She ain't Katie, she's my daughter
Small and kinda old wank from first-time poster.. please no hurties! I looked around the archives here and on a few large Potter sites, but didn't found anything on it. And so, I present you...

When Katie Leung's name first appear on the net as Cho Chang's actress, this was the first picture of her available online. The picture was published by many media around the world, including Singapore's The New Paper in their article about Katie-hate on the internet.

Not long after, one Madam Lam Ping Fong called the newspaper's office, and insisted that the published picture was of her daughter Ho Hoi Ki, and not of the actress, citing it as "vicious games played by her former secondary school classmates". She wanted them to "straighten things out", so the New Paper reporters went and look for themselves.

'This is obviously her. The jaw and mouth are exactly alike, and she has the same clothes and cap,' Madam Lam said, as Hoi Ki nodded in agreement.

However, according to the reporters,

Oops. Hoi Ki didn't look like the girl in the photo we had published. Wearing a pair of white plastic spectacles, the reed-thin girl flashed a buck-toothed smile as Madam Lam ushered us in.

We pointed out further obvious differences: The actress had long hair, while Hoi Ki said her hair had always been short. The actress had pierced ears, and Hoi Ki didn't.

To which Madam Lam responded

'The vicious friends must have used a computer to add in all those things.'

If she was on the HP internet fandom, she'd fit right in, no?

What I don't get is why would you publish this in a paper? The reporter went out, looked at the story he was being presented, then decided oh this isn't really a story. And wrote about it? This like defines slow news day.

The New Paper is some kind of tabloid, so it often carries fringe news and sometimes gossip. But in Singapore, almost everyday is slow news day :P Even on TV news, sometimes you get things like neighborhood spat or the government's plan to improve the variety of menu in hawker centers.

Yeah, no points to the reporter. The paper may have been annoyed because Madam Lang Ping Fong was harassing them, but there was no excuse for making it public and dragging this poor kid in.

Also, 17 seems a touch young to have finished secondary school and lost touch with classmates. Are school leaving ages different in Singapore? If not, this smells of "Mom invented all the teasing and pulled her daughter out of school to 'protect' her."

Secondary school runs differently in Singapore. What we call secondary school actually goes up to 10th Grade and then kids take the Cambridge O-Levels to decide whether they go to Junior College (2 more years) or Polytechnic courses.

And OMG the stoopid in my country hurts.

What I love is how the newspapers keep talking about how Katie gets Harry's first kiss. Unless I'm missing something (and I may, as GoF is not my favourite book), doesn't Harry remain a lip-virgin until OotP? Which hasn't even begun filming yet? In fact, all we'll see of Cho in GoF is Harry asking her out, if they keep that plot thread in (and given that they're ditching the SPEW storyline, who the fuck knows what'll be going down in the flick). So ... why is everyone so worked up about something that won't materialize on screen for at least another year or two?

I hate this fandom, and I hate the newspapers for encouraging it.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the kiss has moved up a slot.

'This is obviously her. The jaw and mouth are exactly alike, and she has the same clothes and cap,'

Yes, it's completely unheard of for some people to have similar facial features, and no one, ever buys the same clothes, no matter how popular/fashionable they are.

So if you ever see anyone walking around with a dress or shirt just like yours, it is yours. They're your stalkers & they stole it from you.

Gwyneth Paltrow actually has made similar claims in the past, specifically in the now-infamous 2002 Vogue interview "Gwyneth: The Power of a Fashion Icon." Any girl with long blonde hair, knee-length skirt and knee-high camel-colored boots? Totally copying her.

Here in the Philippines, Chinese children are encouraged to marry within the Chinese population. It's not uncommon for people to have similar features. I used to pass by a Fil-Chinese friendship club to say hi to three identical looking guys, I'm Fil-Chinese, I went to a private Chinese school and I couldn't tell these three apart and they aren't closely related to one another!

I'd just like to say that The New Paper? Is a tabloid. Which is why the reporting is less than stellar.

The stupid. IT BURNS. If I could disown my country, I would.
