LOST Wank
Last's night episode of LOST introduced us to a few new characters.

One of them, Ana-Lucia, immedietly comes off as a bitch, beating and abusing on Sawyer. The attitude gets on a lot of people's nerves and a creative nickname, Mana-Lucia, is born. But some people take it ever farther, calling her a 'tranny'. (related threads have been deleted.)

This upsets [info]fruitynutcake, who posts in the community with a question: "Why Tranny? Seriously, STFU."

Most people agree. Some people give reasons for the nickname, others try to defend it.

[Unknown LJ tag] throws his hands in the air and claims it's a fictional character!. Also, that slurs are not offensive"

The main insulter here, [info]goddessmadeo, shows up and tries to explain her side.
No one listens.


Small, contained, but enough on it's own.

I missed Lost last night and wasn't able to watch it until today, so I haven't checked out the thread yet. (I was actually just heading over to lost_tv when I found it over here on f_w.) How bad is it?

Also, damn, I really need to make a Sawyer/Ana-Lucia icon. It would be wank appropriate, too!

Oh yes she does. I kind of like it, too. After her "Exodus, Part I" introduction, it wouldn't feel right for Ana-Lucia to be someone normal and stable. It fits, somehow, for her to be...erm...I'm not sure of the word I'm looking for here.

I'm only on the periphery of the fandom (even though I love the show), but I've seen an awful lot of people on various boards assume that Shaft = Bernard. I'm just waiting for the inevitable wanksplosion now that we know Rose's husband is white.

There was a few of then, actually. They were just really tiny and people going OMG WE KNOW ALREADY THAT THE ACTOR IS WHITE, STOP ASSUMING.

Haha, I admit, I totally thought that guy was Bernard for a while. And I was like "Whoa, go Rose!"

But then they introduced the real Bernarnd, and I was still like "Dude, go Rose!" because Bernard is awesome.

Oh, please. Since when does beating up Sawyer automatically make someone a bitch?

I mean, I love the guy, but come on. He could seriously use a good ass-whupping on a regular basis. And if the previews are any indication, the man himself agrees with me.

Feh. I'd give more credit to all of the Ana-Lucia hate if it hadn't been going on since she showed up for five minutes in "Exodus, Part I". I swear that half of those that hate her have made up their minds and will not change it no matter what.

Personally, I like Ana-Lucia. Last night's episode gave us some insight why she's a bitch and a total dictator. Yeah, the Sawyer beating's rough, but...

a.) He'll survive. When a man has bamboo shoots shoved under his fingers nails, gets stabbed in the arm, gets shot in the other arm, but still has enough mobility to hold a rock, I don't think Ana-Lucia's going to kill him.

and...

b.) She so totally wants him.

Ehhhh, I was biased against Ana-Lucia before the second season even started, because every time I opened up a fall TV preview for Lost, she was THERE. It just irked me that she was getting all these cover shots when we have regular cast members that don't get enough love SUN AND JIN.
