omg! Why the heck cant you all realize that Yu-Gi-Oh is a copy off of Pokemon! Why the heck would you go after a copy and not even look at the original! Try as u might to say its not a copy but i doubt it would had came out if pokemon hadnt. Not to mention the show is a pretty bad copy of pokemon to. All they do in the show is duel and fight some evil weirdo with some pieces of paperboard cheap monster cards. at least pokemon is more realistic, they are like animals. But yugioh monsters are in cards and everyone goes around wasting their time playing a pointless kiddy card game. How the heck can a card depend on the future of the world? C'mon now! Even the Smurfs makes more since this crap. I dont care if you talk about me or say something negative, thatll be my punishment for telling the truth i guess. Oh, and, most of yugioh fans were pokemon fans, hmmm i wonder why!

So, let me get this straight. Because they both summon monsters, they're copies of each other??!?!?! And I thought the accusations of Duel Masters being a knock off of Yu-Gi-Oh was bad.

158 posts and counting...

Oh, and I was never a Pokemon fan.

To be honest I thought it was a copy of Pokemon too, however I never watched any of them so I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Really annoys me when people do stuff like that...

There are definate similarities in that kind of genre and some of them are Pokemon clones, but it's pretty stupid to claim that every one of them is.

Besides, it's not like Pokemon's even the first game of the type...

Like the Pokemon TCG?

As someone who hates both shows, I can safely assure everyone that they are totally different.

Pokemon is about a kid who spends every waking moment of his life wandering through a forest capturing small animals and making them fight.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is about a kid who spends every waking moment sitting on his ass playing a card game. Also, Egyptian stuff something something.

Hopefully this should help smooth relations between these two great fandoms.

I just wanna tell this story.

So, I'm watching The Exorcism of Emily Rose. They make a big deal about The Witching Hour, 3 a.m. So Witching Hour this and Witching Hour that, and all I can think of is, "hey, that's when Duel Masters comes on."

Sorry, that's my lame Duel Masters story.

Because no anime has EVER been pretty much a direct copy of another, earlier anime in the hopes of cashing in on the first one's success. That's why there was only ever ONE robot show in the history of Japanese animation. ALSO: only one magical girl anime, only one family sitcom anime, and only one sea-going vessel converted into a spaceship anime. The rest are figments of your imagination. Or Yoshinabu Nishizaki's imagination; that guy did take a lot of drugs.

Ok, yay for bugmenot.com, this OT gem had me in stitches.

anagnostopoulos_demetrios: What's FLCL, you ask? I'll tell you, but don't say I didn't warn you.

It's this terribly evil show, so it's only appropriate that I nicknamed it "the Devil and the Enemy". But anyway, it's about this weird kid living in a fictional Japanese town, which is being taken over by a power plant that looks like a giant clothing iron. And here's where the evil part happens: some woman riding a Vespa motorbike does to the boy what appears to be murder, but it's actually putting a curse on him that makes giant robots come out of his head. Chaos and mayhem ensue for the rest of the series.

I hate this show. Not only is it bizarre and chaotic, but my love of children (I hope to be a father someday) prevents me from liking it on moral grounds. Many times when I remember it in the form of a bad memory, I say to myself, "No child should ever be cursed like that". After the two times I watched it, I wished I could go to the Undying Lands like the Elven people did in The Lord of the Rings.

Um, ok...

As someone that who vaguely liked both, I'd like to say that there are some similarities. But... Dude, over than the whole overcommericalised and over hyped nature, they both have very different story lines, other than the fact that they focus on a angsty pre-teen.

Meh. And I've never heard anyone claim that Pokemon's sub version was worth watching, like I have with yugioh.

But what an irritating little shit~

omg! Why the heck cant you all realize that Yu-Gi-Oh is a copy off of Pokemon!

Besides maybe the card game style of fighting, I find Pokemon's basic plot to be more like One Piece's or Naruto's. Some kid wants to be the greatest Pokemon Trainer/Pirate King/Hokage ever so he goes on an adventure to make his dream come true. He makes friends along the way and learns lessons like friendship while having lots and lots of battles.

Someone was telling me that YGO got started because Japan wanted to have a TCG like Magic the Gathering. Or at least the card bits of it. The early YGO stuff is kind of messy, with all the shadow games and all.

And besides, Pokemon is all aboutthe IVs and the DVs now anyway. ;)

Because if it involves monsters and fighting, it's automatically a Pokemon ripoff. Right. Though I don't see how being similar automatically makes whatever came second crap, anyway. The Digimon anime came after the Pokemon one, but I think Digimon's the better show, so who cares if there are similarities here and there? (Though personally, I watch Yugioh for the crack. And the Theme Parks of Death. And GX, because it's weird and silly and makes me smile.)

Okay kid, you get points for noting that it was pokemon that opened the gates for other toy-shows to enter the US.

Ironically, you fail for not realizing that pokemon is not the first of the 'monster' genre (despite how popular it was), nor is YGO the first of the 'bizarre gaming' genre. Sorry.

...you know, the fact that it's the glorified-toy-commercial anime that have gotten a foothold among American children disturbs me vaguely. Really vaguely.
