Late Night Anchor Catfight! Roooowrrr!
Remember that wank about how OMG Conan deserved Emmys!! And we all sorta chuckled and thought, "Can't you just like them both?!" I, personally, thought "As if it even matters. Conan is probably just glad Leno didn't win or something!"

Errr, I guess not. This week's New York Magazine has a long profile about Conan that reveals he's not too pleased with The Daily Show.

"By the way, if you want to get on O’Brien’s good side, do not bring up Jon Stewart (who failed at his own late-night show in 1994), as it makes him bristle at the unfairness of Stewart’s comedic hegemony—he won two Emmys last week—for a far less complex, toilsome, and popular show, at 1.4 million viewers per night."

Jeff Ross, the show's executive producer, refers to TDS as "below the radar" and doesn't include on their board of who other late night shows have one.

Can't we all just get along?!

(feel free to delete if this isn't wanktastic enough, but it smacked of wank to me.)

I love both, but I'd pay to see a Conan/Jon snark off. :D

I misread that for a second as...er, something a lot more sexual after 'Conan/John'.

And, y'know, I'd pay to see that, too.

You mean an Iron Chef battle where they eat pudding off of each other?

No, although that would make things interesting for a Cannibalistic Cooking Challenge.

I would give a shit about either of them if I wasn't so busy watching Real Time every week.

Awwww, poor Conan! Did the big bad Jew get to you?

Gosh-DAMMIT people, it's the EMMYS... I thought comedians made FUN of award ceremonies, not fight over them!

That was my thought. I hope they aren't kidding themselves when they think TDS is just going to disappear. The show is popular because it's good T.V., period. It's clever, daring, and even educational. Just because ratings may be lower doesn't mean the show itself is lower quality - an especially skewed perspective when you consider the advantage Conan has on a basic cable station.

And TDS may be less watched, but it's on fucking Comedy Central.

Definitely. The whole article made him seem like a dick. I can't even put my finger on *one* thing it was that made him seem that way it was pretty much his entire attitude. The elitist humor, the attitude towards comedy clubs, the way he treated his writers, the whole fake self-deprecating act ....

am I the only one now thinking that the intro for his writing team in the Emmy clip wasn't a parody?

I missed the Emmys (Emmies??) - what was it?

I remember that as being one of the few entertaining bits in the whole show - what the writers sent in for their clips. Dang.

The writer list scrolled by quickly, and there was Conan As Godly Thing. It was quite funny.

But I prefer TDS, I'd rather laugh about politics than celebs

I figured there would be some backlash of jealousy following TDS' explosive popularity this year. I just didn't think it would be so entertaining.

...me too. They should be uniting!

Although honestly? I am more of a Daily Show fan. I mean, Conan CAN be funny, but mostly it's sorta like watching that really awkward kid in middle school try really, really hard to be popular. Hit-and-miss, and it just sorta makes you tense up and feel sorry for him.

Conan's act is mostly comprised of him shuddering hard enough to make his hair wiggle. The only thing that's made it good recently is the Walker: Texas Ranger lever.

I couldn't finish that article. It was so long. And ingratiating. If I want to read ten pages of someone trying to suck up to somebody nominally witty, I'll just go cruise the comments on Cassie Clair's journal.
