More AMV Wankage, Otakon Flavored
ANTDrakko announces the finalists for the Otakon AMV contest this coming weekend, because apparently the contest chair is a little too busy to do so. People aren't terribly pleased with the list, but things don't heat up until SkyShroud barges in with a blazing boner on page 3.

3 more pages of drama follow.

Highlights include Hackerzc's righteous indignation, and Trythil's banner that just pwnz everything.

But sadly, it's only a matter of time before the mods take away the lube lock it. So enjoy it while it grows.

I fail to see how saying what I really think in any way diminishes my authority or makes anyone look bad though.
To which jbone replies:
Dude, take a hint and shut up already before you make yourself (and the contest) look any stupider than you already have.

I know. She brings up a pretty good point, actually; there's only so long an AMV contest can go on before people's sore asses start getting the better of them. It's even worse when the room doesn't even have enough chairs, like MegaCon 2005. I wanted to strangle the contest coordinator with my half-asleep legs.

I wanted to strangle the presenter for the CN Anime 2003 (I think) Masquerade. He never stopped with the hitting on female cosplayers thing. Sure it was funny, maybe the first three times; but then it just got downright creepy.

*really delayed reaction* Gord's actually a really nice guy, and chances are he probably knew at least half of the people he was hitting on - he's friends with a lot of the con regulars.

Oooh, that makes a lot more sense now. At first I thought he was just being a bit sleazy, but then, that was my very first con, and I'd never seen him before. I had been wondering why someone hadn't told him off at that point, :O

You're welcome! ^^ He's been MCing cons for years, and probably attending them longer, so everyone either knows him or knows someone that knows him or has heard of him, provided they've attended a con or two.

I think that was the year about 20 of us took him out for dinner for his birthday, actually XD;

I don't remember quite well, but was he going to retire from MCing after that particular con?
I actually really can't remember much about the masquerade except for the experience of seeing the Imperial Army stomp down the aisles, the RO skit, and the Ayame cosplayer who gave the MC a kiss. Oh yes, and the dancing eye of Sauron.

XD, if it helps, that was the year Fred and Sara from MT had a panel at CN?

I vaguely remember that a Link cosplayer also saved a kitten that had been thrown out on the street, and a lot of the con-goers donated money for it's food.

Alas, I was the poorly done Baiken with brown hair. Nobody knew who the heck I was XD

The highlight for me was when someone started whining about all the "self-important" people who turn up at Otakon, not two lines after bitching about how "massive and commercial" the con has become. Pot, meet kettle much?

Sigh. Whatever Otakon is, it isn't commercial. I'm friends with this year's Treasurer (Hi, Jim!) and he sure isn't seeing any profit from it. Though I wouldn't blame him for stealing from the kitty for a Hair Club For Men subscription to replace what he's torn from his scalp this year.
