In ds_discourse (a discussion community for Due south) aingeal8c makes a post about Benton Fraser's omgsotragic past.

While people don't have a problem with most of what she says, they object to her statement about season 3/4 not really being canon in her mind.

He lost his mother at the tender age of 6 (‘Victoria’s Secret’) and if you believe S3/4 canon (‘COTW’) then his mother was murdered by a close family friend (I still think illness or injury would have been more plausible but that’s just me).

People take the time to correct her on the meaning of canon. Several times.

She responses to most of those comments.

Some choice bits:

We have Stella/Ray Vecchio never marry because it isn't said point blank.


We have comparisons to Dallas and Star Trek Voyager

We have a denial of the joy that is RayK/Fraser Come on they ride off into the sunset together, how is their relationship not canon! Not that I have anything against RayV/Fraser. I'd just rather have Ray/Ray/Fraser

And what wank would be complete with out the apology/retraction post that isn't really one.

It's all pretty polite but this is as wanky as this fandom gets these days. Now I'm sure there were some prime wanks turning the days when Ray Vecchio was replaced by Ray Kowalski

Anyway, I hate loathe and despise most of season six and all of season seven of Buffy, but you'll never hear me say that it's not canonOMG!!11

Shit happened, I thought it sucked the paint off the walls -- it's still canon and in Buffy's world, it all happened, even the parts I hate the most.

Not canon because she hates it, my ass.

I hereby decree that most of season 6 of Buffy didn't happen. And some choice bits of 7 didn't, either.

Also, Faith came back much earlier in the season, and had sex with Willow, and Buffy, and Kennedy, and Tara, who wasn't really dead after all, and any other girl who was the least bit hot.

I love the 'slash isn't canon, you cannot say it has any basis in canon' argument when the writers and the actors have admitted to playing up the sexual chemistry between Fraser and Ray K.

Season 3 and 4 happened, lady. They aren't some magical AU ending or some such.

I may stick my fingers in my ears and sing, "la la la la la," when people mention Martin/Sam in Without a Trace, and I completely refuse to believe it happened, but at least I know I'm being delusional and that the relationship was, in fact, canon.

I don't know why it's so hard for people to like both Rays. They've both got a lot to offer, both in the show and in fanfiction. I love them both. Only not together. What? What's that you say? Possible Ray/Ray sexual tension in CoTW?

See, it's just that easy, and you don't have to hate anyone or pretend to be smarter than everybody else. Plus, delusion can lead to good AUs, as long as you admit you're being delusional and ignoring canon.

And here I thought I'd gotten off lightly since I came into the fandom AFTER the Ray/Ray Wars.

So does this mean I can deny Seasons 1 and 2 existed? Because I've never seen any of the episodes. It might just be a mass delusion.

Let's see...Paul Gross and Callum Keith Rennie showed up for work for months on end and they filmed a bunch of episodes for a show called Due South. When they were done, it was called season 3 and 4.

It exists, I have the DVDs. *g*

If I wanted to wish away something, I'd wave my magic wand and The Beauty and the Beast episodes, "Though Lovers Be Lost" would disappear. Talk about a fucking headache? Those two eps give me a migraine to end all migraines every time I watch it. But do I say it doesn't exist because I don't like it? Nope.

Newsflash: Catherine is murdered. Translation: She's deader than a doornail.

It happened. B&B season three exists. I cannot change it, no matter how much I want to. That's why it is called canon. If I want to work around her death, I write a freaking A/U story and make her not dead. See how easy that is?

Ahhh... DS wank. And me without a Vecchio icon :-(

Now, I like Aingeal, and I'd prefer that S3/4 ran differently (silly undercover plot -- oh,why? Couldn't Ray K. just transfer in?) and I far prefer Old Ray to New Ray... but this isn't the way to make friends. This ain't buddies.

And yes, back in the day, there was plenty of Ray vs.Ray sploogleness. I mostly avoided it, because it was, I dunno, a GODDAMN TV SHOW and all. But I do admit being more annoyed at Kowalski fans at the time because so many of them seemed to be 13 years old and all they could say was CKR was SO HOwT!1!!

Feh.
