VG Cats and the Philosopher's Wank
So, Scott Randsome of VGCats posts a new comic that is, basically, a Harry Potter/Fullmetal Alchemist crossover, in which Harry calls Ed Oedipus. All is well on the VGCats Livejournal feed until tenshihan shows up and says, "and none of you morons even know what Oedipus means. Fuck all you ignorant bastards. That was the best rip in the whole comic."

Wank about Oedipus, Google, grammar, and the "bait and switch" of internet insults (I don't even know) ensues.

God, what a douche. I mean, knowing Greek mythology doesn't automatically make you better than someone else. The fact that those of us who do know it are better than those who don't is completely coincidental.

...Cough.

But honestly, he may know who Oedipus is, but I don't think he knows what an Oedipus complex is.

Wait, how can you grow up not knowing what both are? Making Oedipus allusions is a fundamental part of the evolution of "your mom" jokes through highschool!

...

Or were my friends and I just incredibly geeky?

Knowing both is very important to appreciate the masterpiece of comic literature that is Robertson Davies' "Leaven of Malice."

One of my favourite scenes of all times has to be when the university pyschological counciller tells the Classics professor he has a bit of an Oedipus complex.

After reading that comic, I thought wank would most likely emerge as a result of some HP fen whining over the improper term of "Philosopher's Stone." Nice to be wrong for once. So hurray for intellectual pretentiousness!

Am I the only one of the opinion Ed could kick Harry Potter's arse? Just wondering.

Provided Hermione wasn't there to come up with a brilliant plan to save his sorry ass (in a completely platonic way thankyouverymuch) Ed would completely destroy Harry.

Actually, the British release of the first HP book did call it the Philosopher's Stone.

Ed could probably kick You-Know-Who's ass too.

I can see him in the HP-verse. "A scar that hurts? Ha! My arm and leg don't weep for you!"

Nope. Going into a completely geeky moment, Ed has alchemy, but he also knows how to fight physically. Harry only has sorcery.

The bigger loser is not a guy who doesn't know what the Oedipus complex is; it is a guy who trolls the internets randomly entering lengthy flamewars solely to satisfy his sense of superiority over people who don't know what the Oedipus complex is. wtg guy lol victory 4 higher education

it wasn't even a funny joke

Actually, I think they all lose at "teh IntERnNETZ" for even bothering to validate [info]tenshihan's grasping need for superiority. A total lack of knowledge regarding basic grammatical structure automatically disqualifies you from any sort of intellectuals' circle (except in rare cases).

The only winner is VGC, who charms my little black heart with his Oedipus reference.

*ponders* Find it amusing that, that comic got onto my lj friends list & the message board I run as being purely awesome, and that on the lj/in the chat, people commented that they didn't get every single joke on the site, but they still really enjoyed it.

Bah. I studied Oedipus as part of my history course and I thought that comic was awesome.

So what?

That guy is still an arsehole.

It's amazing how he can go on and on about Oedipus in mythology, and not truly explaining Oedipus' complex. Stupid know-it-alls that don't know nothing.

But offtopic. The best part is the comic; it just pwned me. The main characters of my two wankier fandoms, kicking each others' butt. So beautiful I could cry of joy. I ignore the bubble text, and imagien they're saying "MY FANDOM IS WANKIER AND CRAZIER THAN YOURS, HOR!" It's the battle of the batshit fandoms.
