I thought it was funny....
Not huge by any means, but it amused me. Some people are a little sensitive over a certain death in OoTP.

VanityFair made a post about how the Harry/Draco ship is not something that can be dead/alive. Then someone cracked a joke that _dead person_/anyone is dead. I laughed. A lot of people didn't.

Go see how many ways people can say "That was not funny."

(Don't read this if you don't want to be spoiled about the death in Ootp.)

That wank is so not funny!

(I apologize, Voldemort made me do it.)

omg, liek, *boggle!*

The reaction to the death is amazing me to no end.

I just don't get it.

What did we know about this person up until OoTP that caused so many people to love this person so much???

Did I miss something in the first 4 books?

And yeah, we learned some interesting stuff in the 5th book which kinda makes me go grrr that the person is dead because I want to learn more about certain things, but! Still! Well, also let's consider that what we learned wasn't all that flattering, though definitely not OOC, in my opinion. So where is it coming from?

I am asking seriously here. Just don't get it.

I think the thing is that Book 5 took so long to come out that everyone made this picture in their head of how Dead Guy should be. He's beautiful and witty and protective and wonderful and as a god. They put him (as well as his "boyfriend") on a pedistal when really, he doesn't have much of a character in the books (and he was actually pretty darned mean in this one, I thought, but I'm a Snape fangirl and therefore biased), but the fanon conception is so strong that it actually started to overtake the canon.

Don't get me wrong, I love him, it's just I don't understand this mourning period thing.

If I can't mock a fictional character's death, man, whose CAN I mock?

Beats the hell out of me. That's why I was so sure that Sirius wasn't going to be the big casualty, because Rowling was going on and on about how much she loved the character she killed off. Prior to OotP, Sirius hadn't been in the books more than, what--20 pages? I didn't know enough about Canon!Sirius to have much of an opinion about him. (Fanon!Sirius is entirely different, but he's not dead, so it's irrelevant.)

Well, also let's consider that what we learned wasn't all that flattering, though definitely not OOC, in my opinion. So where is it coming from?

Speaking as a Snapeslasher, I just sort of shrugged, said, "Oh, well," and went back to squeeing over what I think points to some history of Snape/Lucius.

Personally I thought [info]vanityfair's assertion that JKR used OotP to purposefully spit in the face of Draco fans, and that if she continues to write Draco in the same way she's written in the first five books and doesn't fix his relationship with Harry she will be "wrong", a hell of a lot wankier than the whole "it's not funny" thread.

Well I have to disagree here. I don't think that is what she meant.

I think her annoyance comes from the fact that Draco and the Slytherin house students have tendency to get screwed over in the character development aspect.

Thing is she has a point, were getting close to the end of the series and I would like to see Draco have SOME depth. I'd like him and the Slytherin's to be more than just one-note villains.

And now I'm wanking. Damn you HP! You drag everyone into the wank.

Heh. I ship that character like there's no tomorrow, but I wasn't offended by the comment.

I didn't laugh, however. I didn't actually think it was funny. ^^;

I thought it was hilarious. ^_^ And thought I'd give that poor person's in-box some "NOT FUNNY!" relief, and tell them I'm amused.

Sure, I don't read the books, and I don't give a damn about the characters, but I've had characters killed off before in fandoms other than Marvel (where if you wait long enough, everybody comes back from the dead). Life goes on. They're fictional.

And I appreciate black(dark) humor.

Ah, but you forget the First Rule of Marvel Comics:
BUCKY STAYS DEAD.
That rule was broken once, and only once, in Deadpool #0, where Deadpool was fighting a bunch of clones of Marvel's loser-characters. Bucky lasted all of two panels.

Okay, now, I liked Dead Character quite a bit and I admit that I got a bit teary eyed when he was offed, but I don't think cracking jokes about said death can seriously be considered in bad taste. Some people seem to be going a bit overboard with the mourning period.

Ahh, Harry Potter fandom, how you need to stop being so sensitive.

That was mildly humorous to begin with, but you're missing the subtlety that makes this really truly hilarious - that everyone's favorite BNF Lois/Anna/Moony/whatever-she-is-this-time proclaimed it wasn't funny so everyone felt obligated to echo her.

Thank you. Quite wankful.
