RPS Wank: Destroying my hope for humanity, one idiot at a time.
This is an entry in Leadensky's LJ. And lo, it is a wanky entry. Leadensky felt the need to share hir views regarding RPS with the world. Ze doesn't like RPS, oh no precious, though it should be noted that ze has no such qualms regarding FPS/FPF.

"Granted, I don't have the raving frothing fits over it that I used to, when I was starting out in TXF and people (granted, very immature people) were posting non-fictional desires for DD to break up with Tea so he could marry GA. But I'm still not happy about it, and, in fact, mighty displeased that RPS even exists.

(I'm going to use "RPS" to include non-satire made-up stories about real people, be the stories het, slash or gen, and include both pop culture people and actor people. This is one of those places where slash or het, I really don't give a care, it's still wrong.)

I'm still on the fence about RPS being actually fanfiction. This is a problem I don't have with other forms of fandom-originating story-telling. Snarry (Snape/Harry 'shipping) *is* fanfic. It's also porn, and pedophiliac porn, but it's those things *and* fanfic. Ditto smutty "Roh'cest" and CSI. Both embrace and celebrate things I don't accept or find ethically acceptable in real life, but still, they're fiction. The stories are about made up people.

...RPS - because it uses real people - can not be separated from real life. Real people = real life.
...One last thing - on the whole "going to hell for writing [X]". In my book, it's totally not my call. Above, as they say, my pay grade.

So, it's entirely possible that I'm misinterpreting, but the tone of the entry appears to imply that while chanslash/pedophiliafic/twincest in HP etc. are morally wrong, there is something... Extra-loathesome about RPS/RPF. I don't want to answer one moral judgement with another. I'm just here for the drinks, the boobies, and of course, the massive allburning war that inevitably will erupt in comments.
The preceding link represents Round One of this RPS Argument. A couple of our own- [info]shoiryu and [info]eljuno- step in with what looks to me like a relatively amiable response to an inflammatory subject. The OP then makes the mistake of invoking Fandom_Wank- always happy to oblige, by the way- and informs [info]eljuno that he can 'tell his buds' that 'this LJ is *NOT* going to become a battleground'.

Little bit too late, there. The rest of that thread continues civilly enough, which may have something to do with people going to sleep and waking up with less vitriol. Subsequent threads, however, show that the orouboros is far from finished.

Here, se_parsons brings up the tinhats as exemplars of the wrongness of RPS.

And here, purplepopple wants Shoiryu to name names!

In this thread, sa_parsons continues her discussion.

This goes on and on. For twoish pages of comments. People come and go, and some are more coherent and some are less. There are obligatory anonymice, and some gratuitous mudslinging.

I leave the rest, gentle readers, to you.
