UPDATED!! - 9/20/05 - I Can NOT Believe It Either, Honey!!
Sueric takes on Fandom_Wank; only, not really... She also seems to miss the point of F_W. Somehow I'm not surprised...

(Note: The MM.org forums require one to be signed in to read this thread. Anyone with an e-mail can join, but knowing how much people hate effort to get to their laughs, I have duplicated the html here for all to see.) Edit: if this link is broken, go here to download the html of the page and open in your browser.

My very first wank! I’m so proud… Anyway, let’s get to it, shall we?

This wank begins on Fanfiction.net, where a fic was posted (that no one bothered to save) by a girl (that isn’t a member of FFN anymore). Luckily, Sueric eloquently laid out the facts for us to be horrified over in the Media Miner forums.

It’s an ass-kissing parade, until Angelica points out that building off of someone else’s plotline and characters is kind of the definition of fan fiction.

A bit of a controversy is born as the two duke out the difference between plagiarism and fan fiction. It is apparently decided that the difference between the two is the disclaimer at the beginning of the fic.

There is a bit more discussion between Angelica and Sueric's Legions of Terror. However, things seem to calm down until Sueric replies armed with a quote from Lady Macbeth (that I am SO beyond tempted to MST, mind you all), and explains to us all the true meaning of plagiarism…

Is anyone else worried that her explanation kind of matches Wikpedia.com’s definition of fan fiction?

After Sueric’s EMO!TEAR post, Vuirneen kindly points out the wisdom behind listening to others.

Naturally, Sueric quickly provides us with the message that inspired me to wank this corrects Vuirneen by reminding everyone that the situation is all about HER!

Then Fanilia steps in and locks the thread and subtly lets us all know that Angelica is going to be the cause of Sueric not writing anymore (What!? No Purity 18!? Damn…).

I suppose we should have known all along. The truth of the matter is that all fan fiction authors are plagiarists at heart.

Thank you, Sueric, for setting us all straight on the matter.

UPDATE: THE WANKAGE CONTINUES!

[info]agent_hyatt has provided a link to Inugirl-chan's FFN profile that I thought was lost...

Also, Sueric apparently DID have a not so private bitch!fest to her fans on her forum (thanks to [info]somnabulicious for pointing it out!). I think my favorite part is where Inuyoukaimama starts complaining about the horrible people who are all out to get Sueric.

Okay, so was there a short-lived cartoon that had a cyborg warrior named Lady Macbeth but everyone called her "Becky," or am I just crazy? She had a shaved head except for a topknot, and I think there was a talking Tyrannosaurus.

I like the way Sueric threatens to pull all of her fic if FFN doesn't boot the plagiarist ... I sympathize with her, but there's a good way and a wanky way to go about all of this.

I still think that plagiarizing fanfic, while obviously not illegal, is just Not Cricket. Same with the icon wank. So nobody's making money from it -- at least with fanfic, it's obvious that somebody else set it up and everyone knows who created it; a plagiarized fic gives credit to somebody who didn't do the work.

I will pull ALL my fics from this site, and as I am one of the most read fanfiction authors out there, you might be rather sorry for that.

Masturbatory FF.net-Writer Fantasy #106:

Somewhere, in the secret fortress of Fanfiction.net, a servant rushes to the throne room with horrifying news:

"Master Xing! Oh, Master Xing, it's terrible!"

"What's happened?! Have the servers melted down? Was there another lawsuit? Did somebody post a songfic? Tell me!"

"It's Sueric! She's pulled all her fanfics!"

"No, not that!!! Is this the end of ff.net? WHY, CRUEL WORLD, WHY???"

*Fortress explodes for no adequately explained reason, everybody dies*

The End.

You know, what you've done is probably one of THE most hurtful things that anyone has ever done to me

Ah yes... I can see how worshiping your fic enough to write their own about it would qualify as 'one of THE most hurtful things' in life.

"and the user number there is the same as the one on Inugirl-chan's bio ... meaning? FFNET HELPED HER CHANGE HER USER NAME ON THEIR SITE TO KEEP HER THERE INSTEAD OF BANNING HER FOR THE PLAGIARIST SHE IS ..."

