I smell potential wankery in the future...
Don't take your eyes off the HP fandom, folks. Rowling just threw gasoline on the fire brought on by [censored!]'s Death...

Harry Potter may not survive adolescence, says Rowling

Asked about the possibility of an adult Harry Potter starring in future works, Joanne Kathleen Rowling warned thousands of schoolchildren of the eventuality most feared by the books' publishers: the boy might die.

Ah, authors can be so cruel when they tease... ::beams:: This amuses me.

Heh, wouldn't it be amusing, if we get to the 7th book and she kills Harry off and lets Voldie win and take over the world?

I'm laughing so hard it hurts. XD

If that's from the recent Q&A she did, she also warned fans that they were getting to fond of Draco and said something about dark forces rising, or some such.

To me this means either Draco bites it or he goes evil.

And we thought the hair wringing over the death in OoTP was bad...

Hoo boy, we ain't seen nuthin' yet if Draco dies.

It would make my cold, black heart leap with joy if Draco died a villain's death in the next two books.

That, and it would cause absolute chaos in HP fandom. :>

Speak it, sister!

The wailing and gnashing of teeth throughout the fandom if the little Malfoy git should bite it warm the cockles of my cold, cold heart.

And possibly win me $20.

Ooh yes, something to keep an eye on.

The thing is, JK Rowling *regularly* jokes about killing off Harry when fans ask her questions, but no one ever took her seriously (heh) before. Now that most some crazy HP fans think she's a murderer, it'll be somuchfun to see how they react.

See, that's the thing that's struck me. She guards her plot points so closely, I don't think she would ever get close to what happens at the end of the books. I don't think Harry's going to be in any fit state to "have another series" but I doubt he'll die. She just wouldn't joke about it like that if he did.

I heard about that the other day. It makes me giggle. Personally i think it'd be neat if Harry died at the end of book 7. The hero making the ultimate sacrifice and all...leaving readers very sad but swelling with pride that Harry gave his life to save everyone else. It'd be a smart move.

The books seem to be getting progressively darker. Who knows, by book 7 it may be too disturbing for some kids to read. Some parents are already kerfluffling over how dark book 5 was.

Personally, next book i'd like to see teenage hormones running wild. Hermione and Ron get it on! Harry gets jealous! Harry and Hermione get it on! Come on, we need a good old fashioned love triangle.

Yeah, and I WANNA WATCH. Are there links available? I'm seriously just waiting for the Christian right to get their knickers all atwist over Harry v. Ashcroft Umbridge.

Replace "love triangle" with "threesome" and I'm all over that shit.

Of course, then you'll have kids committing suicide, and the Christian Right will claim that "It's all Harry Potter's fault! Again! No! Really!"

She's been saying it for ages, whenever someone asks her what will happen to Harry et al once they finish Hogwarts. Thing is, the end of OotP pretty much rules the possibility of Harry's death out unless she's planning to let the Dark side win, which seems inconceivable given the overall tone of the books thus far.

I vote for Harry getting killed off by the dark side (tm), then Neville takes up his father's sword the cause and destroys evil. That would be an ending.

But then the wacky Sirius Black fans/conspiracy theorists will shout at JKR because Harry didn't die a "heros" death and it was meaningless and generally lacking bravado.

And then we can all wish they'd just shut up already again.

There's actually a precedent in British children's literature. In The Last Battle, the seventh and last book of C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, almost everybody dies.

I don't read the books, but when C.S. Lewis was brought up, I couldn't help but notice the similarity in the number of books for starters -- there's supposed to be seven, ne? ::snickers::

While I'm familiar with Lewis' stuff, I'm not with Rowling's. Someone who knows both would prolly be a better choice to show any other possible parallels.

I dunno, I think some people have this view of her that she actually lives the way she has the magic-folk living in her books, going about her day tra-la-la, wearing robes and waving a wand...
... Probably spends most of her day abusing the help staff. "Get me bloody steak and kidney pie, you git, or I'll give you the sack!" XD
