For those of you who don't have accounts or have the System journal friended, the System has asked that we direct you an Important Announcement about Copyright in which there is Much Snarkiness and Piglet Gets Roasted. Comments will be left on here if you wish to discuss the issue. Robin has asked, however, that we emphasize that there will be no direct quotes from the complainant mentioned until such time as the matter is completely resolved. So don't bother asking.

I'm curious about a few things.

First, why respond to this threat, but not the other equally frivolous ones the JF has received before? Did Marla Reed actually get a real life lawyer to file an honest-to-goodness lawsuit?

Secondly, why take down the few setences Marla compalined about if the suit is frivolous? Is it because of the DMCA's "Safe Harbor" provision?

... So somebody's threatening to take JF to court because a few lines from a fanfiction, which in and of itself is copyright infringement, were posted, and that VIOLATES MEH KOPEERITE? And she's actually -going through- with this threat despite the fact that it should be blatantly obvious that she has no fucking chance?

Is she just desperate, or is she really so DENSE that she doesn't realize she's got no case at all?

I never thought I'd live to see the day when someone actually went through with their threats to get a lawyer instead of just being satisfied by sending a poorly-written threat from a Yahoo or Hotmail address...