Actually, I think it means Inugirl-chan clicked the nifty button that lets you change your user ID... But then again your conspiracy theory is far more entertaining.

Paraphrasing another person's works in whole or in part without some sort of legal disclaimer IS plagiarism.

Well, that blows like every single one of my term papers to Hell. And here I just thought of it as research...

What she did was to take the same story structure, the same familial bonds, and to use them in the same way, the same stuff, in her own craptastic way and with all but one of the character's names changed.

Sounds like fan fic to me...

I will also say that it is attitudes like yours that lead to these sorts of people being able to get away with the more abstract form of plagiarism.

In Angelica's shoes, I think I'd rather be accused of that than single-handedly bringing down the fan fiction world with my overblown ego.

Angelica: So then, I have to ask, in your mind is fan fiction plagiarism? Sueric: Actually, considering that *I* use disclaimers and post quite clearly that I own nothing, then no, it certainly is NOT plagiarism ... what this girl did? Yes, it was.

I like how Sueric seems to think that putting 'I don't own Inuyasha' at the top of her fics somehow puts her on an entirely different moral plain than her 'plagiarist'.

Sari-15: This was not 'ficcing a fanfic'

Actually, it really was. Just without the disclaimer.

I think you're being rather obtuse here, and you're really not getting the actual point:

Err... I think Sueric's the one being small-minded. Plagiarism is a bigger issue than just her but probably not as big as her ego. And by her definition, all fan fic is plagairism.

The girl in question
*Stole my plot
*Stole my characters
*Did this knowingly and willingly

And this is different from fan fic HOW!?

Do you really think I'm stupid?

As a matter of fact, yes.

Do you honestly think I'd get irritated over her using a name or the like?

Again I say: yes, because you're a Prima Donna BNF with an ego to match.

Disclaimers be damned, she plagiarized my story.

Am I the only one picturing her stomping around on the floor with her face scrunched up screaming like a two-year-old here?

The biggest thing that bothers me about your post in defense of this girl is that by doing so, not only have you condoned her and others to continue doing so, but you've also managed to make me feel as though *I* have done something wrong,

Okay, now I KNOW you're stupid. Angelica never defended the girl - she just called the atrocity what it was... Someone call Sueric a WHAAAAAAAAMBLUANCE!!!

This thread isn't here to justify writing fanfiction or not. It's here because I am entitled to be angry right now over the blatant theft of one of my stories that I have worked DAMN hard on creating. If you want to discuss the future of fanfiction, maybe you ought to do it in another forum or in another thread.

Okay, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't SHE the one that posted in the forum called 'arguments'. She didn't post in the pity me forum... If she just wanted sympathy she should have simply whined to her fans in private. And no one ever said she had no right to be angry. They just tried to correct her terminology to try to prevent people furthering a misconception...

I don't have an account, but I will sign my name to this. And Sueric, I hope you are tipped off to this thread and read it and actually think about it.

I'm going to be blunt. Your stories started out well, but when they became variations on the same theme using characters that are vague representations of their canon selves, then they weakened. Badly. The best thing you can do for your writing is to abandon the Purity saga and focus on your existing ideas - which are good ones. However, the stories are too long and lose their focus halfway into them. You need a good editor that doesn't fawn all over you and will actually help you make your writing better.

The biggest problem Sueric has is that she can't take criticism of any form. Notice how anything that starts to single out her stories gets locked down on MediaMiner. If you can't take the heat, you don't need to be writing fanfiction or engaging in any sort of online community. Period. She is also taking this way too seriously and has too much of an ego about it.

Part of Sueric's letter to FF.net was this:

If she is not banned, I will pull ALL my fics from this site, and as I am one of the most read fanfiction authors out there, you might be rather sorry for that.

I'm sorry, I would be embarassed to say that. I consider each reader of my stories to be someone precious, even if I don't always agree with their views. I write stories for myself and consider readers and feedback to be the icing on the cake. Sueric, apparently, gets a huge kick out of rubbing her popularity in other people's faces. I'm pretty sure the folks over at FF.net are laughing at her right now. There was a FF.net before Sueric and there will be one after her as well.

