Slashwank. Is there any other kind?
I was sitting on this one for a few days over at clairvoyant_wank, and as such it's a few days old. But the other non-Harmonian HP wank was boring because no Chinese fetuses were aborted so now you get some slashwank.

Halfway down the page at the 'CS Male Slash' thread at FAP, Emmylou makes a comment:

I really can't stand the slash I've seen (although I have less aversion to femme-slash) I've yet to see anything that addresses the fact that being gay is not 'normal'.

PLEASE don't take that the wrong way. By 'not normal', I don't mean 'unnatural' or 'disgusting', I mean that it's nowhere near as common as het and that it will make you stand out from the crowd and it will mean that people are going to be against you.

Megarouge, in an attempt to be worldly, open-minded, tolerant and liberal, proclaims:

What an incredibly ignorant thing to say. You must be a Christian.... You are a despicable girl and I pity anyone who has to deal with you on a regular basis.

And that's only a snippet of the fun. And Megarouge never stops deliberately breaking the rules. What a champ.

WAY TO GO DUDE A+++.

It makes me laugh how, at the end of allllll the posts concisely telling Megarouge the true meaning of the post, it takes a very verbose post by Emmylou to make her say, "Oooooooh! THAT'S what you meant."

Even though Emmylou has a point, using the word "normal" was just asking for trouble.

Oh, yes, bad, bad, bad word choice. But then, she was at pains to point out that "normal" wasn't in fact what she meant, so Megarouge should have been able to skip past the poor vocab issues and actually read for meaning.

The word "fact" was probably not the wisest one she coulda pulled out of her ass hat either. I do not think it means what s/he thinks it means.

"Even though Emmylou has a point..."

Wordy McWord. I once wrote a fan-letter to a slashwriter that included this line: "Thank you for remembering that women actually exist, that straights outnumber gays, and that a few straights are assholes about it." It's these little details that make the writer's world (including and especially the gay guys in it -- you know, the ones the slashwriter is so damned interested in?) more believable.

Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt you. You were saying?

"...using the word "normal" was just asking for trouble."

"Mundane" would have been a much better choice of words. Still, we all knew what she meant. But then again, we all weren't spoiling for a fight.

Actually, this Emmylou chick did kinda use the right word, since in a lot of societies, being gay is outside the social norm, and "normal" means "not deviating from a norm"--I mean, yeah, she would've been better off just pointing out the "outside of the social norm" thing, but I don't think it's that objectionable.

No, the part that gets me is that being gay isn't outside of every society's norms. Some societies expect young men to mess around with each other before they settle down and get married! To increase their battle-readiness by sharing special times with their brothers-in-arms! To maintain passionate, physical friendships outside of marriage! And so forth.

The British Wizarding World is its own made-up society, and we don't know all that much about its sexual mores. I say, there should be more fic about how very different those mores are from contemporary real-life Britain's, and how that screws with the muggle-borns' heads.

In a nutshell she said that slash (aka being Gay) is not normal.

There are so many, many things wrong with this statement that I don't even know where to begin. So I'll just focus on MegaRouge's (is that, like, Divine-sized box o' blush?) capitalisation of "gay". I'm glad to know I'm not just "gay", but Gay. Makes it that much more speshul.

Yeah, cos all those fics where Harry gets shit for banging arse or Draco gets disinherited for marrying Harry instead of Pansy or Remus/Sirius/Snape angsts and/or Tom kills things because of his emo over teh cock just don't exist. Rrright.
