OMFG where's the potterwank already? Surely there have been Order of the Pheonix-related deaths?

Sadly it seems fairly quiet still.

However you can take a gander at This HP fan who writes constantly in horrid netspeak. I'm assuming...nay, hoping..it's all some sort of joke. Oh, and..there's a picture there that's non work friendly.

I've seen a few "damn it, I just got spoiled by some stupid person who didn't pu5 in a cut," but none of it ever seems to develop into a flamewar and I haven't got the original link. Without that spoiling post, I assume the "goddamn it, you spoiled me!" is a legitimate, non-wanky complaint, especially when not a complaint against a specific person. Am somewhat saddened.

I suspect that the HP related mailing lists have a few flame wars brewing. Several people on my friends list have complained about spoilers in the subject header/without spoiler space, and on the lists with a great deal of younger especially, I can see that getting out of hand.

We can but hope. ^_^

oh, I know there's some of that around - I went trolling on alt.fan.harrypotter the other day looking for wank, and that's all I found. It was sad.

Spoilers may reside in these links - BEWARE!

I have seen a little wank on my travels around the fandom, there's the person who purposely spoiled The Death for everyone (read the comments, tres amusant.) And there's a few people getting snippy with each other. There was even some: "ha ha, Gryffindor Towers pairing is dead, DEATH TO H/G!" but I can't remember where I saw it.

Not a lot really, everyone's been pretty much (cut) tag happy. Patience sweety, we don't look for the wank, there's more than enough already.

I've seen a few LJ entries complaining about the depressing bleakness of OoTP and to implore JKR to 'think of the children'.

I'm not in HP fandom, but over at Godawful (always a prime source of wank), there's already been a call to arms against spoiler trolls who are "out to ruin everyone's fun."

I'd post, "Jesus Christ, if reading a spoiler's going to ruin the fun of the book, maybe you'd better go offline until you've read it," but that would be trolling. Besides, I figure there'll be enough wank soon enough that I shouldn't have to manufacture my own.

Well, some of the people over at the MS report got all huffy because someone posted the definition of metamorphmagi and said "expect Sues with this trait soon" without LJ-cut. While it didn't evolve into a flamewar, I was like "WTF?! THIS is considered a spoiler by you people?" at it. Jesus, it's not like she said who died. x_x

I guess it's a good thing I'm not an HP fan, so most of this flies over my head. I'll just sit here and laugh at all the people overreacting, thanks.

Best of all, they were reacting to something that we find out in a throwaway line on page 52 (Yes, I checked, but I happen to have the book next to me in the first place.) Nothing NEAR a major plot point, and something 10 or so minutes of reading will get you to ANYWAY.

I'm a member at the MS Report, and it IS admittedly a bit annoying whenever the accusations of canon MSes start flying. I'm surprised no one wanked the recent post where someone accused almost all the Disney females (particularly those of early Disney films) of being Sues for that, actually. Lately it hasn't been nearly as bad as that one time where pretty much everyone from Harry Potter and LotR was accused, but still...

ARGH, I can't seem to find it. I KNOW it was only a few days back, though. ><;;

I did, however, find this accusation of Allen Schezar of Escaflowne being a Gary Stu. yuuo/[info]unoriginality did a great job of explaining why he wasn't one, though.

*blushes!* Chee! Thanks. I do try to do my job. I nearly fouled it up with that typo that made it look like I was calling the poster Hitler. O.o Bu~ut... I think I got the point across- Allen is as much a Stu as I am a bellydancer. <--Marginally overweight, had surgery that left nasty scars on her, very very self-concious about showing off body-parts::

It's crazy in that report- it's a damned witch hunt anymore. Half a million posts each day, most of them not even in format, and the constant attack of ANY OC is just nuts. I left the community today because of it. Besides, most of the Sues reported anymore were LotR or Potter Sues anyway, neither of which is a fandom I follow. I'll join again in a couple days when SOME of the Harry Potter crap dies down. *sigh* Damnit, Allen is SO NOT A STU. If anyone in that show was a Sue character, it was Hitomi, and even SHE was better than a full-blown Sue.

...it's sad, but I wonder if that's what was the last straw with that community for me.

Yeah, glad I'm not the only one who found the screeching-clutching-the-pearls-and-fanning-oneself reaction amusing.

I don't know what the deal is. When I go on spoiler alert for something, I avoid areas of the internet dealing with said something. It's very simple. They can do without LJ for the few days it'll take to read the book if something so simple as a word will make them foam at the mouth.

Just give us a day or so. First the endless meta posts will arrive, people will discuss politely over them, then the ship posts will start, someone new will ask a stupid trivia question, old HP fanpeople will attack him for lack of canon knowledge, someone will shout about being mean to the newbies, the word plebe will show up and next thing you know we'll have the good ol' ship wars, with the added Snape/Harry material and the whiff of pedophilia.

*off to gloriously plagiarise anything in sight*

I found this post to be a pretty good indication of the wank to come. Especially this:

If I see one more post about how canon screwed up anyone's fics or how anyone's characterisation is more IC than JKR's, I'm defriending.

None of my LJ friends consider HP their primary fandom, so I haven't seen any instances of this, but I'm sure someone here should be able to dig up a few choice examples.

There's been a lot of whining on one of my mailing lists that JKR got a particular character OOC. I knew it was coming the minute I read the book, and I'm so glad to see the fangirls didn't let me down.

...not that I'm bitter that the character's popularity surged mostly because he's easy to pair with another character whose actor in the movies is very pretty, or anything. Because I'd never be that wanky. Oh no. ;)

My first JournalFen post! Woo! ... Blame Zanne.
Anyway, I have yet to ever finish a HP-fic, but I did start one before Order came out, set in the kids' fifth year. I do intend to keep working on it, and I'm certainly not going to bitch that Rowling screwed up my fic. I'm going to take the sane, rational approach and say that it goes alt-universe right after Goblet.
... Because as we all know, Hermione/Draco fics cannot be stopped by something like mere canon. MWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Noooo mommy, don't send me with the men in white coats! *kickflail!*

Oh, there's some out there. You just have to know where to find it. *cough*FAP*cough* and other places.

There have been some cries of: "How dare she kills that person! That person was my favorite!" and "Oh, the book was SOOOOO depressing!" and "Mary-Sue! Mary-Sue!"

I say give it a few days and it will really kick off.