Sueric has gained a reputation for being mean to her reviewers, hard-headed and very sensitive to stuff that she should let roll off her back. She should had contacted the author privately, explained that she would like some credit and I'm sure the author would had complied.

I'll be honest, I am writing a story called "Shikon no Go" that is based off of Akai Kitsune's "Kendo no Go" because I thought that type of story would work well with Inuyasha characters. However, on each chapter, I do have it prominent that the story concept wasn't mine. It came from a novel which Akai Kitsune adapted. I even wrote her privately about it and she was flattered.

I'm sure that if Sueric had used the same approach with this author, they could had come to some sort of agreement rather than Sueric throwing a hissy fit that makes her seem younger than my 3-year-old nephew.

This is not the first I've heard about Sueric's childlike manners and I'm sure it won't be the last. And if you're reading this Sueric, you're suppose to be older than me. You're suppose to be responsible and mature and setting a good example and you're not. In situations like this, instead of taking stuff as a personal attack, try to resolve it politely. If that fails, then report it and let it go. You'll be much happier with yourself and the fandom in general if you just learn to walk away and not care so much what others think.

The ego trip, it burns.

Honestly, who does she think she is? That FF.net will quake with fear should she pull her stories... she assumes a great deal.
I'd like to think FF.net staff giggled when they thought of rabid Inuyasha groupies leaving, but that's a personal grudge (against rabid Inuyasha groupies and their ilk) rearing its ugly head.

Dear Sueric,

Takahashi Rumiko called: she wants her characters back. In tact. Without children. Or grandchildren. Or babies that came about using eye droppers.

What is with all the babies, anyway?

Much Love,

... Is it just me, or are these people incredibly dense. I mean, the girl said over and over again that she wasn't trying to say that the anger was unjustified, but that they should be careful with the use of the word Plagerism... and every just kept on missing the point.

That said, this whole thing seems rather stupid. Copying is bad, yes. But threating to take down all your work if someone isn't banned? That's just wrong.

I'm having a ball reading through Sueric's forum. This post has to be my favorite:

I have removed my own work from your site and am encouraging others to do the same as well. I would hate to think that this site could be forced to leave the Internet, but you have opened yourself up to such liability that I would not want my friends involved should some author become fed up and take legal action against you.

Those are some dedicated minions. (The poster of that comment is a "law school student," btw.)

Wow...just wow.

I was reading through Sueric's forum and just wow. Okay so this Inugirl reviews complimenting Sueric's story then says she is working on a similar story with different characters and even wants Sueric to read it once she is finished.

Automatically the girl is branded a plagerist. That is rich. Instead of keeping "tabs" on the girl, Sueric could have emailed the kid since it was a signed review. Anyway she could have emailed the girl and asked more in depth questions about the girl's story and tell her to make sure if she uses her ideas that she at least credit her for the ideas. But noooooo, she goes to her forums and sets the watch dogs on the poor kid. Jesus H. Christ! Just because someone uses a similar idea doesn't mean they are plagerizing! What a fucking moron, throwing a bitch fit over a little kid using her oh so "original ideas". Pfft! Sueric needs to find a mountain and get over it. I really don't like the way she automatically assumes plagerism before the story is even written. It's telling in a way, seriously it doesn't matter how Inugirl wrote her story in the end, Sueric was all set to call it plagerism from the beginning. The child was doomed. Basically the kid has been crushed by someone she admired and respected. Poor kid. She had no idea what she was getting into when she tried to emulate her idol.

Personally I have been accused of plagerism before and it was completely unfounded in the fact that only one element was alike in our stories but the plots to the stories were as different as night and day. So honestly I don't like it when people throw the plagerism word around so easily. Sueric needs to grow the fuck up and realize that she is NOT the center of the universe.

