language *mumbling* when I was a lad.
Gaylord: Terribly sorry about that old chap, don't know what came over me. Fancy a spot of cricket?
Chester: Mmm, quite.
