Fanficrants feeds a troll...what else is new?
A brand-spankin' new user who calls herself Missey3455 posts to Fanficrants about how MEAN people are and how she just wants reviews for her "Arthur" fanfiction.

The usual crowd at fanficrants screams "troll" but Missey is persistent in her replies.

Then it comes out that Missey believes Arthur talks to her.

Ah...fanficrants. You bring the wank and the weird.

I have to wonder if maybe she is.. er, what's the politically correct term nowadays? Retarded sounds mean when the person actually is, y'know, retarded, but. Anyway, on a messageboard I used to go to there was a girl sort of like this that wrote lots of self-insertion fic about that particular fandom. Bad insertion fic. Really bad. Turned out that not only was she eighteen, but she was autistic/and/or something else, I forget what. A really nice kid, but until it was discovered that she had a mental issue, everyone thought she was just weird and some people were kind of mean to her (I always just figured that english wasn't her first language). I have to wonder if this girl is the same. I mean, she's writing Arthur fanfic.

Or maybe it's just a really dedicated troll. Who knows on the internet?

I'd have to agree that she might be developmentally disabled. She's 16 years old, but she's in the ninth grade in a vocational technical school. And she seems slow to catch on to some of the harsher comments. If it's all a joke, it's a pretty lame one and hardly seems worth the effort. I'm wondering if some real life person (online or offline) is egging her on, thus explaining some of the sexual terms she keeps dropping in her story.

I don't know what's stupider; the supposed "troll", or the all of the comments simply declaring that the poster is a troll. It's like an episode of Teletubbies, where they repeat everything over and over.

And at least Teletubbies has that "It makes sense when you're stoned" vibe going for it...

I just want to know why there's no love for the *other* Arthur, the monkey who has been around much longer than the aarvark that doesn't even look like an aardvark. Arthur the monkey once tried to make cookies but he confused the salt and the sugar and they wound up having to be christmas ornaments because they were too hard.

I'm sure there's a witty turn of phrase that encapsulates the idea of the only argument that some of the members on fanficrants can win is with a developmentally disabled individual, but I'm too busy being horrified to think of something.

The attitude taken is just pathetic, seriously. If the person is obviously disabled, as this person is (come on, full name, birthdate, school? That should have been a really big clue), being snarky is not appropriate. There is a very good reason why being snarky in the real world (you know, the one without monitors) doesn't work -- because it's downright offensive to those who understand what you're saying.

Don't get me started on how downright tacky it is to do it with someone who literally doesn't understand.

Thanks, fanficrants, for shattering my faith in humanity again. A year of law school couldn't have done it, a year of psych couldn't have done it, but ten minutes of reading this sure did.