I just realized that under Sueric's grounds for fanfic fic, we're going to have to track down the first person who decided that 'marking' your mate in "Inuyasha" fandom was a cool thing to do. Cause damn, s/he's got a lot of fics out there that s/he needs credit for.

Same with the person who first wrote Sailor Earth for "Sailor Moon". This list could go on for pages though, couldn't it? And in the end, it would just ruin the fact that Sueric must get her credit.

In the words of Dane Cook: "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE HIGHLANDER!!"

I figured it all out, the situation that has occured and the real threat that poses in front of Sueric. You see, I think I'm well rounded in the art of horror/thriller movie watching and have read enough R.L. Stein books to figure out what was going to unfold after Inugirl used this plot idea.

See, it just starts with the borrowing of the plot idea. But what is going to happen is that somehow Inugirl will slowly take over Sueric's life. The next thing after the fic thing will be the theft of Sueric's boyfriend. After that Inugirl will start dressing and talking and looking like Sueric. Then one day, Inugirl will do off Sueric and become her.

It's a good thing Sueric realized this way in advance so that she can stop her right away! Heaven only knows what would have happened if Inugirl got to actually write this spin off fic. She might have gotten a true taste about what it felt like to have rapid fans that bow down to her every beck and call and really savor it enough to start plotting Sueric's murder (that conviently involves a clue knife and a white envelope).

...Heaven only knows there can only be one Sueric (for the safety of humanity!).

Hm, time to break out a new icon... dedicated to Sueric.

Appropriate nick over on her own forum. Site Fat Head indeed.

tl:dr is a fantastic summary of her ff.net profile as well, whereby she goes on about the same incident. And check out the self-autographed Inuyasha pic, complete with multiple links to... everywhere?

TMI cream was too rich in this one.

On a side note, I know many readers are wondering why they can't find the fic I mentioned at the end of Metamorphosis. I did upload the first chapter. I was also immediately FLAMED for writing another bleeping InuYasha/Kagome fic. I was flamed for writing a CANON pairing. In all the nonsense, something always gets lost. In this, it has been the desire to post stories. I cannot tell how many times I've come so close to yanking every bit of fanfiction I've ever posted because, damn it, it isn't enjoyable for me anymore. I've been threatened, harassed, stalked, dealt crap left and right over things that aren't even RELATED to my stories. When it gets to the point that my CHILDREN were threatened, that's when I drew the line. That is why Torrent and a few other stories were pulled off this site. I thought the bullcrap would end when I pulled my fictions off Adultfanfiction and Anime Spiral, but really it hasn't. To that end, I don't know if I'll ever, ever post any part of Desideratum anywhere, anytime. At this time, I'm leaning toward leaving fanfiction completely when the Purity stories are done. I won't stop writing. I love writing. But when it gets to the point of shedding tears before I upload a chapter, anticipating what ration of crap I'll get this time? When I cannot walk in and buy anime at the normal store because the last time I did that, I actually got 'recognized' and harrassed? Get a grip. This is only fanfiction, and I'm only human, and honestly, I've about had enough.

Wow, and she continues posting despite the safety of her CHILDREN. Have all 3 Stooges mini-orchestras been rented out yet? All I could find was a saxophone and no Kenny G. Or Weird Al Yankovic.

And because of boredom, checked out the MM.org games, like the 'brilliant''Compliments and Insults' thread. Major horsewaste.

Eg of heart-melting compliment: Sonic enjoys insulting me.....

Eg. of biting insult: Lady Macbeth resembles her namesake. Crazy murderous woman.

I think Inuyoukaimama is my new WANK!hero.

First and foremost, proper etiquette dictates that someone who is interested in an idea or plot line contact the author, personally and take the final word as law.

Yes, I agree. Completely. How IS Takahashi Rumiko-sama, by the way? I mean, the last time you spoke with her.

Second, plagarism is a serious offense. A very serious offense. There is no excuse, ever, to steal an idea, plot or story line from an author.

Oh, the hypocrisy, it tickles! Teehee.

Unless she had two profiles all along, that's not Inugirl. She's had that profile for months. Not ruling out the second profile, though; she rants far too much about her twin sister.
