the world is a very sad place
A little bit of an old wank, but people still seem to be posting there. It's on the imdb boards (obviously), at the page on the new movie Brokeback Mountain. It's based on the short story by Annie Prlkdfoirxxcjlsdsomethingortheother, which is essentially about two gay cowboys. So anyway, the poster says that he will be bringing peashooters to the movie for all the straight guys that will be going there and making stupid comments in the middle. A few people agree with the sentiment, but others talk of 'gays not being respectful towards straights', 'fat black women who can eat people', and Nazis and so on.

Before its December release, BBM will need more exposure to the non-gay public, for two reasons - first, to gin up interest among the right kind of straight crowd, and second, to give fair warning to the wrong kind of straight crowd. I'm hoping that, by the time I see BBM, there will be a good sized audience, but with few people who don't know what to expect. I DO NOT look forward to hearing Joe Straightguy sitting two seats in front of me asserting his I'm-No-Fag bona fides to his date or his buds every time Ledger & Gyllenhaal are on screen, and my fear is that there will be plenty of these Clueless Wonders wandering into the BBM showings ("Hey, that looks cool, looks like a western!").
Hopefully the BBM trailer will at least be played in the theaters with "Pride & Prejudice" and "The Ice Harvest". Both (like BBM) are Focus productions, and both are scheduled for November releases. "Pride & Prejudice" would likely to reach the right kind of straight crowd, while "The Ice Harvest" might also warn Joe Straightguy about Brokeback Mountain. Universal (the parent to to Focus) would be wise to play the BBM trailer before all their releases, for BOTH the reason I've stated, but I suppose they won't (after all, Joe Straightguy's money is as good as mine).
In any event, when I go to see BBM, I'm bringing my peashooter.

'The world is a very sad place. Many people don't want to learn. Many don't care. It's the world we live in. All we can do is surround ourselves with people who believe what we believe, and hope someday we can all agree on something.'
(Cue violins?)

'It's funny how all you gays want us to respect you, but you won't respect us. I read one gay's post on here going on how all gays are just promoting peace and understand, yet you all talk like every straight person out there is backward and narrow minded. Just because we don't accept gays doesn't make us narrow minded or dumb. Makes us strong in our beliefs.'
(CONSTANT VIGILANCE!)
'Blah, blah blah. Keep going with your rant. Keep playing the victim. Gays like to compare themselves to Jews and blacks. Stop comparing gays to what people have gone through in history. You make yourself look like a moron, because no matter what you think gay people seem to go through, it's nothing to what people have gone through in the past. And being strong minded doesn't make it bad, like all those bad examples you brought up. If good people didn't have strong beliefs then we would be over run by people with wacked out beliefs.
You make being gay such a heroic thing or you are this victim in society, like you are trying to bring peace and understanding to the world. What a joke.'

'The only one who looks like a moron is you, not only because you can't think for yourself or know "thy enemy" but because you also have one of the worst commands of the English language I've ever seen.'
(I love when people say this, because more often than not, they end up making incredible spelling and grammar mistakes and look like morons as well. Fun for all.)
'I'm always amazed at how much time heterosexuals spend thinking about homos. You've thought about it twice already today, probably more. You've gotten on the computer twice (maybe more) to post about gay people. And I'm the one who should think differently? Perhaps if you concentrated more on your heterosexuality instead of other people's homosexuality, you might not need to come onto a *gay* board to validate it. You might actually get some heterosexual loving.'
(The usual attacks on 'you clearly have no sexual life', we see.)

'Anyway, I'm pressing the "Ignore this User" button on you... NOW!
HA! TOO LATE! I GOT YOU FIRST! NYEAH, NYEAH-NYEAH, NYEAH-NYEAH, NYEAH! ... NYEAH, NYEAH-NYEAH, NYEAH-NYEAH, NYEAH!'
(Um. :|)

'I'd just randomly yell "shut the *beep* up!" and then when everyone turned around to look at me I'd say "just practicing."'

...and others. Oh, also there's 'as a gay man, I know what I'm talking about, but I end up looking like an idiot anyway', and RANDOM caps EXPLOITATION. Personally, nothing annoys me more than people who go '*beep*' or use some other way to cover up the fact that they are swearing. Makes me want to reply to posts like that with nothing more than the word 'fuck' twenty times. :| Yes, I'm very mature, why do you ask? Of course, then again, imdb boards may have disabled swearing, and I'm just stupid.
ETA: On an unrelated note (in terms of the wank), I yousentit a copy of the short story for a friend, and figured that if anyone here wanted to read it...the people up here supporting it look like idiots, but I still rather like the story, *grins*. Am not exactly sure if this is allowed, and will obviously take it down if people object.
