Okay, let's see if my wankdar is tuned yet...

In his LiveJournal, Nothing Nice To Say creator Mitch Clem poses a question: "Is trying to make a return on a project that costs money really that horrible a thing to desire?" As it turns out, he's referring to this post from the [info]stencil_swap community. Said post is of a stencil to allow one to bootleg the new (and as yet unreleased) Nothing Nice To Say shirt. Glorious. There are a number of "cut, please" and "freakin' thief" comments and even a few "thanks!" comments, plus Mitch himself shows up.

That's a bit annoying. Considering that I make tee shirts for people myself for a fairly low price, I definitely can relate to his getting upset that he's doing it because it's helping pay the bills for running his comic. Mine only helps pay for the printing paper and buying the tee shirts.

SO.

People. Are. Stupid. -_-;

Uhm, did people miss the point where the original OP said he was a motherfucker? Cause obviously if he calls himself one, calling him a fucker over and over will do such damage to his self-esteem. Really.

That said, bootlegging is stupid. Not only do you get a half-assed shirt, but everyone else that sees you wearing it will usually be smart enough to buy the better version.

I have no problem with making my own t-shirts for myself to wear and not sell, however I dispise people who sell work, for profit or no, using other people's designs without permission. Besides, the stencil sucks. Anti-aliasing, dickweed.

Nearly entirely unrelated to the discussion at hand, I'll just take a moment to poke at the idea presented here that art done by hand is more legitimate than art that relies on Photoshop.

. . . yeah. 'Cause it's not about how the final product looks or anything--nah, it's all about doing things in a Legitimate manner, and staying up 'til the wee hours to do so.

I kind of have to wonder if this is related to the Tortured Soul of an Artist or anything.

the Tortured Soul of an Artist or anything.

I keep one in a crystal on my desk and make it watch as I make icons in MS Paint.

I kept reading your icon as "Orly" and going, "Isn't the correct way of spellig it Orli?" and then I realised...

It's not discussing Orlando Bloom.

... I am such a Tolkien geek. I now have seen the movies so many times that I am seeing everything as LotR.

*wince* Still a hilarious icon.

Maybe I'm not "punk" enough, or I don't have enough of a Tortured Soul, but I find Questionable Content fucking hilarious, and Nothing Nice about as funny as getting a flaming oil enema. (Then again, the flaming oil enema might make anybody watching from a distance laugh)

All of those people who are bitching that you can't buy clothes for less than $5 don't know how to shop. There is this nifty little thing called a thrift store...

Thrift stores? Shit, just hit the big dealers during seasonal clearance sales. You'll pick up half a wardrobe for less than $100. It's a college student's dream.

Not in my size, you won't. Big dealers discriminate against men's Small. The only way you get that shit is if you hit the racks at the beginning of the season and pay twice the price. D:

True, true. It works that way, as well, if you're at a popular size (which I and the rest of American women apparently are). Still, the point stands that your average individual can find deals almost anywhere if they search properly.

That is my boyfriends problem. He learned to buy girls jeans, but that doesn't work with the shirts because they're...mid-riffy.

Exactly. Just a little bit of planning and craftiness can get you tons of nice clothes for cheap...

Yet if you live near the right thriftstore, you can pick up your entire wardrobe for under $100. I adore thrifting. Seriously, the high point of my 2+ years of college? Next week they're (finally) opening a Salvation Army here. I now have a place to blow my paycheck every week.

I'm not saying thrifting is bad at all. ^^;; If I lived near a decent one that had more in my size, I'd visit it more often. But even going to big dealers, you can get decent deals as long as you plan correctly.

Can we implement an asshole tax? Everytime you're responsible for wank showing up here, you owe us pr0n, or something like that.

Or money. Money works too.

I enjoy the girlfriend showing up and wanking at them about her boyfriend doing by hand art rather than the more dubious art of other places.

I don't know why.

I think it's funny that she's putting down other webcomics.
